Hiking up through the beautiful forest to Banner Ridge near Lowman, Idaho.

It was my first ATV trip out yesterday for this season and I wasn't disappointed in what I found.

A Common Redpoll foraging near Mountain Home, Idaho.

We didn't let the rain stop us from getting out and enjoying the warmer temps in North Idaho. We looked for wild mushrooms and I had to stop and take pictures of course!

I spent some time the other evening trying to get a few good pictures of these beautiful little birds. They are so fast and a bit camera shy ;-)

We went out to find some new places to explore on our ATV and I must say, the weather was perfect!

Taken while at Craters Of A Moon National Park in Idaho several weeks ago. I refrained from editing this one until recently because I didn’t feel like there wasn’t much of a story or message to it – it was just a nice photo and honestly, I don’t care for nice photos.

I’ve been going really ‘matte’ lately on a few of my edits- this one included- and I hope I don’t look back on these color grading decisions in a few weeks and think, “the fuk?”. But I’m really trying it to simplify the mountain photos and a 2D look without the photo losing its photo-realism (I guess you would call it) is the result of that. Just a ton of compression, like a radio station.

We took a little drive out above Carlin Bay on lake Coeur d'Alene the other evening. With all of the fires going on in the area, the sun had a beautiful haze over it as it went down.

The sun breaks over a ridge in the Boise National Forest, Idaho, Somewhere, morning is happening.

Taking the back roads this weekend to find new and interesting places to explore. I loved this old boat abandoned along the river!

This was one of those mornings when I asked myself why I got up so early for nothing, then I get lucky with the light, and everything works out in the end. I often drive by this old place during my long drives across Idaho, and I always thought it would be a cool place to shoot. I can mark this off of my to do list now :-)

This is a very soft, esthetically pleasing photo. Those clouds wisp with little intention. The water, heavy & grounded. But there is an uneasiness. A slight feeling of constraint. For zillions of years we’ve used light as a navigational tool – the moon, the sun, the stars - So naturally our eyes gravitate towards light. We also interpret light as safety, an escape route. When you look at this photo, your eyes naturally go to the brightest part of the image where the mountain hits the sky – then your eyes move to the brightest part of the water, where it meets land. Your eyes naturally ping-pong these 2 locations with slight glances at the dark area in the center. The dark area acts as a barricade, you naturally want to avoid it, but you can’t. While your eyes naturally go towards the light, you need to find a breech in the barricade to escape – to feel that sense of freedom – to remove the uneasiness of constraint. You see the light separating the two landmasses and feel a bit of relief– maybe you can go that way. But I think you should rest. You don’t have to do everything today.

We had a beautiful weekend adventure up the Coeur d'Alene river these last few days. We have camped in this area several times, but this is the first time we discovered this beautiful creek.

I stopped by one of my favorite little streams around Lake Coeur d'Alene a this last weekend. I was amazed to see such a huge flow of water already in only February. If I didn't know better, I would swear it was April around here. We have had such a mild winter.

nothing to say... just another pano

This could possibly be one of my new favorite spots to explore in Northern Idaho. It was quite a trek back into the woods to find it, but it did not disappoint once we found it.

When nectar is in short supply or unavailable, bees draw on their honey stores in the hive. During these times, it is important to frequently monitor the amount of honey in the hive because when it has all gone, the colony will starve. Starvation can be prevented by moving bees to an area where plants are yielding nectar or by feeding them white table sugar. There are differing views about the correct amount of sugar in syrup. Some beekeepers prefer a ratio of one part of sugar to one part of water, measured by weight (known as 1:1).

I took a little road trip over Moon Pass this afternoon. I not only found fall colors, but I also ran into snow. I'm not ready for winter yet! Just give me fall colors any day.

Catching the sunset before winter of 2016

I love this place so much! I have photographed this stream a few times over the past few years, and it's beautiful every time I see it.

I set out today to get away from the noisy city, stress and the everyday grind. I set my sights on Canyon Creek in the Silver Valley. I wasn't disappointed at any of my new finds. I even found some of the biggest huckleberries I've ever seen!

We took a drive up to some new places we haven't been in about 20 years today. I was delighted to find plenty of beautiful things to photograph AND some snow to add to it.

I have to admit, I haven't been out to take pictures in the mountains since winter. I am so happy to be back out now that it's officially the first day of summer!

We saw a bit of snow today and it is always a really lovely sight to see it collect on the pampas grass.

Fall is slowly making it's way into the forest. We took an ATV ride yesterday and the colors are changing. However, no matter what time of year, this area is always beautiful.
