A jam night with a difference as singers, musicians, MCs and beat boxers jam with our house band.
Final outcome for my EPQ.When creating my dress there was elements that at first seemed simple but as it turned out this wasn't the case. At first I decided I would simply by fabric flowers and place them on the collar, however they proved difficult to find. Therefore I had to think on my feet, improvise. I found a video on the internet which demonstrated how to create fabric flowers. I love the detail within the flowers and how each one is unique. I feel they show my drive to want to learn and over come challenges.
Improvisation is a huge part of all Love Drama sessions. Kirsten, the company director has studied with Keith Johnstone, the leading pioneer in improv. We are the only youth theatre group who lead a group who work soley on improv techniques. Improv is fun, exciting, fast paced and an activity where making mistakes is warmly accepted. Improv is a wonderful skill for young people to learn and it will stand them well throughout their whole lives.
At 6:00pm on Friday, June 3rd 2011, The Hideout’s eight marathon improvisers took the stage and stayed there until noon on Sunday, June 5th 2011, performing 42 straight hours of improvisational theater and comedy without sleep or respite. Each hour of the marathon was a separate show, featuring classic and upcoming Hideout formats, one-off shows never to be seen again, and guest troupes and players from Austin’s ever-growing improv community.
This year’s marathon was also a fundraiser to raise money for the Hideout Youth Program.
These are photos from hours 13 through 17 and hour 21 of the marathon.

Quimbombó is a groove oriented band with a musical base in the Cuban són (the contagious dance music championed by Buena Vista Social Club that is the main ingredient in salsa); they always maintain strong elements of improvisation and spontaneity in their sound.
Quimbombó (pronounced keem-bohm-BO) is the title of a classic Cuban són popularized by Conjunto Chappotín in the 1950's; a word of Congolese origin, it means "okra" or "gumbo" in Spanish.
The group's lively and unique sound has excited audiences at many venues including Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night's Swing, The River to River Festival, SOB's, the Brooklyn Museum, La Belle Époque, and Gonzalez y Gonzalez. They have recorded two CDs, Quimbombó, released in 2004, and Conga Electrica, released in 2008.
