I wasn't planning on going to Fred Howard Park a couple of days ago, but for some reason I felt like I might get some better pictures then rather than wait a week when I was planning to go. Just a hunch... no real reason - I hadn't checked the weather.

Ironically, it was stormy on and off during the day of the shoot, but then as I was heading to the beach, I could see some amazing cloud formations. I had to go fast to try to get there before I missed all the beautiful cloudscapes transforming before my eyes. I did miss some spectacular light rays piercing through the clouds, but there were more beautiful shots in store.

Some good fortune occurred the moment I arrived at the beach. I was getting ready to pay the $5 for parking, when someone who was leaving the beach offered to give me his full-day parking pass. Sure, why not? That's serendipity!

When I arrived at the shore and took my camera out, my lens fogged up horribly, the product of the cold air from my car's air-conditioner.. I took a few dozen "fogged-up" shots - it was an interesting effect but maybe there was one decent shot in the bunch, but nothing I did cleared up the fog. Then I opened up the lens to f 1.8, and just like that, the fog evaporated. I decided to keep shooting at f 1.8, because I liked the look coupled with my 6-stop neutral density filter.

Out in the distance, there was lightning and pyrotechnics happening, but it wasn't overhead so I kept on shooting. Then the sky lit up with an incredible orange glow as if out of a sci-fi movie... as if an alien space ship was landing. I kept shooting and shooting to try to capture the right moment.

Right after sunset, the lightning intensified and it started raining. Hurriedly, I stashed my camera into my camera bag and scurried back to my car.

Sometimes you have to go with your hunches! :)

The weather forecast on the Japanese television on 2019-10-12.

""Typhoon Hagibis developed from a tropical disturbance located a couple hundred miles north of the Marshall Islands on October 2, 2019. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued a red tropical cyclone formation alert - noting that the disturbance could undergo rapid intensification upon being identified as a tropical depression.

On the next day, October 3, both the Japan Meteorological Agency and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center began issuing advisories on Tropical Depression 20W.

The depression stayed at the same intensity as it travelled west toward the Mariana Islands on October 4, but on October 5, 20W began undergoing rapid intensification and early that day, the system was issued with the name "Hagibis" by the JMA, which means speed in Filipino.

Sea surface temperatures and wind shear became extremely favourable for tropical cyclogenesis and Hagibis started extremely rapid intensification on October 6, and became a Category 5 super typhoon in under 12 hours - the second of the 2019 Pacific typhoon season.

Edging closer to the uninhabited areas of the Mariana Islands, Hagibis displayed excellent convection as well as a well defined circulation. The system developed a pinhole eye and made landfall on the Northern Mariana Islands, at peak intensity with 10-minute sustained winds of 195 km/h (120 mph) and a central pressure of 915 hPa (27.02 inHg).

Land interaction did not affect Hagibis too much, but as the system continued to mature, it underwent an eyewall replacement cycle, which is usual for all tropical cyclones of a similar intensity.

The inner eyewall was robbed of its needed moisture and Hagibis began to weaken, but it formed a large and cloud-filled eye, which then became clear and it reached its second peak. Travelling toward Japan, Hagibis encountered high vertical wind shear and its inner eyewall began to degrade, and the outer eyewalls rapidly eroded as its center began to be exposed.

On October 12, Hagibis made landfall on Japan at 19:00 p.m JST (10:00 UTC) on the Izu Peninsula near Shizuoka. Then, an hour later at 20:00 p.m. JST, (11:00 UTC), Hagibis made its second landfall on Japan in the Greater Tokyo Area. Wind shear was now at 60 knots (69 mph; 111 km/h), and Hagibis' structure became torn apart as it sped at 34 knots (39 mph; 63 km/h) north-northeast toward more hostile conditions.

On October 13, Hagibis became an extratropical low and the JMA and JTWC issued their final advisories on the system. Hagibis caused catastrophic destruction across much of eastern Japan. A large tornado, which struck the Ichihara area of Chiba Prefecture during the onset of Hagibis, along with a 5.7 magnitude earthquake off the coast, has caused additional damage to these affected areas.""

A tawny owl perched on a glorious fungi that has grown from a tree in the forest.

Tawny owls are our largest common owl; the familiar 'brown owl' of Britain's woodlands they are also found in parks and gardens. Tawny owls make the familiar 'too-wit too-woo' call during the night and early hours but this is actually a male and female owl calling to each other - the female makes the 'too-wit' sound and the male answers with 'too-woo'. They feed on small animals like voles and mice, looking out for them from a favourite perch. Nesting usually takes place in spring in hollow trees or an old crow's nest.

Although the tawny owl is not declining their woodland habitats are disappearing and the intensification of agriculture has reduced the availability of their small mammal prey.

2021 represents a significant milestone in the history of the Phoenix Railway-Photographic Circle with the celebration of our 50th anniversary by publishing a book to showcase some of the members work, past and present, from 1971 to the present day.

The book contains 14 chapters and 144 pages of photographs depicting the work of over 50 accomplished railway photographers with many differing styles and approaches. It takes an alternative view on photographing the railway scene over the past 50 years.

The book, called 50 Years of Phoenix will be published on 14th May 2021 with pre-orders now being taken – click on this link to order your copy: www.mortonsbooks.co.uk/product/view/productCode/15554

After the strange incident on the last world, Pinky can't shake the surreal feeling that has come over him. It only intensifies with his latest jump. He climbs out of his rover and collapses on the ground.

...

