This shot of the Canvasback Duck was from my trip to NV last January. I had the hardest time shooting this guy. I sitll don't think I got him right :( But he sure was a handsome. His mate was nearby but being that it was hard to shoot the one, it was impossible getting the pair right.
Yah, I know ... twice in a row. I'm on a roll right now ... lol
When the view is so fantastic, one just CAN'T drive on. Photo stops are needed every 5 minutes, or less. The only reason why we reached our destination (and were therefore able to sleep in beds) is because it got dark. Then we could drive on!

The Wisconsin and Southern E9s bring the Circus Train from Baraboo through Slinger, Wisconsin back in 2000.
The Circus train from Baraboo to Milwaukee ceased its annual run over the Wissor and WC shortly afterward, allowing this view to be another one of those 'never again' shots.
Plus, I recently scoped out this shot for a southbound Wissor freight and the overgrowth of the trees have rendered this a now-impossible view as well.
These two rocks have been balanced like this for as long as I can remember. I like the way they work together to stay balanced.
Another Iron Forge build. I've used the flag piece 2 times for both sides of the sneakers. Everything is LEGO, even the stickers were cut out from an unused stickers sheet.

Okay... so this is without any doubt... the most difficult panorama that I've ever managed to put together!
Why was it so difficult? Well... capturing the six images that make up this pano was fairly easy. I just had to make sure that all the images were exposed exactly the same (without clipping highlights or shadows)... and that I had sufficient overlap between the images... and hey presto... job done!
But as I said... shooting the images was the easy bit... the difficult bit was joining them all together afterwards!
When I exposed the RAW file for the left-hand image (with the sun in it)... then the right hand image was almost completely black. And when I exposed for the mountain... then the sun image was completely blown!
And when I made two different exposures from each RAW file and blended them together before stitching... then the exposures of water and sky did not match up at all!
Then... when I tried to stitch a single set of unblended images... the exposure of the water still did not match up perfectly!? WTF?? Surely all the exposures should be exactly the same if I shoot them with exactly the same camera settings!?
Duh Paul... not when the "Active D-lighting" feature on your camera is set to high!!
This feature manipulates the pixel data in the RAW file to best represent the exposure difference between really dark and really light pixels in your image... which is usually a good thing... until I realised that it was this camera setting that was screwing with the exposures of my pano-images! Grr!!
Has anyone reading this experienced a similar problem... or any other good reasons to turn OFF the D-lighting feature on the D800? If so... then I'd love to hear from you.
So how did I finally manage to stitch everything together? First I very careful exposure-blended each image using countless luminosity masks... then I pasted all six images as layers into one large canvas... then carefully arranged and aligned them into their correct position (using a few tricks I've picked up over the years)... then I painstakingly adjusted the exposures of the sky and sea in each image so that they all matched up... and then I masked away the hard edges between the layers to blend them together seamlessly.
So why did I bother to spend all that time (+- 8 hours) and effort to stitch this panorama entirely by hand? Hah hah... because NO pano-stitching software that I tried could manage it!!
