Improved Health of Women and Adolescent Girls in Situations of Vulnerability (IHWAG) Project Review of Best Practices in Guyana.
The purpose of this mission to Guyana is with the primary objective of gathering audiovisual materials that highlight best practices and demonstrate the positive impact of the IHWAG Project in Guyana. This is in line with the visibility and advocacy objectives of the Project as it nears its conclusion in 2025.
This review of best practices is a joint effort between the PAHO Guyana Country Office, the IHWAG Project Management Team, the PAHO Communications Department (CMU), and the Latin American Center for Perinatology, Women and Reproductive Health (CLP)
The IHWAG Project would like to showcase the achievements made particularly in Georgetown and in Region 9 with respect to the implementation of the SIP+. In consultation with national counterparts, the collection of a three-to-four-minute story-based video, photographs, and testimonies are key to achieving this objective. It is anticipated that these materials will be included in the final communications product of the Project, a digital logbook.

Improving the orphanage classroom truly was a community project. Local and international volunteers poured a concrete floor and added dividing walls and an external wall. This classroom is capable of functioning for several years, until a more permanent structure can be built.
The project was funded by Help Emma Help Haiti; pease visit www.HelpEmmaHelpHaiti.com.

Background:
Although the improved ”King Arthur” class 4-6-0 locomotives were capable of the heaviest express passenger work between London and South West England, there was a growth in demand for Continental traffic travelling via Dover and Folkestone. By the mid-1920s the Southern Railway Traffic Department wished to begin operating 500-long-ton (510 t; 560-short-ton) express trains on these routes during peak periods. These would require a more powerful locomotive, able to pull heavier loads at sustained speeds of 55 mph (89 km/h), so as not to impede the congested electrified lines around London. However, any enlargement of the existing 2-cylinder design was not possible due to weight restrictions imposed by the railway's Civil Engineer.
After examining the practice of other British railways, Richard Maunsell, the Chief Mechanical Engineer, secured agreement for a 4-cylinder design, with an improved boiler and Belpaire firebox. The drive would be divided between the front coupled axle for the inside cylinders and the middle coupled axle for the outside cylinders giving better weight distribution and reduced hammer blow. The new design was an inevitable compromise between the need for additional power and to keep the weight down to an acceptable limit.
There were two unusual features of the design: the first of which was the setting of the crank axles at 135°, rather than the standard 90° of other locomotive types. This design necessitated four sets of valve gear, and gave rise to eight beats per revolution, rather than the usual four, designed to give a more even draw on the fire and less chance of wheelslip when starting. The second difference was that fire grate was in two sections, the rear portion was horizontal and the front sloped away sharply.

How can AI improve, inform, and influence digital cultural heritage? Digital humanists and cultural heritage enthusiasts got together from February 12 to 20 to bring AI and digital heritage closer together. Learn more about the project and outcomes on ai4europe.eu.
Held at the KU Leuven campus in Belgium, the hackathon gave participants the tools and datasets they needed, available on the AI4Culture platform, and challenged them to come up with innovative projects that applied these AI tools to the datasets.
Europeana, the treasure trove of European digital cultural heritage hosting over 50 million digital items, was a primary dataset repository for the hackathons. 5 Teams presented their outcomes during the final event on 20 February 2025.
