This decoration (egg-and-dart) on a remaining portion of the inner wall that is sticking out was possibly my favorite thing at the Acropolis.
Era in uso, fino a non molti anni fa, mettere su uno spigolo sommitale della casa, su un comignolo o, comunque, in un posto decisamente visibile, un oggetto che si riteneva potesse proteggere la abitazione da influenze nefaste di vario tipo. Analoghe usanze erano adottate per la protezione magica dei campi e dei raccolti.

St Lawrence's church in Appleby-in-Westmorland. Skull incorporated into an ionic capital. Tomb of Margaret, Countess of Cumberland, erected in 1617. The countess was the mother of Lady Anne Clifford - who restored many churches in the Eden Valley - and whose tomb is adjacent to this.
"The lower part of the tower dates from about 1150. The south porch is from the 13th century, and the body of the church dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1655 Lady Anne Clifford restored the church, and rebuilt the north chapel and the chancel[...]The interior of the church is in Decorated style. The nave arcades are in five bays. The screens date from about 1500[…]The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building."

My trainer was so excited that I was finally NOT training for any races so that she could start dictating my cardio, too (I've been working with her for strength training for months), which means a lot more treadmill runs for me! iew of the partially restored Ionic Stoa which was built in 50 AD by Emperor Tiberius Claudius Sophanes. The Ionic Stoa originally had thirty five Ionic columns in front and nineteen shops at the rear. The road in front of it was the spectacular and processional 100 metre long sacred way which was built in the Roman period and connected the Harbour Gate and the Lions Harbour. The back of the Stoa shops were bounded by the Hellenistic gymnasium and the Vergilius Capito Baths.

David Nash (b.1945) is a sculptor who works with wood and trees.
From April to September 2012, Nash worked at Kew on a ‘wood quarry’, creating new pieces for the exhibition using trees from the Gardens that had come to the end of their natural life.

The Nash Conservatory, originally known as the Architectural Conservatory, was designed by John Nash for Buckingham Palace; it was moved to Kew at the instructions of William IV in 1836.
The building includess of cast iron posts and trusses, with twelve Ionic columns in Portland stone.
Kew Gardens (formally knowkn as the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) consists of 121 hectares of gardens and glasshouses.
The gardens began as exotic gardens belonging to Lord Capel John of Tewkesbury in the latter half of the c17th. The gardens were extended and enlarged by Augusta, Dowager Princess of Wales (and mother of the future George III) who employed William Chambers to design various buildings. George III had William Aiton (1731-93) and Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) as directors of the botanical garden. The gardens were formally established as a national botanical garden in 1840.
