This was the greeter at Deer Lake, a Great Blue Heron who didn't seem that impressed with the cold and snow.

On Saturday late afternoon we went to see St Mary's Cathedral near Japantown in San Francisco. A service was in session, we were asked to wait until it finished. The church has beautiful stained glass windows. After the congregation left I took this photo in the center aisle facing back from a low point of view to catch the reflections on the floor.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures.

I don't normally post camera photos but I am so impressed by this little machine. The tooling and machining is meticulous and it has a reassuring all metal heft to it. It has a linked EV system which is a total nuisance but it is quite easy to disassemble the lens and unlock the mechanism.
This is a Ruddy Duck getting ready for mating season. You can tell because he's put on his bright blue lipstick and his feathers are a deep ruddy brown. I'm always impressed with that bright blue bill they don for the mating season.
Am 3.Mai 2023 stand ich dann weiter auf dem Steingassenturm in Oberwesel und beobachtete den Betrieb auf beiden Rheinseiten:
Das Kreuzfahrtschiff River Impress hatte auch weiter in Oberwesel angelegt und es wurde richtig spannend:
Zunächst einmal war der voll beladene Containerzug DGS 40258 von SBB Cargo international aus Novara Boschetto in Italien nach Rotterdam Waalhaven Zuid in den Niederlanden im Zulauf auf Oberwesel.
Dieser Verkehr wurde zuvor von DB Cargo gefahren und von SBB Cargo international übernommen.
Zuglok war die schöne und saubere SIEAG 193 533 (Werbelok Alppiercer 2). Das war schon echt super.
Und ich hatte Glück: Die Goethe, der historische Schaufelraddampfer der Köln-Düsseldorfer Deutsche Rheinschiffahrt, hatte auch gerade in Oberwesel abgelegt!
Bingo!
Die Sehenswürdigkeiten im Bild:
Rechts die Muter-Rosa Kapelle und der Hospitalgassenturm und dahinter liegend zu sehen der Haagsturm oder Roter Turm und links davon die Burg Gutenfels in Kaub.
Rechts zu sehen sind auch die Liebfrauenkirche und die Burg Schönburg; heute ein Hotel.

Spent the weekend at an isolated cabin near Halifax, Virginia and ran into this guy. He was obviously not impressed with me ;-).

I saw some articles lately about Taylor Swift and Crystal Bowersox. I am impressed that they have courage to tell their stories fearlessly, shamelessly. They are queens!
Again, here is my road to home.. it is covered with snow here. I'm glad that I didn't try to make it up that hill before the roads were cleared.
The driver and second man look rather unimpressed as i shoot a few frames their way. They were driving a Sri Lankan M5b loco built in Japan but with a British Paxman Valenta HST engine in it.
They were assembling a freight working in Polgahawela yards.
The build date of 1979 is starting to show through in the paint and bodywork, the driver is also showing a few wrinkles in keeping with the loco.
Résineux caducs , les mélèzes sont omniprésents sur les montagnes d'Alpes du Sud . Saint Véran est face à un masif couvert de mélézes . C'est la premiere fois que j'utilise le procédé de bouger vertical avec vitesse lente ; mais le resultat correspond bien à l'impression que j'ai ressenti sur le terrain .
