Post processing in Photoshop involved a combination of tone mapping and the Orton effect (= multiplying a sharply focused and an out-of-focus copy of the same image).

The island of Porto Santo really is a gift that keeps on giving. That morning, it gave me a new way to appreciate the sunrise — a kind of impressionist vision of the sky reflected on a mirror of wet sand beneath my feet. It just goes to show that sometimes you can find a beautiful moment of stillness if you dare to look away from the most obvious places. On that note, see you next time, Porto Santo! I hope to return soon and rediscover you once again :)

A ilha de Porto Santo é realmente um presente que nunca acaba. Naquela manhã, proporcionou-me uma nova forma de apreciar o nascer do sol — uma espécie de visão impressionista do céu refletido num espelho de areia molhada sob os meus pés. Isto só demonstra que, por vezes, podemos encontrar um belo momento de tranquilidade se ousarmos desviar o olhar dos locais mais óbvios. E assim, até à próxima, Porto Santo!
