“What is an artist? A provincial who finds himself somewhere between a physical reality and a metaphysical one.... It’s this in-between that I’m calling a province, this frontier country between the tangible world and the intangible one—which is really the realm of the artist.”
~Federico Fellini

Information: These two images are outcomes of my A level exam. The top photograph shows one half of my final piece. Measuring 1m x 1m this brusho and acrylic painting, painted using only my fingers depicts a flower with the colour slightly distorted. The inspiration of which came from a visit to the Eden Project in Cornwall, when my camera lens fogged up due to the humidity in the Biomes, resulting in my photographs becoming blurred. By mixing brusho and white acrylic paint I was able to retain the vivid colours. This was very important as I found that even though my photographs from the trip were blurred, the colour seemed to be just as bright, if not more than the physical object.
The A1 charcoal sketch below is of a local landscape. My aim with this drawing was to use different marks to create tone and texture; by using the flat side of the charcoal I was able to get the texture of the grass whilst showing the slight curve in the terrain. This technique is very quick and works well in sketches such as this where you want a lot to be shown in one simple movement.

Inbetween the snowshovers the sun revealed itself just long enough for a few preliminary testshots. The articulated screen+live-view+shutter delay function of the D5000 makes it just perfect for this kind of shooting. The only complaint is that the sun is TO BIG :D (this is a crop, but with this setup you woun´t get the whole disk in the image) No problem for me, Venus is still not too big. Data: Nikon D5000, MTO-11CA+TC-201 (=3000mm on DX), Baader astrosolar filter, ISO800 1/500s, 2s self timer, shutter delay ON.
