Huntsman spider. (Sparassidae, formerly Heteropodidae). Also known as giant crab spiders, wood spiders, and rain spiders. They are not dangerous although they will bite if handled. They are nocturnal and excellent climbers. They do not build webs, but hunt and eat insects and spiders smaller than themselves. The largest spiders in this family, up to 12 inches across, are found in Asia. The ones in Guatemala reach up to 6 inches across. This one is about 4 inches across. The locals here call them "tarantulas" which they are not. We also have tru tarantulas but locally those are called "araña de caballo".

If someone knows the exact genus and species of this one, please let me know.

I first noticed this Huntsman 8 days ago Since then it's been getting skinnier and also appears to have lost another leg (it had 7 when first spotted, now it has 6). I hope it's getting enough food.

Australian Huntsman spiders belong to the Family Sparassidae (formerly Heteropodidae) and are famed as being the hairy so-called 'tarantulas' on house walls that terrify people by scuttling out from behind curtains.

Just a wee lil spider this morning at Sheps Mound, to which my mate just picked up and moved on (with a Magpie on watch for breakfast)...

Hunter Huntsman hunts down someone in the home garden

OK this is not funny. Only 3 weeks ago I had one in my mailbox, now this one in my kitchen. My husband put a teaspoon next to it so you can see the size.

The kind of card that got McGill into trouble with the 'decency police' in the 1950s. Five shops were raided in a single day in 1953 in Ryde, Isle of Wight, and over 5,000 cards were seized. A year later, McGill faced charges under the Obscene Publications Act 1857 and was fined £50 at Lincoln Magistrates Court. Almost unbelievable nowadays... (New Comics Series 1806)

Found this spider today crawling up the wall in my living room, I pretty sure its a Huntsman spider because they are very common around here, Its was a small Huntsman, only around 6mm in body length but the leg span was about 12mm, the ones I usually see are a lot bigger, but I have never been game to photograph the bigger ones, they are too quick.

About 9 months ago I had a huntsman living in my flat for about a week. It didn't find enough food.

Today I was vacuuming in my bedroom and Dogbert alerted me to the presence of this little fella. Tried to move it outside but it was too quick - creeping nimbly behind my entertainment unit. I guess it just condemned itself to the same fate as the last guy...
