Erwin Heerich (1922 - 2004) was a German graphic artist and sculptor.
Characteristic of the work of draftsman and sculptor Erwin Heerich are the geometric forms that, despite their mathematical strictness, were nevertheless developed intuitively.
Since the 1980s, he also designed buildings that he himself regarded as sculptures that could be entered from the inside. Heerich designed many buildings for the Museum Insel Hombroich near Neuss, which he developed in collaboration with the architect Hermann Müller from Düsseldorf. In these works, he succeeded in combining pure forms, uncompromising aesthetics and conditions for practical use.
Museum Insel Hombroich in Holzheim near Neuss is a museum park with the motto "art parallel to nature" (German: Kunst parallel zur Natur).
The museum was founded by the real estate agent and art collector Karl-Heinrich Müller from Düsseldorf. When he had found a suitable location, he set up a foundation called Stiftung Insel Hombroich, with the aim of presenting his art collection in various pavilions in dialogue with the surrounding nature.

These new urban estates start out as open paddocks and eventually become a estates full of cookie cutter McMansions or similar. Part of my Psychogeography project.

This Blythe doll is Prima Dolly Violet, posing on a jigsaw puzzle I recently finished.
I ordinarily avoid photos of kids in public as they can present one of those hazy areas about which people can get touchy.
In this one, however, the little girl in the fedora is unrecognizable as just her (very expressive) eyes are visible as she's navigating an iPad at the Apple Store. The recurrence of elements in threes also appealed to me.
In Wings in the Wind ho cercato di cogliere un istante che, mentre lo osservavo, mi è apparso come una forma spontanea di poesia. Ho scelto il bianco e nero per liberare l’immagine dal superfluo: volevo che restasse solo il ritmo, il respiro del cielo e la danza degli uccelli. Eliminando il colore, il volo è diventato segno, gesto, una scrittura leggera tracciata sull’aria.
Quello stormo, colto nel pieno del suo movimento, mi ha dato la sensazione di assistere a una composizione naturale, quasi musicale. Le loro traiettorie non formano un ordine rigido, eppure c’è un’armonia che emerge, una geometria intuitiva che mi ha affascinato. Ho percepito in quel disordine apparente qualcosa di profondamente coerente: la vita quando si muove insieme.
Il cielo, con le sue nuvole morbide e diffuse, era il palcoscenico perfetto. Non volevo un’atmosfera drammatica, ma una luce capace di avvolgere e far risaltare la leggerezza delle ali. Mentre scattavo, mi sembrava che il mondo rallentasse: vedevo le forme trasformarsi in pennellate d’inchiostro, come su una carta sottile e viva.
Con questa fotografia ho voluto fermare non il gesto del volo in sé, ma ciò che evoca: la ricerca, la migrazione, il desiderio di andare oltre. È un’immagine che per me parla di transiti e di altrove, di fragilità e insieme di forza collettiva. Non ho cercato virtuosismi tecnici; ho cercato uno sguardo puro, essenziale, che lasciasse spazio all’interpretazione.
Wings in the Wind per me è questo: un istante sospeso, delicato ma vibrante, in cui la natura sembrava raccontare qualcosa — e io ho provato semplicemente ad ascoltarla.
In Wings in the Wind, I tried to capture a moment that, as I watched it, felt like a spontaneous form of poetry. I chose black and white to strip the image of anything unnecessary: I wanted only the rhythm, the breath of the sky, and the dance of the birds to remain. By removing color, their flight became a sign, a gesture — a delicate script drawn across the air.
That flock, caught in the fullness of its movement, gave me the feeling of witnessing a natural composition, almost musical. Their trajectories don’t form a rigid order, yet there’s an emerging harmony, an intuitive geometry that fascinated me. In that apparent disorder, I perceived something deeply coherent: life moving together.
The sky, with its soft, diffused clouds, was the perfect stage. I didn’t want a dramatic atmosphere, but a light that could embrace and highlight the birds’ lightness. As I pressed the shutter, it felt as though the world slowed down: I watched the shapes transform into strokes of ink, as if on a thin, living sheet of paper.
With this photograph, I wanted to capture not the act of flying itself, but what it evokes: searching, migrating, the desire to go beyond. To me, it’s an image that speaks of transitions and elsewhere, of fragility and also of collective strength. I wasn’t seeking technical virtuosity; I was seeking a pure, essential gaze that could leave space for interpretation.
For me, Wings in the Wind is exactly that: a suspended moment, delicate yet vibrant, in which nature seemed to be telling a story — and I simply tried to listen.
Meaning is in the eye of the beholder and I find when I create intuitively that I am able to separate myself from the creation after the fact and become a witness of the work without prejudice.
What makes my boat float is nature connection and site specificity (a word particularly apt for my work but one I cannot pronounce). When making something like this the connection to nature means that your unconscious mind is aware of so many more things than you notice consciously, and as you career through the process toward its culmination more and more things pop up and through to awareness as you more closely connect to yourself, to your surroundings and to those you are with.
This. Is. What. This. Art. Is. All. About.
It is not a process of just making a pattern wherever you are. It is an immersive practice designed through repetition to glue you to what is there already - inside and out - peeling back layers and revelations and condensing down a whole gamut of feelings and experiences both present and past into a visual work.
@JamesBruntArtist had invited Julia and I (@JuliaBrooklyn18 aka @LandArtforKids) to work with him in the gardens of Wentworth Woodhouse for a week to mould some magic for the #WeWonder festival on the following Sunday.
On the last day we embarked on a mission to make something all together and this is what we came up with.
We wandered looking for connection and inspiration and a place to begin. As we did so thoughts made their way through to consciousness: "the energy of the trees", "the tandem combo of raw life force and aesthetic beauty in nature" and gradually these themes and more started to come through into the work as our souls rooted into the place.

