Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Sindh chapter has implemented another Clean Drinking Water Project (Community Hand Pump) at Village Kalyan Moora, District Tharparkar. Around 20 families living in the locality are expected to benefit from this project daily.

This session will feature the experiences from local governments working with national government agencies and international technical capacity-building institutions on issues including city-city cooperation, capacity building and low-carbon infrastructure or green city development.

The session participants will be informed on the collaborative structures, partnership models, and lessons learned from implemented cooperative programs/projects at the local and national level which have proved successful in delivering tangible outcomes for local sustainability.

In sharing experiences on how to effectively work with national government and international capacity-building partners, this session sets out to strengthen local efforts to secure collaboration from national and international partners.

Winter storm event today! Implements stand ready for their job. It is still snowing now. .

Last week Louisville had a snow event. Salt/Plow trucks waited under viaducts for hours for the snow to start!!! Louisville is on top of this storm!!! However, at least one of those drivers passed the time by drinking. He must have been plowing crooked because he was caught!!! Maybe he was borrowed from the City's recreation department??? LOL

Implemented by UNDP, the RFS Nigeria project aims to foster sustainability and resilience for food security in Northern Nigeria through addressing key environmental and socioeconomic drivers of food insecurity.

Harrow-on-the-Hill Underground Station, 11 May 2024. The original station was opened by the Metropolitan Railway (MR) in August 1880 as Harrow, but was renamed Harrow-on-the-Hill in June 1894. It was the terminus of the MR’s extension from Kilburn & Brondesbury (now Kilburn) and was a substantial building.

In May 1885 Harrow became a through station when the MR extended its line northwards to Pinner (and later to Amersham and well beyond) and in July 1904 westwards to Uxbridge (by means of the Harrow & Uxbridge Railway, soon taken over by the MR). The Great Central’s London Extension served an expanded station in March 1899 and today it is served by the successor Chiltern Railways.

On the formation of the London Passenger Transport Board in 1933, it was decided to rebuild the station and a very grand scheme was designed which would have resulted in the largest suburban passenger interchange station in London serving the Metropolitan Line and LNER with a bus station attached. The scheme was designed by Charles Holden, consultant architect to the LPTB, in European Moderne style.

However, Holden’s original plans were seriously compromised by the need to economise and by a severe shortage of building materials which resulted in a very much reduced scheme being implemented; part of the new station (including the south entrance) was completed in 1939 with the remainder (including the north entrance) in January 1943.

In the 1980’s an office block with retail units on the ground floor and a bus station resulted in some of the station buildings being demolished, including the impressive north entrance, although much survives, including the south entrance.

While visiting a family at Sonafluca village, several household implements were on display having been found in their fields while digging. We were told they were about 1500BC in age. (I think the iron isn't quite that old!) Several items were also on display at the local school we visited.
