Photo by Catherine Dobbins d'Alessio. This Burrowing Owl was photographed at the Prewett Family Park Burrowing Owl Preserve in Antioch, California, on a bright sunny day. These little guys like to use perches, such as fence posts, to watch for predators. Unfortunately, urban development has been displacing them from much of their native habitat in the Bay Area.

At the window where sweetness meets the day’s brisk air,

A moment’s trade, a pastry’s grace, a baker’s care.

She stands, the day’s soft script in hand, a story yet to tell,

As morning’s warmth in golden hues whispers, “All is well.”

The morning sun

Illuminates

A face I’ve seen

So many times

But now it seems

Your lineaments

Are leading me

Towards a false reality

And I know for sure

That every time you turn around

I see a new face

That I can’t recall

I see a new face

That I oh I oh I I oh I can't recall

I wanna break out

Of this dead lock

The air’s thin

I’m breathing heavily

Countless streams

Of thoughts appear

I find myself

In a state of despair

I should have been

A better judge

But now I can see

Your nature clear as day

The street is very narrow in the town. People just talking to their neighbors across the street without walking out of their porches.

This is exactly what they were doing in the picture. Very interesting human interaction influenced by culture and environment.

Photo by Donald Dvorak. On October 10, 2009 I participated in the “Wildlife Watching at Cordell Bank” boat trip sponsored by the Point Reyes National Seashore Association with naturalists from the Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary. Cordell Bank is an underwater seamount located twenty miles west of Point Reyes. It is a nutrient rich environment with a large plankton mass which is the beginning of the food chain that supports animals all the way up to the whales that frequent this area.

Wildlife sightings were fantastic, ranging from Black-footed Albatross to Humpback Whales.

One unexpected treat was the sighting of two species of Warblers. The Warblers apparently strayed out to sea and our boat provided a place to land and rest.

They landed on various parts of the boat. Apparently without fear of people, they landed on our heads, shoes, arms and legs.

It was delightful to see a Blue-Throated Grey Warbler in such an unusual warm hearted encounter with a human being.
