My wife swears by her iPod Mini, but I can't live without my MD. I have 2 words for all you iPod lovers. Battery. Life. I get around 20 hours on one, count 'em, ONE AA battery. With the iPod, you can't even fly across the country on a full charge. So HA!!

A custom mod of an Apple iPod Nano 1st Gen. The design is inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The "eye-Pod" can be worn on the wrist via the leather cuff, or placed on it's custom Victrola base. All functionality of the iPod remain intact an a hidden USB cord retracts from the base to either a wall charger or your computer. There are hidden pressure plates that when touched send a strobing "static charge" into the quartz crystals on either side of the magnified veiwing portal. Music can be heard either through the Victrola horn or though a portable personal hearing apparatus (in progress).

This piece will be featured at the Steampunk Bizarre Gallery show.

It turns out the width of a double pack of Juicy Fruit is the exact same as an iPod Nano. And the UPC code is in the perfect position for the screen.

The best part about using gum wrappers is that they have foil in them so they are easy to wrap with, and hold a shape (such as the raised controls on the Shuffle) and the are sealed using wax (for freshness), which makes the material very weather proof. Vancouver weather proof. This is very important.

You can't see it, but I used a bit of Fed Ex waybill sleeve to cover the hole for the screen, keeping it all sealed off from the elements.
