Always delighted to see these birds out on the lake, though it's really tough to steady the canoe while trying to get shots at the same time. Oh...and then there's the constant breeze that keeps spinning you around.
Common Loon (Gavia immer) briefly pops up to the surface for air near my kayak. The Common Loon swims underwater to catch fish, propelling itself with its feet. It swallows most of its prey underwater. When feeding, they often stay very low in the water and only surface for a few seconds, then dive again. Taken in Vilas County, Wisconsin in early June, 2016.

Als der Bahnhof Wilferdingen-Singen gebaut wurde, lag er zwischen den beiden namensgebenden Orten und erhielt daher diesen Doppelnamen. Diese beiden Orte wurden in den 70ern aber zur Gemeinde Remchingen zusammengelegt. Der Bahnhof wurde trotzdem nicht umbenannt, obwohl der neue Name kürzer und einfacher ist und zudem Verwechslungen mit Orten mit ähnlichen Namen ausgeschlossen hätten werden können.
Immer wieder schön dieser R8 .. ich wollte keinen haben, aber ich finde ihn sehr ästhetisch.

Female Common Loon (Gavia immer) returns to the nest to tend her newly hatched chick and egg after assisting her mate defend their territory against intruders. This was my first time seeing a Loon chick on the nest. They typically leave within a few hours of the second egg's hatching. By later that afternoon both chicks were riding on their parents back. This was the earliest recorded hatching on the lake. Taken at 8:20 AM in Lincoln County, Wisconsin on May 31, 2015.
