A hazy view from the dolerite crags of South Sister (833m) in the Nicholas Range toward the Huntsmans Cap (710m). North East Tasmania.

Leica Q2 Monochrom, Summilux 28mm f/1.7, 1/800th sec at f/10, ISO 200.

Didn't expect much from this shot given the Leica's apparent hard-light-photophobia but it worked well for a change.

Attempting macro with a zoom lens with imperfect results.... but that bokeh!?!? #bokehlicious #beaucoupbokeh

Seen on an exterior brick wall.

Heteropoda is a genus of spiders in the family Sparassidae, the huntsman spiders. Found in tropical and warm, temperate locations - mainly distributed in tropical Asia and here in Australia.

Diffuser testing is going well. This new material is working a treat.

So many positives about it

Chemical resistant

Heat Resistant

Cold resistant

UV resistant

Strong

Waterproof

And easy for me to tweak. I do not have to rely on a manufacturer to make it to a certain thickness as I can do this myself. WIN!

As you can see the light is nice. I have been inspired to make some other changes to the diffuser over the coming days.

Here is a Victorian Huntsman Spider

A Juvenile male that was in my house. He is now out on a tree so will be able to get food and possible a mate later down the track.

Here he is standing up tall trying to make himself look larger than he is. They tend to be a little bit edgy until they get older and then they mellow out a fair bit.

Testing out a OM1 MKII

I already dont want to hand it back. The less fps (10 fps) in Sequential mode using flash are not a deal breaker. I adjusted my stacking speed and adapted to it quickly. I notice from the Em1 mkii to this quite a big improvement and can push the files further in post. One day if I win the lottery I will pick one up.

Have a nice day

Had a visitor this morning

Going to start snapping away at my new parcel to document it's progression.. Always takes me forever to get a parcel setup and then always changing up things.. but here goes with the 'blank canvas' with a few bits to start..

Built for the CCC 14, Woodland Hideaway Category.

Even the lonely hunters and trappers of the great northern forests need a warm place to find shelter and rest now and then. This communal abode was built on top of a mountain spring. A secret alternate entrance is hidden beneath a waterfall to prevent thieves and wild beasts from stealing their hard-earned larder. The tunnel also serves as an escape route if the enemies should be too dangerous to fight.

--------------------------------------

This one took a while to make, but I love how it turned out! I'm hoping to do more for the CCC, but we'll see how things go. :)

Hope you guys like it!

Huntsman Spider behind the calendar (Volcanoes from Hawai'i)

These spiders are famous in Australia for all the wrong reasons. Personally, I love them. They are big and hairy and honestly quite friendly and I don't fear them at all. This one says hello from our Callistemon. Happy Arachtober 9!

Had a visitor in the bedroom last night. They are good as they hunt other spiders and insects, but I don't like the thought of it crawling over my face. Sorry about the messy background. This is the spider buster card, used with a wide mouth glass to capture unwanted guests and expel them.

Yes the stuff of nightmares, LOL! I have to say as much as I like spiders I do not like these!!!! Luckily he is outside. They do get in the cabin which I actually get a glass wide enough so as to not take off a leg (though they do re-grow them) catch them and get them outside. But I do it with trepidation, LOL!

This one is 2 1/2 inches from leg to opposite leg. The Australian ones get up to 12 inches across YIKES!

It looks like he has a web he got caught in, my husband is getting it off of his legs.

I was taken by surprise when

this female Huntsman spider slowly crawled out of her silken retreat hidden among the pods.

Iron Range NP, QLD

It's that time of year here - another huntsman accidentally found itself in my house and on the prowl for a meal and possibly looking for love. Never fails to astonish me how well they grip vertical surfaces.

Thank you to all that take the time to look at my photographs and comment or like them. It really is appreciated. To see more please visit www.kevinagar.uk

At the end of the successful search for clues, Hagerman nevertheless had an uneasy feeling... Have fun!

At what end of the food chain are we right now?

Typostola barbata in the family Sparassidae

This is normally a timid species. It is very unusual to see it out in the open in the middle of the day. There was a lot of spider wasp activity in the vicinity and birds are a constant threat, so it is quite vulnerable where it was on the side of a plastic rain water tank. Possibly it's habitat had been destroyed as a tree was felled nearby.

This individual was about 200mm from toe to toe.

There are 94 catalogued species of Hunstman in Australia.

This was taken in South Coast NSW, Australia.

NB. This image has artistic edit applied for fun - but colours/markings are true to life and I feel sufficient detail remains to be helpful/enjoyable to viewers.

I understand that our Australian Heteropoda species are difficult to distinguish from each other without the aid of a microscope, so I will leave this at genus level.

The markings on their upper surfaces vary slightly from specimen to specimen but not greatly from species to species.
