Great Northern Diver (Gavia immer) by Mike Barth

Found primarily on freshwater lakes and ponds during the breeding season, particularly in North America, Greenland, and Iceland.

During winter, they migrate to coastal marine environments along the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and occasionally large inland water bodies.

Diving: They are exceptional divers, often plunging to great depths to catch fish, their primary diet.

Calls: Known for their eerie, wailing calls, which are a quintessential sound of wilderness in their breeding territories.

Flight: They have a laborious takeoff, needing a long "runway" of water to build up the speed required for flight.

Nochmals eine Fahrt durch den dicken Nebel. Diesmal sogar wieder mit angefrorenem Nieselregen auf der Brille. Aber es gibt vielleicht doch eine Hoffnung, dass die Kältewelle bald vorbei sein wird: Die Landwirte haben begonnen, ihre Jauche auf die gefrorenen Wiesen auszutragen. !?
