I laughed when I saw this orange kayak tied up here. Almost like it snuck in between, hoping not to be noticed in the middle of all the wooden dinghies... ;-)

Managed to get a quick reflection inbetween showers in a muddy puddle. Did not dare leave any longer as there is a cyclone now brewing up north< Poor Bundy has copped too much rain and cannot afford to have any more as our ground cannot absorb any more. Some poor people have been flooded 3 time of late:-(

inbetween service and due out on service to Hadley in August 88 this Leyland Leopard / Duple Dominant 2 had arrived from North Western in 88 lasting until 93.

Inbetween summer and winter. Not pictured: bike, race wheels, civilian clothes.

So, here were are, or were, Friday night in Lincoln, pouring with rain, but inbetween the showers, able to get shots with the water reflecting off the cobbles. Proper nice.

A four hour drive through rush hour traffic, the very worst on the A46 round Lincoln, but once settled into our room, we were off out in search of a pub and maybe something to eat.

And photography.

We walk from the B&B, turning towards the city centre until a short sharp shower forces us into The Stags Head for a warming drink until the shower past. And in doing so I had to second worse pint of the year. But we had stayed dry.

We walked to the three illuminated towers of Lincoln Cathedral, down Bailgate, along cobbled streets, timber framed houses, warming taverns and restaurants.

At the top of Steep Hill (more of that in a while), we pause to look in the Cathedral Close for more shots, and what a sight with the cathedral all lit up, and we had the whole Close to ourselves.

Down Steep Hill where there were few others about, I keep snapping until the rain begins to fall again. Thoughts turn to food, so we look for a place to eat, finally deciding on an Indian place, where we fast on fine spicy food whilst the rain falls outside.

---------------------------------------------------

Steep Hill is a popular tourist street in the historic city of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. At the top of the hill is the entrance to Lincoln Cathedral and at the bottom is Well Lane. The Hill consists of independent shops, tea rooms and pubs.

In 2011, Steep Hill was named "Britain's Best Place" by the Academy of Urbanism..

Its name arises from the gradient of the hill, which is difficult to ascend and descend. At its steepest point, the hill has a one in seven (14%) gradient.

The bottom leads to The Strait. Three-quarters of the way up is the junction with Wordsworth Street, on which is Chad Varah House, the home of the Departments of Conservation & Restoration and History of Art & Design of the University of Lincoln. From this junction, the road narrows at this point and leads past the Wig & Mitre pub and Brown's Pie Shop and to Castle Hill to the left and Exchequergate to the right.

The central (and steepest) part of the route is unsuited to any form of vehicle, and only passable on foot. A handrail is provided along this section. The route is part of the Roman route from the ford over the River Witham to the Forum in modern Bailgate, and thus the final part of Ermine Street and Iter VI of the Antonine Itinerary.

Two Norman houses lie on the street, Jew's House and Norman House, the latter formerly known as "Aaron the Jew's House". Both display characteristic Norman mullioned windows. Adjacent to and above the Jew's House stands Jew's Court, said to be from the Norman period but not displaying any obvious Norman features. There are some jettied half-timbered houses towards the top.
