Better when L is pressed

Not getting a lot of time at the moment so this is a bit of fun re-processing. The original shot was an iPhone image which has been run through Hipstamatic initially and then had a film replicating filter applied (think it was Agfa Optima 200v.2) via the excellent RNI Films app. Anyone who enjoys creative digital photography should try RNI Film.

Red Rock Crossing is a scenic former ford across Oak Creek, with photogenic views of Cathedral Rock. The crossing was washed out in a flood in 1978,[2] and there are no current plans to reopen it to automobile traffic. Past proposals to build a bridge at Red Rock Crossing met vociferous opposition.[3] Most of the crossing is included in the Coconino National Forest's Crescent Moon Ranch recreation area.

Wishing a Happy Easter to all My Flickr Friends - with some tulips. To me the tulip is a symbol of spring - which I always look forward to.

Tulips are often called the harbingers of spring, as they are some of the first flowers to bloom. Spring flowering bulbs such as the tulip seem to come back from the dead, which is one reason they are associated with Easter.

The beautiful tulip flower is also considered to be a messenger of passion and love. A favorite Easter flower for lovers, it is used to convey the feelings of the heart to a special someone. While the red tulip proclaims "I Love You", tulips of any color mean "Our Love Is Perfect".

This was the third sunrise of the week that was beautiful and that I had the opportunity to capture.

After three years of service from my trusty iPhone 5 the home button gave up just before Christmas. If you've ever tried to use an iPhone without using the home button before, you can imagine how much I've enjoyed fighting with it. So it's replacement arrived today, and once again I can go home.

The label drew my eye to this bottle, we didn't buy it at the time (bit too expensive) but last week I gave in. Well it was a half-hearted attempt at giving up wine to be honest, weekdays are fine but at the weekend, with a nice meal? Well the rest is history. Happy Wing Wednesday!

Looking down into the Fraughn Rock Glen from Benleagh. The fence is to keep sheep away from the edge but it was no match for the passage of time and weather.

On a trip to Texas I was lucky enough to be able to visit the state capitol building.I'm not very impressed that often by buildings but this building blew me away!! www.facebook.com/ChadSparkesPhotography/

The Mackinac Bridge is currently the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world. In 1998, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan became the longest with a total suspension of 12,826 feet. The Mackinac Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. The total length of the Mackinac Bridge is 26,372 feet. The length of the suspension bridge (including anchorages) is 8,614 feet. The length from cable bent pier to cable bent pier is 7,400 feet. Length of main span (between towers) is 3,800 feet.

The width of the roadway is 54 feet. The outside lanes are 12 feet wide (2), the inside lanes are 11 feet wide (2), the center mall is 2 feet wide, and the catwalk, curb and rail width is 3 feet on each side - totaling 54 feet. The stiffening truss width in the suspended span is 68 feet wide making it wider than the roadway it supports.

The height of the roadway at mid-span is approximately 200 feet above water level. The vertical clearance at normal temperature is 155 feet at the center of the main suspension span and 135 feet at the boundaries of the 3,000 ft. navigation channel.

All suspension bridges are designed to move to accommodate wind, change in temperature, and weight. It is possible that the deck at center span could move as much as 35 feet (east or west) due to high winds. This would only happen under severe wind conditions. The deck would not swing or "sway" but rather move slowly in one direction based on the force and direction of the wind. After the wind subsides, the weight of the vehicles crossing would slowly move it back into center position.

The steel superstructure will support one ton per lineal foot per roadway (northbound or southbound). The length of the steel superstructure is 19,243 feet. Each direction will, therefore, support 19,243 tons. The answer is 38,486 tons (2 x 19,243 tons).
