The boy got me an Intuos 4 for my birthday. I am in love with it! Its even better than i thought it would be. I am still getting used to it and there is a lot to explore. All i can say for now is that using PS is so much easier on it!

I tried to make a studio effect photo.
PS process:
1 / Frequency separation to work on colour and texture of the skin on separted layers.
2 / Topaz Adjust software to adjust tones and style of the shot.
3 / Topaz texture to add a leak light and to find a good background next to the first one. No cut of the background this time, I worked directly in Topaz software and I used brush for the mask directly.

At last! I finally pulled the trigger on this iMac last week, and got it from the mailman earlier today. It's an 27" i7 with 4 gigs of ram (will upgrade to 16 later) and it's a real beauty. This is quite a difference from the 13" Macbook I've been using for editing up until now.
Here is v2.0. Quite the upgrade!

Here's another shot of Roxanne from a couple weeks back. Similar to some of the others shots we did, but the difference here is that this was edited exclusively with my new Wacom Intuos Pro S (small).
It's definitely going to take some getting used to, but for retouching it definitely speeds things up. Seems like all the people I 'look up to' online use tablets to edit their photos so thanks to some gift cards and Christmas money I decided to bite the bullet and jump into the pen and tablet world. If anyone has any tips, feel free to pass them along!

Celebrating a golden jubilee Kuwait earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records
Daily Mail Online wrote:
For the paltry sum of just £10million Kuwait earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records last night as it celebrated the golden jubilee anniversary of its constitution in style by laying on the biggest fireworks display of all time.
A dazzling array of colours illuminated the skies above the country's capital of Kuwait City as a staggering 77,282 fireworks were launched over the period of an hour.
A representative of Guinness World Records announced the achievement on Kuwait television at the end of the display which had been watched by tens of thousands of Kuwaitis and expatriates on the Arabian Gulf Road by the sea.
The visual presentation marked 50 years to the day since the late emir Sheikh Abdullah al-Salem al-Sabah announced that Kuwait had become the first Arab state in the Gulf to issue a constitution and have a parliament.

Recently I watched V for Vendetta and thought it would of have been nice to do a drawing of him since it has been awhile from the last drawing I did. Took some extra time detailing his face and leaving the rest very simple, as I wanted to be the main focus on his face.
This is a digital drawing done in Photoshop with an Wacom Intuos 4 Tablet. Only thing that wasn't drawn but just thrown in was "V's Logo".

Though right now my expertise is just to scribble and draw outline. That's how good I am as a painter. Hahahaha. But then as one said "try try and you will succeed".
So tried scribbling and outlining this very beautiful legendary actress and poet 'Meena Kumari'.
I got hold of a black and white photograph from net and thought this should be the photograph for me to start my journey to work on a tablet.
I cleaned and restored the old photograph for me to work on.
Feel free to tell me if u feel that the result is a disaster and if u feel otherwise than please motivate me to become another Husain Sahab hahahahahahahhaha.
Looking forward for both kind of comments.

Meena Kumari or Mahjabeen Bano or Meenaji (August 1, 1932 - March 31, 1972), was an Indian movie actress and poetess. She is regarded as one of the most talented and prominent actresses to have appeared on the screens of Hindi Cinema. During a career spanning 30 years from her childhood to her death, she starred in more than ninety films, many of which have achieved classic and cult status today.
Kumari gained a reputation for playing grief-stricken and tragic roles, and her performances have been praised and reminisced throughout the years. Like one of her best-known roles, Chhoti Bahu, in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), Kumari became addicted to alcohol. Her life and prosperous career were marred by heavy drinking, troubled relationships, an ensuing deteoriating health, and her death from liver cirrhosis in 1972.
Kumari is often cited by media and literary sources as "The Tragedy Queen", both for her frequent portrayal of sorrowful and dramatic roles in her films and her real-life story.
In 1972, she recognized that she had a limited time left on this earth, and so she went out of her way to complete at the earliest the cult classic, Pakeezah (1972). Initially, after its release in February 1972, Pakeezah opened to a lukewarm response from the public; however, after Meena Kumari's death less than two months later, people flocked to see it.
Throughout her life, Meena Kumari had a love-hate relationship with movies, and besides being a top-notch actress, she was a talented poetess, and recorded a disc of her Urdu poems, I write, I recite with music by Khayyam.
You can hear her ghazals in her own voice on this link.
aligarians.com/category/poets/meena-kumari/
Three weeks after the release of Pakeezah, Meena Kumari became seriously ill, and passed away on March 31, 1972 of cirrhosis of the liver (aged 39). At her death, she was in more or less the same financial circumstance as her parents at the time of her birth: It is said that when she died in a nursing home, there was no money to pay her hospital bills.

