One from 2017 when I did my birds of Prey course. An intense stare from the Strix Aluco.

An owl's eyes are placed at the front of the head and have a field overlap of 50–70%, giving it better binocular vision than diurnal birds of prey (overlap 30–50%). The tawny owl's retina has about 56,000 light-sensitive rod cells per square millimetre (36 million per square inch); although earlier claims that it could see in the infrared part of the spectrum have been dismissed, it is still often said to have eyesight 10 to 100 times better than humans in low-light conditions. However, the experimental basis for this claim is probably inaccurate by at least a factor of 10. The owl's actual visual acuity is only slightly greater than that of humans, and any increased sensitivity is due to optical factors rather than to greater retinal sensitivity; both humans and owl have reached the limit of resolution for the retinas of terrestrial vertebrates.

Adaptations to night vision include the large size of the eye, its tubular shape, large numbers of closely packed retinal rods, and an absence of cone cells, since rod cells have superior light sensitivity. There are few coloured oil drops, which would reduce the light intensity. Unlike diurnal birds of prey, owls normally have only one fovea, and that is poorly developed except in daytime hunters like the short-eared owl.

This was a slow moving storm that rapidly intensified into a severe thunderstorm. Fortunately, it formed just east of my location. The white under the cloud is probably small hail falling.

Some alt. history I made out of boredom. America lost the revolutionary war, meaning the British Empire had access to all the resources of North America. France collapses into revolution, and Britain smells it's weakness and invades. Japan's foreign policy leads to unpreparedness against enemies of the modern age, and Britain once-more stakes it's claim. The new Imperium Britannia now has footholds in Asia Minor, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the South Pacific, Mainland Europe, and the North Americas. C&C encouraged. Vickers Model 1894 'カエル' Loader Mech is fully articulated.

Happy Slider Sunday!!

Dusk falls over Chicago as the evening rush intensifies. Here at the Tower A-2 interlocking, Pennsy-style position-light signals remain- for now. Metra recently replaced the PLs with modern signals on the west side of the interlocking plant, so for now, these (and the lights at Racine Avenue) are the last remaining PRR signals in the area. Three trains are visible here- a Milwaukee District inbound, the deadhead move for UP-North Line train 349, (with its C&NW private lounge car) and a deadhead move from the Western Avenue coach yard on the Milwaukee District, poking around the curve at the tower itself.

The Battle of Leipzig or Battle of the Nations was fought from 16 to 19 October 1813, at Leipzig, Saxony. The coalition armies of Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Sweden decisively defeated the French army of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French. The battle was the culmination of the German campaign of 1813 and involved 600,000 soldiers, 2,200 artillery pieces, the expenditure of 200,000 rounds of artillery ammunition and 127,000 casualties, making it the largest battle in Europe prior to World War I.

Inside this fantasy

It seems so real to me

Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open

True Love behind a wall

Where men and angels fall

A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

I can see a frozen point in time

Where her figure still awaits

Tongue of fire tracing lips outline

Where frozen breath originates

With one motion of her waiting eyes

She strips everything away

This one moment is intensified

And colors all fade to grey

I am in the only place that I want to be

Though we know that it ends eventually

But it's alright because right now we're frozen

I want to forget mistakes they've helped me make

It's better to be broken than to break

Inside this fantasy

It seems so real to me

Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open

True Love behind a wall

Where men and angels fall

A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

I can see a frozen point in time

That is easy to retrace

Light and darkness are both intertwined

The elements are in their place with

One motion of her wanting mind

The real world begins to fade

And all the hateful things I have become

Temporarily go away

Inside this fantasy

It seems so real to me

Synthetic ecstasy, when her legs are open

True Love behind a wall

Where men and angels fall

A fading memory, when my mind is frozen

When my mind's frozen:

I'll take you anwhere you want to go

Far from anything that feels like home (lets go)

You are anyone I want to be (it's here and now, and now it's only you and me)

It's never enough (mmm that's true)

I want to stay here (yeah, and I do too)

Breakin' it down(takin' it down)

With smell(smell), touch(touch, taste(taste), sight(sight), and sound(sound)

How long will I be here without you near because I'm so cold

Break them first or I'll get broken is not what I was told, now I'm so cold

I'm so cold

So cold

It seems so real to me

A serene sunset red bow emerges out of a rapidly intensifying storm (see some of the lightning it produced in the first comment below).

Red Bows (sunset and sunrise rainbows) are a result of the sunset sun rays (or sunrise) traveling long paths through the lower atmosphere where they are scattered by air molecules and dust. Short wavelength blues and greens are scattered most strongly leaving the remaining transmitted light proportionately richer in reds and yellows (source).

