This year in Shibuya, Tokyo, home of the trendiest of fashions and the trendiest of youth cultures, Apple opened it's 4th Japanese Apple Store. Naturally the store itself became a trend-setter and is keeping the masses informed, and entertained with its numerous events in-store and out, and one of them was the sale of "iPod nano".
As part of their rather unique advertising campaign, huge iPod nano posters now adorn the platform walls of Toyoko Line Shibuya Station.
As you depart the train you'll be faced with a stream after stream of 1:1 iPod nano cutouts, in which you can pull off and take home. Obviously, I helped myself to a few as well.
Needless to say, with its tens of thousands of people passing through Shibuya station daily, those iPod cutouts won't last very long. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be able to catch a glimpse of the staff furiously "refilling" the empty spaces with new cutouts in between the waves of departing passengers (I took the pictures after the evening rush. I can only imagine how busy these guys can be during rush hour!).
Much to my suprise, I later realised that these cutouts weren't made of cardboard but of plastic, and are very rigidly built too. On the reverse side were the URL and QR Codes of a site where you can download iPod nano wallpapers for your mobile phone.
Having living somewhere way out from Tokyo, I was very lucky to be able to get my hands on these cutouts AND witness those "refillers" in action. Hats off to Apple and their wonderful advertising.

Found out that the automated jail break is out for the iPod touch so I decided to set it free and give it some new apps. Love it!
after an alarm clock malfunction this morning, I got a new one. It will play me "Here Comes The Sun" tomorrow morning. (hey, I had to do something with my iPod classic after upgrading to an iTouch)
Two days ago, my iPod Shuffle died. I'd had it for over 3 years, and it has always been a loyal and dutiful music player.
It died because I have switched out iTunes for WinAmp, and my Shuffle didn't seem to like it. I tried everything, but only wound up making it worse. The poor thing was gone. Strangely, it didn't die when I closed it in the car door, stepped on it, or left it out in the sub zero temperatures.
Last night Apples and I made a trip to the local Micro Center to pick up my replacement music box. It's a Creative Labs Zen Stone, and, just like my Shuffle, holds 1 Gig of music. Unlike my Shuffle, it's even more tiny, the controls are more intuitive (I no longer turn the thing off by accident), and I don't need ANY software to operate it. Drag and drop is all this bad boy needs. Perhaps the best reason for me to pick one up? It is half the price of a replacement Shuffle. My Zen Stone was only $40!
Oh, and I suppose I should explain the title. I have a habit of naming my computers (as any nerd is wont to do), and I usually settle on some monster from Greek Mythology. My old desktop was Chimera, my laptop is Charybdis, and my music player is Pan. I'm sure people think I'm crazy whenever they see, "Log in to Charybdis" as my computer is booting up.

Click "All sizes" to see a detailed image.
Just some of the details in the image:
-100% to scale according to current 5th Gen iPod specs.
-LCD is 4" widescreen.
-Highlight added to simulate LCD backlight flooding.
-Scratch's and fingerprints added for an authentic iPod finish.
-The top surface plastic was tricky to get clear yet still have the proper highlight at the edges.
After Terence and I had done our earlier iPod transparent/x-ray shot experiment, I had this idea for a little mock Apple advertisement. So here's the product of our fevered imaginations.
Strobist info (which Terence, below, reminds me to add): 580EX M1/1 into white foamcore, camera left, for a side fill. SB-25 M1/1 bounced off the ceiling, both fired via Pocket Wizard Plus II's. The iPod dock is stuck via double-sided tape to a reflective black acrylic sheet.
This shot required three initial images (and a fourth for additional detail); we left the dock in place and shot from the same position with the same lighting each time, but dismantled the iPod one step at a time between the shots. The fourth shot was a higher ISO, to get a brighter and more detailed image of the circuit board to blend in for increased detail. The set of shots were combined in Photoshop CS4, and then the text added. :)

I took this a while ago. That's my trusty 20gb 3g iPod with my sisters 40gb 3g iPod and my all time favorite Grado SR-60 headphones. Her 40gb was sadly stolen by some lowlife scum.