Without recanting the whole experience examples of this process include unknowingly mirroring the canopy of the tree in the circle cleared out beneath it only to notice it later on. But this was no fluke or accident, if you regularly follow this intutive nature creation process these kind of things happen over and over. But that was just one among many of those connections made by us all and revealed in this work.
Sat here at my desk in front of my computer screen and reviewing film footage of this work, I am struck by lots more unintentional sybolism not consciously embued into it.
Once art is created you no longer own the reaction to it anymore. Once it is out there it is its job to provoke a thought, a reaction, a feeling or indeed nothing in the viewer.
Yesterday morning a headline on the news was the clarion call for mankind to plant a trillion trees to try and save our own skins from the hothouse hell we have brought upon us. I mentioned it to James and Julia as we created this work.
Now, seen through pixels and a square on my desk I see tree energy, and spiky glaciers tumbling into the sea, and ice floes spreading outwards into the worlds oceans as our ice caps and fresh water sources for billions melt away.
The juxtaposition of joy in nature connection when making something like this and grief via the knowledge of what we are doing to this planet is overwhelmingly mournful.
But please find a balance between these two things: between paralysis and distraction in beauty and aesthetics.
Or to put it another way: just bloody do something, there is no more time.

Adventures in Seeing # 4 - Tap into your intuition.
This morning I took the long way round to go to the shops. I meandered in side streets. I passed a low wall with an open-mesh fence and was thrilled to see all the little seed pods which had fallen since the last snow fall. I squeezed my cameras lens through the criss-cross metal railings to take several shots. There were three that I really loved, but I chose this one because it had been so well arranged by nature, just like a still-life. I couldn't have done it better myself. It was perfect!
I had a happy feeling when I saw these little pods and leaves and fallen moss. It has made my day. I had no preconceived ideas when I left home - and I found a treasure!
OK...yeah, I'm a Nikon guy. But I needed a lens so that I could sometimes use my 7D mk II. Got the 100mm f/2.8l macro lens.
The lens is terrific; it will be a long time before I trust the camera!!!. Menu system is intensely confusing, counter-intuitive, and very different from the Nikons I've been using for many years. I even managed to switch the menu into RUSSIAN!!! Do you know how hard it is to find the correct submenu selection to change the language, when all of the choices showing are in Russian???
I did get a variety of pretty decent shots...just haven't yet nearly hit a comfort level with that particular camera body. Several of the images today were better than this one, but I thought it appropriate that my first upload with the new Canon macro lens should be a close up of a Monarch, since this is definitely the year of 'saving the Monarchs'.
Donna and I assembled a selection of four of her recent Embrodery works to be juried into the annual Metro Montage exhibition at Marietta’s art museum. She’s been creating pieces like these since early this year. Most of them are approximately 9 x 12 inches, with one being two inches longer.
So here's another shot from yesterday!!
Intuitive- Using or based on what one feels to be true even without conscious reasoning; instinctive
I am very good at seeing people for what they really are.... even if it's only talking to them for a few minutes (I don't even need to see them to be able to read them). This is what makes me so good in Human Resources. When I interview people, I can quickly pick up on what type of person they are. Within 5 minutes of talking to someone I can tell if they are going to be a successful employee or if I'm wasting my time.
Sadly, with a few people, I tried to not listen to my intuitive side. I tried to give them the extra chances to prove their true motives, feeling and/or intentions. It ended up being pointless and true colors were shown. Shame on me for doubting myself. Lesson Learned =)

Am currently working on a Photobox album collating photos, letters, documents and stories to celebrate Mum's life (while she is still with us). Really love the Photobox software which is simple, flexible and intuitive.
Here she is in folk costume (hand-made by my grandmother) at a VE Day pageant to celebrate the end of World War Two.

Carrying NASA technology demonstrations and science investigations, Intuitive Machines is targeting their Moon landing no earlier than 12:32 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 6. The company’s Nova-C lunar lander is slated to land in Mons Mouton, a lunar plateau near the Moon’s South Pole, as part of NASA’s CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) initiative and Artemis campaign to establish a long-term lunar presence.
Watch live landing coverage of the Intuitive Machines 2 (IM-2) landing, hosted by NASA and Intuitive Machines, on NASA+ starting no earlier than 11:30 a.m., approximately 60 minutes before touchdown.
