Infinity Bridge
Here's a shot from last week. This fantastic bridge in just a few miles from the hospital where my mother is, so a visit seemed like a good idea.

The Infinity Bridge is a public pedestrian and cycle footbridge across the River Tees in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees in the north-east of England. The bridge is situated one kilometre downriver of Stockton town centre, between the Princess of Wales Bridge and the Tees Barrage and it links the Teesdale Business Park and the University of Durham's Queen's Campus in Thornaby-on-Tees on the south bank of the Tees with the Tees Valley Regeneration's £320 million North Shore development on the north bank.

"INFINITY, the installation created by Stephen Newby, constists simply of a ring of light, caught between two mirrors. As everybody who ever stood between two mirrors knows, this creates the effect of endless reflection. To the visitor it looks as if an endless tunnel bores through the canal. It may happen that, as a spectator, you get confused by what you see, but that’s exactly what is intended. Giving the spectator an experience of alienation is what this British artist is after in all his works. ‘I like to make objects that confuse the eye and that give spectators the feeling, if only for a moment, of being in another space dimension.’
Newby entered the public eye by blowing up metal objects. When he works with light, nothing is what it seems to be either. ‘In this case I make use of an existing principle, but in an unexpected place.’ According to Newby the two mirrors symbolize the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ Europe and the endless reflection of light represents all the possibilities coming from mutual collaboration. Besided, the artist adds, INFINITY is about staying united in time. INFINITY is a work you can watch endlessly, which partly due to the fact that it changes with every step you take.

Over the past two decades the British artist Stephen Newby has worked with stainless steel materials. For the realization of Full Blow Metals in 2001, Newby developed a technique that literally breathes new life into steel and metals. Newby has recently broadened his field of work with other reflective forms, including light. “I like to create objects that confuse the eye and give the viewer the feeling that he/she has found his/herself in another dimension.”

Woven out of high quality Japan seed beads in graduating sizes, each infinity element is linked by an embellished peyote woven strip. To add interest to the element, a bezelled and embellished Swarovski crystal blossoms from the centre.
Suspended in the middle is a centrepiece of bezelled Swarovski crystal. Deliberately left unembellished as contrast against the embellished elements.
The necklace is secured with a double toggle clasp to provide symmetry to the whole.
Infinity has also been juried for inclusion in Lark Book's Showcase 500 Beaded Jewelry.

The Infinity Cube was a mid-seventies tabletop art object and conversation piece: a ring of Christmas tree lights on a motorized base, hidden inside a semi-silvered black cube. Turn it on, and you saw dancing colored lights stretching to infinity. I had an Infinity Cube on my bedside table growing up, and this is a time exposure I took of it, probably with my Voigtlander Vito IIa. Just found the old Kodacolor negative and scanned it right up.
