"Leena Nio’s (b. 1982) new paintings are all about layers -– both physically and symbolically. Layering has always been Nio’s signature technique, but this time the concept is taken to the next level. Nio experiments with a new technical idiosyncrasy in each of her exhibitions, with each painting taking its cue from a minor, commonplace occurrence. The mundanity leaves plenty of room for both the painting process and the viewer’s interpretations to unfold freely.
Like many peers of her generation, Nio collected stickers and Victorian die-cuts in her childhood. These “stickers” have now found their way into her paintings. The glossy, lacquered pictorial elements hovering on the surface of the canvas are – despite being hand-painted – deceptively reminiscent of stickers or die-cuts. They are like emojis added to a text message. Or Instagram posts with added stickers and filters. The paintings in the exhibition achieve the same effect: using 21st-century tools, they take the message to the next level. With her add-on flourishes, Nio also self-reflexively comments on her process. Often finding it difficult to know when to finish a painting, she adds the final sticker as if dotting an “i” or crossing a “t.”
The surplus layers add many possible interpretations to her paintings. Her paintings are timeless, yet the add-ons link them powerfully to the contemporary moment. Her work abounds in allusions to art history, starting with her conscious decision to leave exposed patches of the raw, unpainted linen canvas, a device often used in classical painting. The irresistible union of historical allusions and stickers creates a clever conceptual and visual interplay of ideas.
After earning a master’s degree in visual arts from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Nio was awarded the Finnish Art Society’s Ducat Prize in 2010. In 2021 she will complete a large-scale public artwork for Finnoo station on Helsinki’s new Länsimetro subway line. Also coming up this year is a multidisciplinary piece for the Espoo Museum of Modern Art EMMA to be completed together with her husband, Kalle Nio. Nio’s work is found in significant Finnish collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, the Saastamoinen Foundation Collection, and the Sara Hildén Art Museum."

This Honir is quick(reflex), agile, and fast. He is equipped with a SCAR assault rifle and a folding blade the blade can be folded into a axe, a scythe, or a straight sword. What he lacks in armor and fire power he more then makes up in speed.

Network Rail test train with John Armitt leading on a Derby to Landore working passes Malvern Link at speed.
Sandusky Mall, like many other malls has lost many of its anchor stores in recent years; Sears, Macy's, and Elder-Beerman closed their stores at the mall.
Recently ownership of the mall has started a project to redevelop the Sears wing and rear of the mall. Sears is now largely occupied by Hobby Lobby. The former Macy's, Elder-Beerman, and part of the enclosed mall area near where sears was is getting renovated / redeveloped into new retail space featuring places such as Five Below and a relocated TJMaxx. The empty land and parking lot behind the mall is planned to be turned into a housing development.

Waylon is improving slowly, he is very nervous and has been badly beaten in the past with the result that some of his teeth were broken but also leaving him extremely nervous as you can imagine. He has stomach problems due to being malnourished for some time. He is very energetic and such a good soul - hopefully with some time and care he will improve:-)

In the Katfoura village on the Tristao Islands in Guinea, the civil society organization Partenariat Recherches Environnement Medias (PREM) is providing rural women with new opportunities to generate income and improve community life.
Through a grant from UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality, PREM has helped rural women form several cooperatives and taught its members how to plant a vitamin-rich tree called Moringa and how to clean, dry and sell its leaves. Used as medicine or a dietary supplement by societies around the world, Moringa also supports biodiversity and prevents soil erosion.
The cooperatives are made up of local women who come together to share ideas, and they give women an opportunity to build leadership skills, strengthen community bonds, and participate in economic decisions that affect the community.
PREM is one of over 120 civil society organizations that has been awarded a grant by UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality since 2009. In the last six years, the Fund for Gender Equality has successfully awarded USD $64 million to grantee programmes in 80 countries. To date, such programmes have reached over 10 million women, girls and boys as direct beneficiaries.

It was time for Rayne to get a makeover, that whole fringe bang was not working for her as it poofed out all the time instead of staying put where it was suppose to be, so I went on eBay and found this head and popped it onto her body and BOOM just a whole new personality from this girl and I love it!!

Impov-ish entertainment from high schoolers. In this episode, a young man visits the doctor for a checkup, but as one patient after another checks in after him, he starts to acquire their diseases: cough, abdominal pain, etc. The last straw occurs when a pregnant woman walks in: he races out!

These 2 men are working in harmony with each other, repairing or enhancing the parking spaces at a large medical center in Eugene, Oregon. But one is perpendicular to the other, and one is on his knees, while the other is seated on a red stool with 5 red wheels (possibly 6, but one is not visible in my photo). They both to seem to have identical company T-shirts and shorts. I cannot tell if their hats are identical or just very similar.