When Pinky regains consciousness, he find himself surrounded by many small vehicles. Pinky stares around in disbelief. He is on a green, richly forested planet. The rovers surrounding him are filled with every manner of cute, fuzzy creatures. Directly before him, Pinky sees that the largest rover is driven by an Alpaca, not very unlike himself.

Where...where am I?

You are in our forest, the Forest of Tranquility, on the planet Ataraxos. You are most welcome here.

The creatures all murmur in agreement.

You have been wandering the galaxy, Pinky of the Space Alpacas, but you need wander no more...

You are home.

A ripple of awe spreads through the crowd. It is clear the other animals are in thrall of their leader.

Wait...How do you know my name?...This is not my home...I must continue...

where...

...what was I saying?

Pinky's mind feels as woolly as his hide. He can't quite get his thoughts to line up in an orderly fashion. They keep squirming away, just beyond his grasp.

It is okay Pinky.... Have no worries.... Everything is going to be fine now, you are home. You are one of us, now.

The other animals quietly echo:

One of us...

Yes, I am home now...one of you...that's nice...

...

...

Wait...

No!

This is not my home!

Pinky gathers himself as if he is trying to surface from deep underwater.

My home is with...

my friends...

Yes!

I must get home to my friends!

I must return to my rover...

The ochre alpaca in the bubble rover is displeased with Pinky's response. Her countenance falls and at once becomes something altogether unpleasant.

I'm sorry you feel that way, little pink one, but I assure you, you are going nowhere. While you were unconcious, my followers took the liberty of completely dismantling your vehicle. We have need of the various components. You will make no further quantum jumps, wandering the galaxy. As I have said, Pinky of the Space Alpacas,

You are home.

Pinky's shoulders slump in dispair.

It has all been for nothing...

Pinky thinks, as conciousness escapes him once more.

We live close to this park so we visit it often. It has been very wet here and the water seems to intensify the autumn colours.

A long exposure, landscape image of sunset over snow covered Beinn Vorlich in Perthshire, Scotland, on a cold but beautiful, sunny day.

This is a composite of 2 different images. The first was a 30 second exposure of the land, taken a little earlier on than the 90 second exposure of the sky, as the colours intensified. Both edited in Lightroom then blended in Photoshop.

Tulips are by far my most favourite flower.

I am fascinated by their beauty from the moment they start to bloom and open, to way beyond their prime. As these

flowers mature, the colours intensify and they start taking on delightful new formations...

The vivid, florid, turgid sky,

The drenching thunder rolling by,

The morning deluged still by night,

The clouds tumultuously bright

And the feeling heavy in cold chords

Struggling toward impassioned choirs,

Crying among the clouds, enraged

By gold antagonists in air -

I know my lazy, leaden twang

Is like the reason in a storm;

And yet it brings the storm to bear.

I twang it out and leave it there,

The Martfeld house on the eastern outskirts of Schwelm is a former manor that emerged from a moated castle. The character of a moated castle can still be recognized today by the moat that surrounds the castle-like castle on three sides. Remains of frozen snow can still be seen on the meadow, making it clear to the viewer that the photo was taken on a cold winter day. The diffuse, cool sunlight is reflected in the somewhat pale colors of the photo. I consciously avoided color intensification when developing the photo in LrC.

Part of chasing auroras is dealing with clouds...which seem to just love showing up at an inopportune time as a storm is ongoing or intensifying. At the time this was taken, I was actually dealing with more than the clouds- dawn was fast approaching in the east (to my right); and the clouds were reflecting a LOT of light pollution for some reason.

Yah, I know this looks like a touristy postcard but I couldn't resist. Queen Elizabeth Park was looking especially gorgeous on this day, no sun, bright overcast to intensify the colours, and still enough foliage to create a crayola vision worthy of a five shot panorama :)

Ah to play man number one,

To drive the dagger in his heart,

To lay his brain upon the board

And pick the acrid colors out,

To nail his thoght across the door,

Its wings sperad wide to rain and snow,

To strike his living hi and ho,

To tick it, tock it, turn it true,

To bang it from a savage blue,

Jangling the metal of the strings...

The colour continued to intensify to the NW and having neither the time or inclination to head back to the beach, compromised on my composition somewhat to capture these stunning reds. (For those wondering about the title - it is somewhat oddly painted in the bow of the foreground boat).

The common redstart shows some affinity to the European robin in many of its habits and actions. It has the same general carriage, and chat-like behaviour, and is the same length at 13–14.5 cm long but slightly slimmer and not quite as heavy, weighing 11–23 g.

Common redstarts prefer open mature birch and oak woodland with a high horizontal visibility and low amounts of shrub and understorey especially where the trees are old enough to have holes suitable for its nest. They prefer to nest on the edge of woodland clearings.

it occurs primarily in upland areas less affected by agricultural intensification, but further east in Europe also commonly in lowland areas, including parks and old gardens in urban areas. They nest in natural tree holes, so dead trees or those with dead limbs are beneficial to the species; nestboxes are sometimes used. A high cover of moss and lichen is also preferred. They also use mature open conifer woodland, particularly in the north of the breeding range. Management to thin out the trees is thus favoured.

The once common hedgehog is now under threat from development and habitat loss caused by road deaths, the reduction of hedgerows and an increase in intensification of our agricultural landscapes.

In just the last 10 years, hedgehog numbers have fallen by 30%, and there are now thought to be fewer than one million left in the UK.

It has been close to a year since I have intensified in my design works. I remember the first time when I tried to do SL Blogging and Photography since 2012, I think. It use to take me hours and hours to figure out. Many artworks were just deleted because I was never happy with result. I guess today, I am much more satisfied with this. To those aspiring SL Photographers, keep practicing.
