A picture of a small and relatively empty street in Taiwan, taken during the morning.

In the very early morning, before the tourists arrived, I photographed the stunning mounted statue of Todo Takatora that stands in the inner courtyard of Imabari castle. He is overlooking the restored 5 story tenshu (keep) of the coastal castle he designed and built in the early 17th C. Shikoku Island, Japan.

The Crawley Edge Boatshed, commonly referred to as the Blue Boat House, is a boathouse located on the Swan River at Crawley in Perth, Western Australia. A well-known landmark, the boatshed was built in the 1930s, and since the 1940s has been owned mainly by the Nattrass family.

History

The boatshed was originally built in the 1930s. It first came into the hands of the Nattrass family when Roland and Joyce Nattrass purchased the land behind it in 1944 as the site for their family home. The real estate agent insisted the boatshed be purchased with the land for an additional £A 5, equivalent to A$405 in 2022.

In 1972, Roland Nattrass gave the boatshed to Ron Armstrong, a patron of the Perth Sea Scouts. A slightly larger boatshed was built around the original. In the 1990s, ownership of the boatshed passed to Barry Kollman, a sailor from the Royal Perth Yacht Club.

In 2001, the boatshed was put up for sale and purchased by Peter Nattrass, son of Roland Nattrass and Lord Mayor of Perth at the time. The boatshed had become very run down by that time. Faced with government threats to demolish and remove it, the family began to rebuild it. At the suggestion of a family friend, the local federal member of parliament Julie Bishop, the boatshed was repainted in a bold blue colour. On 6 February 2004, the refurbished boatshed was re-launched by Perth yachtsman Jon Sanders and Perth sailor David Dicks.

It was also given a facelift in late 2015, which included repainting the exterior and replacing the wooden jetty with a new one with steel pylons.

Half King Charles Spaniel and half Bichon Frisé…not an AKC recognized breed. Pooka is a 10 year old bitch and a member of our family.🐶. She is "People friendly" to a fault. Loves her daily 3-4 mile walks one of which is shown here on a brief water break.

It is of course Climate Change that is to blame.

A huge amount of work going on, along the promenade at Cromer to combat the rising sea waters and limit damage of the much more regular storms that now batter the East Anglia Coastline.

There are some 38,000 tons of giant rocks being arranged to protect the sea wall with big diggers and excavators etc. They are laying a heavy duty mesh under the rocks to stop sand coming up with the waves, so there are gaps between the rocks to slow and absorb some of the punishing power of the waves against the sea front.

More to follow over the next few days.

The high viz jacketed man on the right was giving directions at times. (Just in case any of you thought he might be taking a leak !! ha ha )

It's hard to nail perfect symmetry with a smartphone camera in the main corridor to the toilets in an airport terminal. Other passengers aren't all that patient...

We went to a weekend metal detecting rally at Bridge Farm, Somerset. This was the view of Glastonbury Tor one evening from our campsite at the farm, you can just make out visitors to the Tor on the horizon by St. Michael’s Tower. Taken with a Pentax K3 II paired with a Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 LD Macro 1:2 Lens.

Photographed pre-dawn from the Merrill Barber Bridge in Vero Beach. Captured at moment beacon was flashing after several attempts

This is possibly a 15-16th century Silver Gilt finger ring my partner and I recently found at a metal detectorist rally/dig in the Cotswolds. The ring is currently in the process of being professionally processed and valued. This may take some time but all the feedback so far is looking positive. Photo taken using an iPhone 15 Pro Plus on the magnifier function. The ring was placed on an iPad screen under black out panels. All very Heath Robinson but hopefully gives an idea of its beauty. A similar example resides in the British Museum and another one was found on the Mary Rose which sank in battle in 1545 and raised in 1982.
