Our Daily Challenge: Shoes

I bought these sandals online as they were so cute. When they arrived, I was so disappointed to find that they were tight. I have any extremely high arch (think Barbie’s foot). I was ready to send them back when Tom reminded me that I had my Nana’s shoe stretcher. I have been stretching for a week fine tuning the fit. It’s working!

I spied this display of Guy Fawkes' masks set up for sale in the clearance corner at the Party City store in Willets Point. They look like they're getting ready to revolt. The orange sign underneath is confusing, because there is a very common misuse of the phrase "In lieu of," which actually means "instead of," but the writer probably thought meant "because of." Enough cause for a grammar revolt! -- May 5, 2021

With some cirrostratus clouds and the help of a polarizing filter, I was able to accurately capture this large atmospheric optical display during late afternoon.

Blakeney high tide - the wardens had put cones out to limit the parking maybe? This is the National Trust car park at Blakeney Quay in Norfolk which regularly floods.

It could of course be a clever person who knew exactly how high the tide was going to be and confidently parked here.

However the sea water went up to the cills at the peak so may be wet carpet inside....

During today's holiday, we have lots to be grateful for. When the civilized world seems ugly and chaotic, take comfort in nature's beauty and simplicity.

Picture of the Day x 2

It was actually darker than this iPhone night shot makes it appear, although it was only 1 1/2 hours after sundown. The actual moon is above, outside the frame, but I couldn't bring the light in this down any darker without losing too many details. What drew me to take this shot int he first place was the moonlight on the slate tile roof. I was also amazed that so many stars were visible, which isn't usual. Spectacular Sunset Sky Spans Valuable Vessels' Vivid Venue, Yearning Yachtsmen's Yachting Yarns, Fun Florida Fabulous Fort (Lauderdale Lovers' Lively Luscious Truly Tempting Tall Tales) - IMRAN™

All my life I have loved water, boats, sunsets, and stories of the sea. Even though there were no old men of the seas and gone days, or even young ladies of the waterways or coming nights, to be seen on any of vessels when I alighted on the scene, I could only imagine the stories the seamen, and yachtsmen, yearned to weave, and the fairy tales their seafaring companion angels and sea goddesses could tell.

This stunning new memory of a magical moment, was also full of the memories, and future promises, of places visited, people loved, (water)marks left, and intricate intertwined sinewy bonds made and to be made onboard when I had two vessels, a boat and a yacht, and two bold beloved willing vassals, there, both of which, and both of whom, I would often take past this very spot, and the points of no returns, a decade ago. And I would always keep coming back for more, as would they, the ones in the past and the ones ready to come soon.

A calm scene like this is what one needs in these troubling times.

The Third German Shepherd I Do NOT Have - IMRAN™

My seven-months old German Shepherd puppy, K2, and the always loving and playful older German Shepherd Dog Kennedy had been at the beach with me during one of our walks at the end of last year. While there, we had run into a lady house-sitting for one of the great nearby neighbors in my community.

She was walking her daughter's brand new German Shepherd puppy there as well. My dogs were literally the first dogs the puppy had ever met after being taken to her new home some days prior. The videos of that day are the cutest to watch, and I have to remember to post them sometime.

At the beach, the puppy basically adopted me as her owner. I joked with the lady that since she did not have any papers on her, and the puppy seemed more at home with me, I would just let her walk home with us as she was doing without any coaching or cajoling.

Later, that same weekend, as my dogs and I were out walking again, we ran into the lady and her puppy again. As you can see the puppy clearly decided that she was my dog.

I would have loved taking her as my dog but the community rules, rightfully, only allow two of the same species under one roof. If anyone has two horses I can adopt, maybe I can leverage those as an excuse to get approval for a third GSD! Just kidding!

I just thought the three happy shepherds of varying ages and different personalities, all showing what an incredible breed they are, would make you smile.

A Dutch tilt is a camera shot in which the camera angle is deliberately slanted to one side. This can be used for dramatic effect and helps portray unease, disorientation, frantic or desperate action, intoxication, madness, etc.

It's also known as Dutch angle, German angle, oblique angle, canted angle and even the Batman angle.

The Dutch tilt was used a lot in German films of the 1930s and 1940s. This is where the name German angle came from. The Dutch term is said to have been a mistranslation of the German Deutsch.

A trip to Kew Gardens and a curious time spent enjoying The Hive which until you see the construction you will be puzzled by the results !!

You spent a lot of time on your back on the floor taking shots - need I say more.

Golden hour (in black and white) with a clinker-built, piner's punt lying in Hogarth Creek, Strahan, Tasmania.

The creek flows into Macquarie Harbour - a substantial body of water on Tasmania's west coast.

The Harbour, and later Strahan, was the centre of Huon Pine harvesting in Tasmania's recent past as penal colony and frontier town. Dozens of these punts once carried piners up and down the Harbour and the Gordon River in timber-getting activities. Those days are gone and only a few punts remain. Strahan is now a fishing and tourist town - large ferries take thousands of people/year up the rivers to goggle at the rainforest.

There are also hidden caves along the rivers that flow into the harbour that contain evidence of human habitation in excess of 40,000 years...

Continuing Creative Cold Colorful Cocktail Concoctions: IMRANtini Virgin Melangorapilla 3D - IMRAN™

Continuing the series.... I don’t cook. Never have. Never will. But I can experiment. Continuing satisfying my need for virgin frozen drinks, here’s yet another one in 3D. The solid color edge with the slushy pink confuses the FB 3D algorithm. Golden mango, burgundy grapes, pink grapefruit, lime, red watermelon. Normally, when these clouds form just after sunrise, they are altocumulus. Well this morning they are the higher variety (cirrocumulus).

It is a medium-sized tropical tree in the family Sapindaceae. The name also refers to the edible fruit produced by this tree. It is native to Southeast Asia. The fruit is closely related to other edible tropical fruits, such as, the lychee, longan, pulasan, and mamoncillo. Wikipedia.

No I didn’t buy these and I have no idea how they taste. Just something new in the fruit section at my grocery store.

The Malverne Theater is an old-fashioned, "mom and pop" theater independently owned and managed by Henry and Anne Stampfel, with 5 screens specializing in independent and foreign films. The best films that open in Manhattan are at Malverne (and the Kew Gardens Cinema in Queens) a week later, at local prices and parking. One of my favorite escape places. One photo a day.
