Nibbles was confiscated from a home breeder last spring. “He was so traumatized by his sudden change of circumstances that he jumped out of the window at his foster home and was missing for three weeks in the woods of Vermont,” says his foster mom, Debbie. “He was trapped by an animal-control officer 30 miles from the home he fled, heading in the direction of his original home.”
Debbie says that “Nibs” is “playful, inquisitive and eager to learn new tricks. I like Nibbles because he has a big dog attitude in a 12-pound dog body. I hope we can find an awesome forever home for him where he will get the adoration he deserves.”
Maxwell Smalls, aka PeePow, is about a year and a half old. “This guy is maybe 7 pounds soaking wet, but he thinks he is about 70 pounds,” says his dog mom, Sandi. “I tell people that he isn't small, he's concentrated.” Maxwell Smalls tries to protect Sandi “with his big boy bark. He is also unlicensed face, ears and nose washer – he tries to help out when he can.”
Caicos is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever “who takes her job seriously,” says her dog mom, Diane. This picture was taken at Island Beach State Park in New Jersey. “She will crash through waves and bodysurf back to return her stick to us. She will do this tremendous feat for hours at a time. We have to hide the stick and make her sit to take breaks. She has fans at the beach, and strangers take pictures of her. She loves people and other dogs.”
Gowen is a 6-year-old purebred American Cocker Spaniel. “Hope you can see his beautiful, well kept (by himself), pinkish tummy!” says his dog mom, Betty Anne.
Mambo is an 11-year-old “Poohshihtz” (Poodle-Shih Tzu mix). “Our kids say Mambo stands for Mama's Boy because he and I love each other so much,” says his dog mom, Cissy. “He is so spry for his age, no one can believe he's 11. When he and his Dachshund little bro chase squirrels or rabbits in the yard, he keeps right up. “
Meggy is a 9-year-old Toy Poodle. “She is always happy, always a great and loyal friend, and always there for me,” says her dog mom, Carla. “She showed me what means to love and to be loved unconditionally.
Duke is a golden Yorkie. “He just loves lying belly up,” says Stephan, his dog dad. “With him in this picture is Miley, a Min Pin, and Wambi, another Yorkie.”
Besides snoozing, 11-year-old Beau, a yellow Lab-Jack Russell mix, loves to play Frisbee, hide-and-seek and soccer. “Beau is smart, playful, cuddly and doesn't seem to age!” said his pet parent, Kelly. ”He's the ‘puppy-for-life’ I prayed for my whole life.”
Kelly said Beau has a unique vocabulary. “We constantly have to spell out words around the house because he is so smart. Even now, he's catching on to ‘Wanna go for a W-A-L-K?’”
Nemesis (right) and her 8-week-old puppy were trotting down the street when their pet parent Shay rescued them in 2004. Shay found a great home for the puppy, and fostered Nemmi while the Pit Bull had some parasites cleared up. “During that time I fell in love,” Shay says. “She has this thing where she holds down smaller critters, dogs and cats alike, and nibbles (grooms) them up and down with her little front teeth. It is so cute to watch.” While her cats will only put up with it for a short period of time, Shay says her hound dog “will let her do it forever.”
Hershey is a 5-year-old chocolate Lab-Coonhound mix. “She loves to go outside and play fetch with a big stick,” said Jeff and Marisa, her pet parents. “When we're not throwing the stick to play fetch she is dragging it around the sand box and burying it and then digging it up so she can bury it again. She loves to go for long walks and LOVES to swim.”
Fifi is a 6-year-old Poodle-Maltese mix. “She is the most caring, affectionate dog you will ever meet,” says Rebecca, her dog mom. “I haven't met any person who has met Fifi who does not fall in love with her. No worries about her ever being a 'bad' dog, she is playful, fun, caring, loyal, beautiful and definitely one of a kind!”
Gracie, an Australian Shepherd-Jack Russell Terrier mix, is 6 years old. “I call her my blue-eyed, brown-eyed, lopped-ear dog!” says Vickie, her dog mom. “She and her brother, Finley, blessed our lives when we adopted them five years ago from a no-kill shelter. Gracie was left on a doorstep before her eyes were even opened. Maybe if her so-called owners had seen her beautiful eyes, they might have fallen in love with her like my husband and I did. She is the sweetest and most loving dog we have ever owned. She gets lots of attention from her unique eyes when we take her on walks.”
