I was surprised to see water in the creek. We had an atmospheric river the previous week, and there was snow on the hills.

The creek was challenging to photograph; it was overgrown and muddy. I had to do some work post-processing to make it stand out even a little.

Just chilling on an easy Sunday morning.

I was down in Mojave last week. I could only go out and photograph one day and have wanted to photograph around Oak Creek for a while. Oak Creek is a back road between Mojave and Tehachapi. It goes through the wind farms. As you drive up it, the vegetation changes as the altitude increases.

I had another shot without motion blur on the windmills, but I decided on this one.

Joe's Tavern In Chelsea has not been open in over 20 years but we love that this #vintage #neonsign has survived. It is surprising because this part of western Chelsea near the High Line has become very gentrified and many old buildings like this one have met the wrecking ball to become expensive glass condos. Photofriends, I have a mystery I need help solving. The top of the powerline is in focus, and the lower part and the trees behind it are soft. The camera was set to ISO 200, F 22, and the shutter speed was 1/100. I am trying to understand why parts of this are out of focus.

The lens is a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM. It's Canon's middle-of-the-road 50mm lens. It's a handheld shot, but that shouldn't matter at 1/100.

Hastings having transitioned the three D’s to digging-in dynamics – that lonely reedy-whine tells – upon cresting at Hanson two poles past, now just west of Almira occupying Starkel’s dust-parched dirt road in a near 1.3% slope sloping down to 1.5%. 8,000 tons bunched: fifty-five filled steel railed wagons plus two TILX tanks black bringing up the rear empty, flashing Fred hanging, pushing. ¶ This annum’s infernos west belch rising smog high up, blotting out – in seconds – a blood-red black hole sun sinking. ¶ Foreground, stubbled. Thickened whisker-waves of amber shaven combine-close attests harvest is in highest gear, confirmed by that permeating, so distinctive powdery, wheat-sweet harvest-time odor commingling this pungent scent of scorched earth, with exhausted, burnt diesel-heated fumes whirling grit altogether swirl, assailing olfactories and searing every eye including Heaven’s all-seeing eye. Things that make you go Hmmmm. While the billboard is supposed to make you laugh regardless of your position on the matter, the non-sequitur image of immiscible activities, albeit one being recreational, the other occupational, is a visual metaphor of "oil and water don't mix." BTW, no matter the quality, it's probably your face as the Trainmaster says "YOU'RE FIRED!" when you turn up dirty. No laughing matter.

Just outside Payson in northeast Arizona, travelers encounter this sign for Pete's Place Cabaret, a topless establishment with a stockyard theme. Yeah, that's right -- the entrances to the parking lot feature cattle grates, too. Depending on who you believe, the property used to be a stockyard, a butcher shop or a steakhouse restaurant. Unfortunately -- or fortunately, as the case may be -- Pete's was closed the day I drove by. But check out the reviews on Yelp for some entertaining reading.

This little guy stood watch waiting for me to go back inside thinking he could raid my bird feeders. Little did he know I planned to sit a while and do some reading and enjoy another cup of coffee (or two). He finally retreated. Me: 1 Squirrel: 0

Celestial leavings of light pastel a watercolored eve’ as the Eastern Washington Gateway crew with 328 out front is takin’ ‘em out – again. Into last light. Onward towards Hite and west while most others have turned off their screen and the lights at the office: gone home. Left the grind behind. For tomorrow. Now in their sweetheart's and li’l’uns arms. Or not. Surely they’ve supped and melted into the lazy-chair staring shut-eyed – into another screen. This evening’s EWG crew will be busy bringing their train through the pitch of night right into nach mitternacht where a wind storm awaits them, blowing at empty grade crossings, waking the light sleeper as they bang out their switchlist here and there before tying their La Grange workhorse down to head home themselves while most others have begun to stir for another staring shut-eyed cubicle day… (© 27Apr18)

The 1930s ‪#‎vintage‬ ‪#‎diner‬ was known for its ‪#‎burgers‬, ‪#‎fries‬ and#milkshakes and was owned by Sunny Sharma. The TV show "Friends" used Moondance as the diner where the character Monica, played by Courtney Cox worked. Moondance Diner was also used by the film "Spider-Man" as the place where Mary Jane Watson played by Kirsten Dunst was employed. Luckily the diner was saved from demolition and purchased for $7,500 by Vince and Cheryl Pierce, who moved the structure by flat-bed truck to LaBarge, Wyoming at a cost of $40,000. After some much needed repairs, they reopened the diner in Wyoming in 2008 where it remained in operation until 2012. We especially loved the diner's rotating moon ‪#‎sign‬ and the sparkling ‪#‎letters‬ spelling "Moondance" in an interesting ‪#‎font‬.
