The bang at the door

Monday night: Rebecca Hart, at Rockwood Music Hall. I've missed her last few shows, solo and with her band The Sexy Children, so I'm glad to be here now, even though I can barely croak out a few sentences when the need arises.

She starts with a Tom Waits cover and a Tom Waits joke, and keeps me dazzled for a short, tight set.

Rockwood is particularly dark tonight; there's hardly ever any useful light where I need it. So I brace myself against chair and table and rest the camera on my forehead, looking like a nut job, no doubt, and shoot slow and grainy. This shot is at 1/20 of a second, way out of the comfort zone but sharp where it needs to be. Since the colors were a bit dingy, I went at it in Photoshop with more gusto than usual, and made it a little more like it looked in my head.

This is pretty much SOOC!! I used a Nikon 58mm + a extension tube on a Nikon Z6II. The wind was blowing which made it impossible for anything to be sharp at this magnification, but after I sat looking at the images I decided that I really liked the "accidental artistic creativeness" to them. Make lemonade out of lemons!!

Some views of Rock of Cashel leave a surreal impression.

Post processing in Photoshop involved a combination of tone mapping and the Orton effect (= multiplying a sharply focused and an out-of-focus copy of the same image).

Pentax Mz-S with Sima Soft Focus 100mm f2 @ f2. Shot on Arista Ultra 200 (expired 2015) metered at ISO 160. Developed in DK50 stock, 5 minutes @ 21C.

The liter of DK 50 had been mixed up in April, 2023, and had already processed 10 rolls of film - but it still had some kick left. Just picked an arbitrary development time and accepted the developer at the temp it was on the shelf.
