Astronauts from five space agencies around the world take part in ESA’s CAVES training course– Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising human behaviour and performance Skills.

The three-week course prepares astronauts to work safely and effectively in multicultural teams in an environment where safety is critical.

As they explore caves they encounter caverns, underground lakes and strange microscopic life. They test new technology and conduct science – just as if they were living on the International Space Station.

The six astronauts have to rely on their own skills, teamwork and ground control to achieve their mission goals – the course is designed to foster effective communication, decision-making, problem-solving, leadership and team dynamics.

A while back a group of photographers were selected to test some of the experimental new film from The Impossible Project. I was honored to be one of them. Here are a few of my shots from those packs. Keep in mind, this is not the final film, only test batches.

I'm really happy this day has arrived. It's been a long time since Dave Bias and I started Save Polaroid and now he and his girlfriend Anne Bowerman work for Impossible. I'm so happy for them and for the photographers who will get to continue to use instant film. But I'm especially happy for those who have never used it but now can because the impossible was achieved.

Impossible Project Black and Green Duochrome with SX70

This is an older photo. It was shot in impossible conditions. Bright sun behind the eagle flying into the next. Totally washed out sky, drastically underexposed subject.

I never would have considered trying to use this shot...it was way outside of acceptable.

So as a challenge I wanted to see if, with lots of PS manipulation, I could get a marginally acceptable image. Spent more than an hour on this one...and this was the result. I'm sure someone else could have done more and better, but at my level of PS expertise, this is it.

At least I'm not totally embarassed to show a Bald Eagle photo which otherwise was destined for the trash heap.

The tiniest nest I've ever made, snuggled into a doll-sized teacup. The cup itself is less than 2" across. The nest is about .75" across and holds two tiny freshwater pearls.

I really need to make myself one of these for my holiday tree. I'm tempted to keep this one in fact.

Writing a new Chapter in the History of Photography - IMPOSSIBLE INSTANT FILM (for Polaroid cameras)

New York City, March 22, 2010.

After 17 months of research and development, The Impossible Project announced that it succeeded in its task of re-producing a new analog Instant Film for traditional Polaroid cameras.

Containing more than 30 newly developed components, Impossible today introduced a new, monochrome Instant Film - the PX 100 and PX 600 Silver Shade - and is therewith saving millions of perfectly functioning Polaroid cameras from becoming obsolete (as Polaroid discontinued its instant film

production early in 2008).

Impossible has beyond that started collaborations with international photographers,

who were invited to work with the new film material and therewith created a base

for The Impossible Collection – a growing archive of contemporary Instant Photography

artworks. Furthermore, the supporters of The Impossible Project recently

placed a binding offer to purchase the International Polaroid Collection, located

in the Musée de l‘Elysée, Lausanne. Impossible‘s intention is not only to preserve

and protect this unique collection from being sold in parts, but also to re-open and

expand it by providing the new Impossible film materials to contemporary artists.

A grand Impossible Project‘s Space, hosting a shop as well as a gallery, will open on

April 30, 2010 at 425 Broadway in New York City – celebrating the magic and the

bright future that analog Instant Photography is now facing.

PX 100 and PX 600 Films will be available online at www.the-impossible-project.com

in a limited, First Flush Edition from Thursday, March 25th onwards, and shortly

thereafter at selected premium retail partners all over the world.

In summer 2010, Impossible plans to present its first PX Color Film.

I thought i'd reshare the 5 images from a recent art challenge as I found it a good opportunity to take stock of things. Inevitably my first image has to be one of ‪water‬. Since starting to photograph water in detail and often in the abstract in 2012, it has taken me on a journey that I could not have anticipated. I’m still travelling. Through it I have found artistic focus, made new friends, and ventured in new directions. At first I tended to avoid reflections as they felt a little too obvious. But as with everything, it is a case of how closely you look and what you choose to see.