I am glad to launch my LEGO minifigure scale Phoenix on this special day, again! πŸ˜ŠπŸš€

Initially I wanted to refit and relaunch the Phoenix last year. My goal was to proper replace the Light Bluish Gray Color with shiny Metallic Silver and while doing this, also to adjust proportions and details to closer match the reference. 😎

I really liked this particular concept on Star Trek First Contact - the transformation of a weapon of mass destruction into a vessel that will shape a peaceful and better future!

This message and idea is today more important than ever - LLAP

Special thanks to my good friend Marshal Banana for helping me out with the wonderful photo-edits (again)!

The mountain in the middle right is called Schafberg.

This was the first time in 13 years that I've been back to this place - I almost forgot how beautiful it was!

PS, I did not alter or intensify the color of the lake, this is what it really looked like!

First upload for 2012 - but another "blast from the past". That's a sunrise shot taken way back in March 1999 in the nature reserve Riddagshausen in Braunschweig, Germany.

Actually the real colors were not as spectacular - but then there's all that useful stuff in the photo bag...

The use of a polfilter to intensify the reflection and an additional FL-W filter to intensify the magenta tones helped a lot.

I paid a visit to an abandoned graveyard at nighttime. There was a slight fog which intensified the bluish lights in the background.

A supercell gains strength as it sits over the small town of Chester, Nebraska.

This is my cover version of Cole Porter's "Every Time We Say Goodbye". This is the first time since my illness that I have been able to play my full-sized guitar!! I still play as badly ; 0)) First time I've written a poem in conjunction with myself singing ... the artwork is a compilation of 5 of my photographs and is called "Goodbye To Autumn."

β€œIt was one of those perfect English Autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life. The rich colours of grass and earth were intensified by the mellow light of a sun almost warm enough for Spring...”

~P.D. James, A Taste for Death

SOLITUDINAL SILENCE

Autumn frees us from the chains of Summer

those moments that pushed us to limits beyond

the boundaries we set for ourselves in Spring

now calmly in sweet solitudinal silence

we stand apart and wait to see what Winter brings

the cooler air whispers keenly and speaks of change

indistinctive rarefied senses aroused so quickly

disappear within a heartbeat of my hearing range

echoes of the night fall softly like footfalls on first snow

dampening out the sounds and cries from deep within my soul

the canopy of the forest shadows me as I try to walk away

when the betrayal came it fell so swiftly

like an axe; sharp and severed my attachment to you

so suddenly and completely that at first I barely noticed

it seemed incomprehensible given the circumstance

a cold numbness crept through my veins

trickling like freezing water ebbing from the first thaw

incomplete paralysis seeped in and I was aware first only

of a tiny prickling of my thumbs

like that old adage when evil this way comes

the sudden onslaught happened as these things do

as though in a slow motion emotionless cinematic experience

vague and careless words and phrases danced before me

my mind's eye honing in carefully trying to make some sense

trying to reduce the magnitude to a small burning ember

something that I could deal with; a tiny seed I would remember

to save and savour;

to satisfy my hunger in the darker nights to come

a remnant of how things used to be;

a warm glowing substance

to substantiate this feeling that I hadn't thrown my love away

that there was good reason why this happened

and if only I could fan the flames so our love could burn again

brighter than before; brighter than the sun that drenched us

and bathed us in it's warm and satisfying glow

and the Summer rain that quenched our thirst

for life; for love and all the romance that gave birth

to lift our souls and hearts above and out of mortal minds

a love incomparable;

a love so sweet; so sensual; so incredibly divine

but here I stand deep within the forest;

hushed tones of the night creep ever closer

lulling me to lay down on the Autumn leaves

and sleep through Winter deeply dreaming

of the new Spring that will no doubt come

and sweep away my golden tears

that stain the foliage on the forest floor

that precious pillow softly knowing all I am and all I was before

an imprint of my slumbered body

lies dormant on this bed of mine

and come the Spring I wake unencumbered

by the loss I felt when Winter held me down

for in the new year; seasons come and go as usual

and I will be renewed; rejuvenated by my sleep

and who knows what this rebirth has in store for me

and who knows all the secrets that the forest keeps.

Ahaha, i almost fainted today

I guess heat stroke with the help of screen radiation(not like radiation)from the computer, lack of water, and exertion from workout.

Who wouldn't faint if they had those things. But yeah it was not good my eyesight got really fuzzy and weird.

Not like it matters. It was just interesting to talk about. I think I'm gonna get an early snooze up today.

Thanks again for all the appreciation Goodnight to everyone!

:D

Oh yeah these are our the lockers in school.

I tried to make as good as Kristine but no dice.

This book I'm reading is so devastating! ahaha. it's interesting.

And the color, the overcast blue

Of the air, in which the blue guitar

Is a form, described but difficult,

And I am merely a shadow hunched

Above the arrowy, still strings,

The maker of a thing yet to be made;

The color like a thought that grows

Out of a mood, the tragic robe

Of the actor, half his gesture, half

His speech, the dress of his meaning, silk

Sodden with his melancholy words,

The weather of his stage, himself.
