You won't find this forest on any tourist information map or a National Park Map as it's a forest managed for logging.

This forest is one of England's biggest managed forests and spans several miles in all directions, there's no road, no foot path, no bridleways, no car parks, no toilets, nothing, just miles and miles of dense forest, this picture was taken from roughly the middle of the forest.

I love long exposures, everything to do with night time, the dark, sunrise and sunset.

I like to take pictures mainly at night , sometimes during the day and in dull and fading light and I will sometimes display the time and date the picture was taken too.

I tend to take pictures of Light trails, Motorway traffic, Street lights, Buildings, Landscapes, Bokeh, Night bokeh and Hexagonal Night Bokeh in England.

All of my pictures are 100% natural and untouched in every way without ever been Photo shopped or altered or messed about with in anyway whatsoever, No multi layered photography, No HDR's and No image manipulation of any kind, all of my pictures look just the way they did when I saw them at the time of taking and I'm VERY PROUD of that.

I don't do any photo processing at all, I don't even own any photo software.

All of my starbursts are all 100% natural without using any filters or anything else, as is all my bokeh, night bokeh and hexagonal night bokeh, its all natural, no funny gimmicks at all.

I don't do anything with my pictures apart from take them and then upload them , 99.99999% of my pictures don't even get cropped , they are all 100% natural and untouched and then uploaded.

60021 Penyghent is at the head of a train of discharged biomass hoppers on Unloading Line A at Drax Power Station. The first wagon is the gold one, painted to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the power station in 2024.

Taken during a Northern Diesel Photo Charters event organised by Chris Gee, raising money for the Martin House Children's Hospice.

60021 had arrived at Drax at the head of 6E10 10.30 from Liverpool Biomass Terminal, with 69012 on the back from Tuebrook Sidings. It returned to Liverpool the following day as a VSTP 6M51 at 11.51 from Drax.

This was the fourth and final location for the evening. The first shots had the Leyland Atlantean bus parked alongside but, after that was moved further along the road, I tried a few different angles. Unfortunately, when you stood wider, it was very difficult to avoid a bright floodlight dominating the scene and causing major flare - including white streaks - in the top right of the image.

Manipulation notes: A combination of the gathering mist and the bright floodlights meant there was lots of flare in the sky, and it didn't add to the atmosphere. This is a combination of two frames: the background is the frame I took with the lowest exposure, while I took the train and the foreground (road, grass verges, and the track) from a frame where the train was exposed roughly correctly. However, the only way to remove the flare was to completely darken the sky and effectively paint over the white streaks.

31452 stands at Embsay station on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway at the head of a short ballast train formed of three "Dogfish" and two "Grampus" wagons. Taken during a Northern Diesel Photo Charters event organised by Chris Gee.

31452 is owned by Eastern Rail Services (based at Great Yarmouth) and had been visiting the railway for a filming contract.

I initially had difficulty getting a sharp image from here, and at first thought the footbridge was vibrating - but it actually turned out the autofocus was still turned off on my camera, and I'd not realised because it's much quieter on this camera than on my old! There was, however, the risk of camera movement when someone moved around on the span itself (which has a wooden deck - at the top of the steps it's concrete), and you really needed to stand on the span if you wanted to lose the sign above the bottom of the steps from the corner of the image.

Manipulation notes: cab interior from a different frame (with a lower exposure) has replaced the original on this frame (which was slightly too bright). I've also cloned out some metalwork associated with the aforementioned sign from the bottom left-hand corner.

2-2-2025: Revised version uploaded, with the colour temperature of the loco marker lights reduced (they had been very orange!).

black-and-white or shades of sepia. Color photography was originally rare and expensive, and again often less than true to life. Color photography became more common in the middle of the 20th century, and has become even more common since. Black-and-white remains a niche market for photographers who use the medium for artistic purposes. This can take the form of black and white film or digital conversion to grayscale, with optional image manipulation to enhance the results. For amateur use, certain companies such as Kodak manufacture black-and-white disposable cameras. Also, certain films are produced today which give black and white images using the ubiquitous C41 color process.

Not really but it is how I feel when I watch the news sometimes. The recent riots in England, sparked by nefarious, anti-immigration, bad actors of Right-Wing parties have shown how widespread Disinformation is on social media platforms like X (twitter). Watch Media Watch for the full discussion on the crap that was broadcast there as well as the rubbish shown on Channel 7 here in Melbourne.

www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/episodes/southport/104186252.

Spreading disinformation is rife but there are people who act on this crap, causing real societal problems. We ignore it at our peril.

For those interested in the photo it was taken underneath a bridge where the waters reflected the pillars and concrete. A little bit of overlay manipulation to give a more interesting effect.

These self flying kites came into view out of nowhere, and I quickly took this picture. Soon afterward they were gone.

And the horrible Flickr map program shows it in the wrong place. It should be in Salisbury Beach not Plum Island. If your GPS was as bad as the Flickr map program you'd never get anywhere.

A Digital Painting style of image manipulation. My own. No commercial program. The essence of light, Neo-Impressionism. In a dry-brush technique.

This image prepared specifically for The Dictionary Of Image Group. HOT SPOTS - n., pl. The popular, trendy places to see and be seen. Photographically, those areas burned out of recognition by overpowering light sources.

Both need attention sometime soon.

Just a bit of image manipulation fun.

104/365 Image Manipulation Project

Image manipulated from one of my original paintings.

While awaiting any appearance by the herons/egrets on the lake, today, I whiled my time framing up dragonflies against the bright highlights of the sunlit lake. I liked this view due to the repeated vegetation shapes at left and right, and their evocation of Indonesian shadow puppets.

You Can't Push the Bokeh

.. or maybe you can.. ;-)

I used a technique outlined by Dan Margulis in his book on using the Lab Color mode in Photoshop CS2 to drive the colors to smoother cleaner richer extremes, then pull them back from the brink, creating dramatic rich colors.

LAB color isn't a photoshop exclusive, and it's Quite possible that other programs can pull this off easily.. all that was required was layers and curves, after converting to LAB color mode from RGB mode, to get these colors..

Here's a review of the book:

Just spent a few hours enjoying making something that the raw materials came from a day in the lakes several weeks ago. Oh how I enjoy messing around with modern tools! The lakes at their best, with the langdales in the distance!
