One morning I came upon this very pretty insect which was resting on a milkweed leaf. Having never seen one before, I had to do a bit of research. I learned that it's called a Caddisfly and that there are 1,340 species of Caddisflies in North America. They are aquatic insects and spend most of their life as larvae which live in cool, flowing water. Adults such as this are terrestrial and they tend to be most active at night, hiding in cool, moist habitats during the daytime. Adult caddisflies can only feed on liquids, since they do not have well-developed mouthparts. They feed only on plant fluids, such as nectar, or may not feed at all.

The next day I found one with its wings open and I sure wanted to get a photo of it, but alas, it flew off in a nanosecond.
Thank you for your views and comments, much appreciated. Have a great day!

Black swallowtail caterpillar. This caterpillar absorbs toxins from the host plants, and therefore tastes poor to bird predators.

A very small skipper nectaring at a peppermint stripe zinnia in my pollinator garden. I don't have an ID for this skipper, after spending quite a bit of time staring at pictures of skippers they all begin to look alike. This one was very small and very pretty.

What an absolute delight to spot this Luna Moth from a far distance. I knew immediately that it wasn't a green leaf and grabbed the camera. Luna Moths are one of the largest moths in North America. Thanks to everyone for viewing, faving and commenting on my images. Stay well and safe.

I noticed a tiny spider (about 4mm), it was leaving a lambs ear blossom (Stachys byzantina) and I was wondering where it goes next as I realized, it landed on a lower level located lambs ear like it had used a cable car with its spider thread.
Do you know that a spider silk is five times as strong as a steel cable of the same diameter? and more elastic than rubber?
