I unwittingly already had an example in the pictures I took, and so I added it again. This is an interaction between a decomposer (the fungus on the log) and the dead primary producer (the log). The fungus is converting the log into a more elemental form that other primary producers can use to grow.
The most influential species is a tough one for my spot...I would have to say Hemlock trees are because they are huge and soak up a lot of the sun that other plants might be able to use. If you removed it, lots of sunlight would reach the ground and more plants would grow in, and thicker. If it were replaced with an invasive species there might not be much change since it already hogs a lot of sunlight.
