This is the carapace of my Carnifex in progress. Isn't it shiny and iridescent? The body of the carnifex is dark mottled blue with teal mottled highlights. All the hard armour bits are iridescent blue-white. I haven't decided what I want the blades to be yet....either black with the iridescent glaze or maybe white?

I stress the importance of iteration and flexibility when developing design work. An idea often grows stronger when it is studied in many ways and approached from many directions.

As you know, I like to keep myself busy with lots of art projects. So after deciding that my list of things-to-do wasn’t long enough, I decided to embark on a new project. Here is a sneak-peek. What’s it going to be? Don’t worry, everything will be revealed by the end of the week! :)

Indian wedding sari material which I am embellishing. Will take a while.

We're restricting the presentation graphics for this project to line drawings and make2d-style simply shaded axos, but I took a break to see what this building looks like with more drama. Better have a high-gamma screen....

Camera angle: Zaha.

Color: Halloween

Project: Paffard

Result: yikes!

...results of my first upholstery class. The mysteries of webbing and padding have been revealed to me! I gathered the corners instead of pleating them. This practice piece will be a little cushy animal bed. We cover it with real fabric next week...my teacher is fantastic.

Whoa! That light really shows the lint on my cloth!

The next step is to cover the front of the wood with a dry-stacked stone wall and the top with pebbles.

I’m currently making two plush dolls for a special project, so I thought I’d share some in progress pics and talk about making them. :)

Then I cut everything out. It’s hard to tell that they’ll look any good at this point, lol.

Next I choose the colours and fabric I want to use. I lay everything out in an abstract kind of way to help visualize what colours go together, and what don’t before I start cutting the fabric.

I don't like rain </3

I thought I would kick off the new year by starting in on one of the chunks of black walnut that came my way during the summer. This is as far as I will take it for now. The next step is to re-coat it with the same wax coating it had six months ago, then wait another six months before finishing the turning.

Jin and I did some gardening and hardscaping in our little piece of outdoor space! I love it now sooooo much!

come read about it here

This 9x10 room is really multi-purpose. It used to be my office, but I merged with the other office over a year ago.

The powder blue walls (and trim) with the horrible border are finally history. Sadly, Scott discovered that the blue paint itself was over wallpaper. ARGH. People...

Anyway, the blue wall will eventually have my sewing machine against it (it's currently in the office while renovations and guests overtake the room).

We need a guestroom for a month every summer, and for a weekend every other month, at a minimum. I am continually arguing with myself about whether that means it should be indefinitely a guestroom, or if there is some other solution.

Scott's doing a great job, despite my freaking out about things I cannot control.

These colours were inspired by all the crazy neon colours from the 90's that are coming back. Just walk into any shoe store, and you'll know what I'm talking about. ;)

These new deer will have wild and bright colours, and some will have mohawks! :D

The side of the house, primed and with the first coat of blue. I have a TON of yardwork to do... those trees really need to be groomed.

Bit of a sekrit, will post about this soon! :)

When I'm done, I'll felt it and sew it up into a little change purse -- thanks to Karen Neal for the idea.

This is how it looked a few days ago. I love it when it looks like this because it means I'm deeply involved in a project. I completely tidy and clean everything up before starting a new project. I like to stay as organized as I can.

In progress, obviously.

The dolls are both happy (and unhappy) with their new smiles, and can’t wait for me to finish them! I’ll be revealing their names & backstories when they’re completed.

To be continued...