WALNEY LIGHTHOUSE WAS BUILT IN 1790, AND POSITIONED AT HAWS POINT ON THE ISLAND. ITS PURPOSE WAS TO IMPROVE THE NAVIGATION OF THE RIVER LUNE AND ACT AS A GUIDE FOR CARGO SHIPS FROM THE WEST INDIES BOUND FOR THE GLASSON DOCKS. THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS NOT BUILT TO BENEFIT BARROW, AS IT WAS ONLY A SMALL FISHING COMMUNITY AT THIS TIME.
THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS BUILT OF STONE QUARRIED FROM OVERTON IN LANCASHIRE AND TRANSPORTED TO THE SITE BY SHIP. THE OCTAGONAL TOWER IS 70 FEET HIGH AND RESTS ON A CIRCULAR FOUNDATION 20 FEET 6 INCHES IN DIAMETER. THERE ARE 91 STEPS UP TO THE TOP OF THE LIGHTHOUSE. THE ORIGINAL LIGHT WAS AN ARGENT BURNER, A TYPE OF PARAFFIN LAMP.
IN 1909 AN ACETYLENE GASLIGHT SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED WHICH FLASHED AT ONE MINUTE INTERVALS. IN 1953 THIS WAS REPLACED WITH AN ELECTRIC LIGHT WHICH FLASHES AT 15 SECOND INTERVALS. THE NEW LIGHT IS 30 TIMES MORE POWERFUL (450,000 CANDLE POWER) AND HAS A RANGE OF 18 MILES COMPARED TO 13 MILES OF ITS GAS PREDECESSOR. THE ELECTRIC LIGHT WAS FIRST POWERED BY ITS OWN GENERATOR, NOT BEING CONNECTED TO THE NATIONAL GRID UNTIL 1969. THIS GUIDING LIGHT CAN EVEN BE SEEN FROM BLACKPOOL.
ATTACHED TO THE LIGHTHOUSE ARE TWO HOUSES IN WHICH THE KEEPER AND STAFF LIVE. THESE HOUSES WERE ORIGINALLY ONE HOUSE, WHICH WAS BUILT FOR THE FIRST FULL-TIME KEEPER. THE HOUSE WAS DIVIDED INTO TWO IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY. AT THIS TIME THE LIGHTHOUSE’S ONLY WATER SOURCE CAME FROM THE RAIN AND THE ONLY LIGHTING CAME FROM CANDLES.
DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR, THE HOUSE WAS USED AS AN OFFICERS' MESS WHEN 170 SOLDIERS WERE ENCAMPED AT THE LIGHTHOUSE AS PART OF THE COASTAL DEFENCE NETWORK. IN 1946 14 PRISONERS OF WAR WERE MOVED INTO THE CAMP. THEY DID ODD JOBS AROUND THE LIGHTHOUSE IN RETURN FOR CIGARETTES AND FOOD. THE REMAINS OF THE BARRACKS ARE STILL VISIBLE.
TODAY THE LIGHTHOUSE IS RUN BY THE PORT OF LANCASTER COMMISSIONERS AND CONTAINS A RADIO BEACON FOR TRINITY HOUSE, FORMING A MAJOR LINK IN THE BRITISH COASTGUARD SYSTEM. ALTHOUGH THE LIGHTHOUSE IS NO LONGER OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, IT CAN BE VIEWED FROM THE OUTSIDE.

Handheld pano of 8 vertical slices each bracketed -2, 0, and +2ev. (one slice was blurry so total 23 raw images). Individual shots taken using Nikon D90 with Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 VC lens at 38mm, ISO200, F/9, 1/80s.
Stitched together using PTGUI with exposure fusion, then post processed with Capture NX2 to improve contrast.
I submitted this photo to Epson Panoawards 2012 and got Bronze!
After noticing my War Machine didn't have matching armor to the movie, and mt Iron Man's armor fell apart I made new ones. The armor is made out of sculpy. it was painted by me. The Iron man is based off of the Mark III; correct me if I'm wrong. the sculpy is in the shape of a triangle, bit the LED is not :(.
On my son's graduation trip, we decided to visit the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. It was tough to schedule things, especially the train rides in Colorado, due to Covid. Fortunately, we were able to work in being near Moab, UT on a Friday.
His mom and sister wanted an off day to do nothing but sit by the hotel pool. We planned that for a Friday. Friday's are typically when the UP runs a local down their Cane Creek Branch (Green River Subdivision) to Potash, UT. This branch offers some of the most amazing railroad scenery in the US.
As the Cane Creek Branch gets closer to Moab, the more dramatic the scenery becomes.

Negative developer applied for 80 seconds as well.
Only on negatives do I get all these black marks.
Judging the negatives after drying, despite having clean blacks, they appear close to being too dense even for salt printing. We shall see eventually.
