Daily Mail Popular Dogs Jig-Saw Puzzle

404 pieces, used and complete except for the competition entry forms

19 x 15 1/2 in

The second of my two Daily Mail jigsaws from the 1930s, featuring competitions. The premise was to complete the puzzle and then rate the subjects - in this instance dogs - in order of popularity, to win a cash prize. The semi-interlocking pieces meant it was a fiddly job to assemble but it went together eventually.

Total piece count for 2018: 117,916

Puzzle number 151

Collection of Decklinger. Caption: LIRR Queens Interlocking December 14th 1988, LIRR SB (Section Break) (ABS H-179) Hempsead Branch December 14th 1988

yesterday two friends of mine celebrated their wedding from 2 days ago. just before leaving home for their party I remembered the "two interlocking rings" by jeremy shafer. I swiftly added a sheet of golden foil paper to my pack and later on folded the rings for them at the party. that way everybody was sure that this model is indeed folded from a single sheet of paper ; )

the locking mechanism was a bit weak but luckily I could cheat with the foil paper to strengthen it.

now today I found that everybody can learn how to fold this clever design because jeremy has kindly done a video tutorial for it. thanks!

CEA Project Logistics Thailand was contracted for the demobilisation and export to Malaysia of a High-Pressure Plastic Injection Moulding Machine weighing over 150 Tonnes.

Working alongside Mitsubishi technicians for this demobilisation project (the original machine supplier) CEA initially disconnected all the hydraulic interfaces between the machine and fixed supply, in addition, all high and low voltage electrical connections were disconnected.

After disassembling all interlocked gates and fencing, the hydraulic power packs were removed and packed into temporary supports. The access platforms and plastic supply hopper was removed next. A Sepro robotic arm assistor used for the omnium unloading required some expert rigging to ensure it was fully balanced before being dismantled. The injector unit was removed and loaded directly onto a low bed trailer for immediate load-out out to the CEA facility for packing.

The heavier components, 46 tonne die head and the rear platen with ejector unit at 42 tonnes were the final components to be dismantled. The tie-rod cap plates were removed first and then by use of the mobiles cranes the teams proceeded to slide out the four 6 Tonne tie-rods that connect the die head and platen, each of these were immediately loaded onto wooden supports and treated for rust protection.

Using special jig and tools specifically produced for this demobilisation, the CEA special projects team lifted both the die head and then the platen by means of top and tailing cranes. Both the die head and platen were moved into a horizontal position and loaded directly onto low bed trailers. They were then transported to the CEA facility for packing onto MAFI trailers in preparation for break-bulk load out. Other auxiliary parts and equipment were packed, stuffed and secured in several 40’ containers ready for shipping.

Now for something completely different: Using the "panorama" function of my camera, I attempted to capture nearly the whole Lenox Tower interlocking in one shot. This one pic represents an approx 180 degree view. At the far right, we are looking northeast toward the NS tracks. At the far left, we are looking southwest toward Granite City.

The Ramsey Interlock Tower has been restored, however, it unfortunate that the diamond is not extant. There is some rolling stock on track which shows the right of ways of the IC and Nickel Plate railroads. I believe this box car is on the Nickel Plate tracks.

Photographed using a Sony NEX 5N. N&W and IC diamond.

Folded from a single sheet of bicolor paper (blue on one side and orange on the other). This is a variation of a model by Jeremy Shafer, created and folded by me.

24 Interlocking Tetrahedra - Designed and folded by me out of copy paper. This design is simply a 4 compound of tetrahedra (Odin's Tetrahedra) woven into a 6 compound of tetrahedra (Dirk Eisner's 6 Tetrahedra). I usually like to add interweaving to these compounds for added visual complexity (like I did in my 16 Tetrahedra compound), but this time I went for the pure compound of tetrahedra. The paper proportions I used did not allow for any interweaving, but I do find there to be a smooth elegance in these types of compounds.

There are many possibilities to elaborate on here for future compounds. The 4 and 6 compounds and I chose for this design are replaceable and swappable. Arrays can also work as well. Throw interweaving in the mix and the fact that theoretically any of these tetrahedra compounds can be made out of cubes or dodecahedra and there are dozens of new designs to be made here.

An ignition interlock is a breath test device linked to a vehicle’s ignition system. Before starting their vehicles, drivers must first blow into the device. The vehicle will not start unless the driver’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is below a pre-set standard. (Photo courtesy of the U.S. Department of Transportation)

I love this pattern! It fits her well and seems like such a roomy, comfy shirt either for summer or to layer when it's cold! Perfect for an active little girl!

Medium interlock cuffed pants. The green pair Freddie's worn since last year (cuffed, now uncuffed) and they are super soft. The blue pair I bought from a super sweet DS mama. Love these pants. Wish we had, like, 5 more pairs!

Like the style of this dress, don't like how it turned out in the interlock. The seams were way too bulky and sloppy in the placket, cutfs, and pockets. Should have made it in a woven as the pattern suggested, but it just looked like it would lend itself to a knit. Live and learn...

Out in the middle of nowhere, it's a place I've been wanting to see for a long time. There used to be a small two room shack of a station here that was basically a mail drop, and for the occasional rider on the passenger trains.

No corrections, cropped to 5x7.

Fun little piece, though somewhat hard to assemble.

This abandoned electronics hut was for the old IC (now CN) and CB&Q (now Illinois Railway) Buckbee diamond at CN milepost 85.6 west on the Freeport Subdivision. The diamond has been replaced by a pair of switches at what is now the East Rockford interlocking and control point. In the distant past the old diamond was controlled by a manned interlocking tower at this location. The 436 Buckbee lettering on the eave of the building appears to be a reference to the street address of the building which is at 436 Buckbee Street..