Took a long time to do this as I just realized I didn't have any Fine Young Cannibals, so after I'd bought an album of theirs I sat and sung.... Not very productive :-)
A friend wanted me to take some pictures of his Lotus Exige. I jumped at the chance as I'd always wanted to photograph the car. Night time offered a great opportunity for me to not only shoot this awesome car, but also to try out my Zebralight SC600 LED torch. The car was 'painted with light' using the Zebralight torch and a wireless shutter release. A few different exposures were taken and the best bits of each were then blended together and edited to create the final image you see here. I spent a good 5-6 hours with the Wacom tablet removing blemishes and imperfections in the car. I printed this and the other image I took of the car on metallic paper for him. I was very proud of the end result and he was extremely happy with the images. I'm hopefully going to be doing another shoot of this car in the daylight. Watch this space!
16/07/2012 - update - as per some comments below, it has been brought to my attention that the image has a tint to it. As such I have corrected this and re-uploaded the image sans tint. :)

A big part of my interest in photography revolves around the processing side and im forever watching tutorials or studying other peoples photos to try and learn new methods. This shot here taken on a morning at Hauxley with Mick Ridley, Stu Patterson & Allan England is an example of many different methods ive learned recently. Ive always admired the really contrasty seascape fine art type shots with bold blacks & whites by people like Gavin Dunbar and Keith Agget so you could say this is inspired by them although i have a lot of improvements to make with my processing.
Another person who has helped a lot of late is Jimmy Mcintyre who offers many tutorials for all manner of photoshop processing methods including Luminance Masks and also some new basic photoshop tutorials. Just by watching these videos ive learnt all manner of things even down to little shortcuts and tricks that make things so much easier!
Please check out his blog where you find his travelling photography storys and tutorials etc.
Photographically i think im struggling a bit at the minute as i find i get home and the shots i thought looked decent dont look so good on the laptop screen. Maybe this happens to everyone though :)
Update on my recent purchases ... The MacWets have been on in some very cold weather such as Thursday night up at Lilburn Tower, Dunstanburgh while Aurora hunting. My hands were a little cold but perfectly fine for using the camera and i didnt need to crack open any hand warmers.
My welly spikes have also been great when ive been to Old Hartley, seweed covered rocks at Low Hauxley (the shot above) and the lethal slippery rocks at St.Marys when you go around the back of the lighthouse to the rangefinder. All in all both have been brilliant so far.

The creative workspace is simple too. At the upper right corner is the utensil holder. Originally designed as the cable management hole, the diameter perfectly fitted my pencil holding container, which I recessed nicely into the desk to further minimize clutter. The Intuos pen holder is in the container as well as one pencil, one pen, and a TUL highlighter.
One night last week I popped over to the Angel of the North, a sculpture by Anthony Gormley in Gateshead to meet a friend for some sunset shooting.
The sky was totally cloudless when we arrived so I took some shots with my IR converted camera until it got nearer to sunset.
After trying to find a few different angles on the Angel Mike headed off to the nearby football pitch to shoot from a far but as I walked past this fence I noticed the low sun was coming through a gap in the bordering trees and landing on a small spot of shrubbery.
As is always the case here theres boatloads of tourists but on this occasion it was very busy as what appeared to be a busload of photographers landed! They were everywhere... lying on the floor under the angel and allsorts! On occasions like this you just have to accept that theyre gonna be in shot and work with it.
By this time some cloud has drifter over so I decided to go with the 10 stop filter which would give some cloud movement and maybe remove some of the crowd who were all camped in my shot by now
Worst thing about putting the 10 stop on is its metallic pink appearance attracted the whole camera club so after this shot I ended up talking and missed sunset!

I opened the RAW file in Adobe Camera Raw where I made some basic lens corrections as well as removing some green & purple fringing. Next I imported the file to PS where I opened it in Niksofts plugin Colour Efex Pro 4. I added a vignette using the darken lighten centre preset to try and accentuate the suns glow and also to lead your eye towards the angel.
I did a small bit of cloning on a few areas then converted the shot to mono using Niksofts Silver Efex Pro 2. I messed about with the various presets then chose a red filter and altered the various sliders until I got the desired effect.
Next I created a new 50% grey layer and dodged in some areas where the light caught the ribbed sections of the angel from top to toe. In all fairness you cant see them really unless you crop right in but it was a me trying to get used to working on the details however small. I used an opacity of 30% so that the effect wasnt too overboard.
For most of this shots processing I used my Wacom Intuos Touch pen tablet which is perfect for this type of thing.
Next I added some sharpening with Niksofts Sharpener Pro which was localised to specific areas.
I did find after all of these changes that I had a slight halo around the angels wings and head so theres only one way to sort that... cloning at 4-600% which is a killer! This is where the Wacom really comes into its own.
After completing that stage I was almost done (in fact my eyes were done!) but I decided to try and denoise some of the shot and opted for Topaz Denoise 5 which is great. I also decided at this point that I could improve the composition slightly by cropping part of the bottom area out as it was dead space.
After saving the Tiff file I opened it in Lightroom 5 and saved a jpeg for printing and one for the web at 900 pixels on its longest side.
So all in all i've learned a few more tricks but have a few more questions so its all good.
