It can become very crowded when a tiny, bright-colored bird is spotted high in the trees. For many birders, there is great enjoyment in watching pretty birds that can only seen in large numbers during Spring migration. Generally, there is a spirit of sharing the uplifting experience and mutual assistance in identifying the transient birds.
Photographing birds can become difficult at times in the crowded conditions. Arriving very early, and leaving early are the remedies for that.
Gwangjang Market is one of Seoul's oldest traditional markets. It was established in 1905 and today covers roughly 42,000 square meters in central Seoul, near Jongno. It has remained a working market rather than a curated attraction.
The market is best known for its food stalls. Small kitchens line the narrow aisles, serving simple Korean dishes such as bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), gimbap, noodles, dumplings, and hot stews. Food is prepared continuously, often in front of customers, and eaten standing or seated on small stools.
These photographs focus on short, unposed moments — hands passing plates, steam rising from pots, pauses between orders — that define daily life at the market.

captured in stark black-and-white, this image tells a quiet story of light and shadow, movement and stillness. one figure enters through a brightly illuminated door, casting long shadows across the floor, while another stands partially hidden in shadow, watching from the sidelines. the intense contrast and cinematic framing lend the scene a sense of mystery, reminiscent of classic film noir. in this moment, light becomes both a barrier and a bridge, highlighting the solitude of each figure in their own space within the frame.

on the sunlit streets of palma de mallorca, a woman in white raises her hand in a gesture of dismissal, her face set in a mask of determination behind dark sunglasses. the stark contrast between the bright light and deep shadows captures the intensity of the moment, emphasizing the strong emotions at play. her body language speaks volumes, a candid snapshot of modern urban life where personal boundaries are asserted amidst the daily hustle.

Some vendors at Chorsu Market love the camera, but others do not. I tried to convince this cauliflower seller, but his message was clear. Sometimes, you must respect the "no" and move on.
Chorsu Market is one of the oldest and busiest in Central Asia. It's a maze of fresh produce, spices, meats, fabrics, and everyday street life, all under its iconic blue dome. Locals come here daily, and for a photographer, it's a goldmine of character, color, and honest human moments — even when the moment means not taking the shot.

this photo captures a street vendor in calle oms, palma de mallorca, displaying his goods when he is suddenly distracted by an exceptionally beautiful dark-skinned woman passing by his stand. the scene, set against the backdrop of handmade crafts and summer hats, freezes a moment of human interaction and surprise, highlighting the everyday beauty found in the most ordinary circumstances. the blurred motion of the woman contrasts with the vendor's fixed gaze, creating a dynamic yet intimate street portrait.
At the threshold of Havana’s Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, two figures pause in quiet exchange — framed by weathered wood, whitewashed walls, and the soft geometry of a cobblestone street. A moment of stillness in a city of layered transitions, where art, architecture, and conversation converge.

captured in a quaint, old shopping area near the mercat de l'olivar in palma de mallorca, this image humorously portrays two women seemingly "meeting" without acknowledging each other. their contrasting outfits and matching red carts add an element of symmetry and irony to the scene. amidst the bustling backdrop of closed shops and the midday sun casting sharp shadows, this moment freezes the silent choreography of urban life, where paths cross yet remain parallel.
This guy had an awesome costume he told me he had sewn himself the night before, putting a lot of hard work in it and little sleep. I had taken a pic or two with the whole thing on, but when the mask came out it was lovely to discover such a contagious and handsome smile underneath. I know as street photographers we tend to be mostly invisible in our work, shooting and vanishing... But those few times you get to interact in a human level with your subjects, more so if they're nice and approachable, then the experience is priceless....
I gave him my card when he asked if he could get some of the photos. I hope he gets in touch. :-)

This photograph captures a different perspective of Hanoi’s iconic Train Street, where vibrant cafés and narrow tracks typically draw tourists. Here, however, we see the lesser-known side, a place of daily life and hard work away from the crowds. Locals are sorting and organizing recyclables, displaying the resilience and industrious spirit that characterizes Vietnam’s urban life. This side of Train Street highlights a quieter, more authentic view of the city, where community and labor shape the landscape just as much as the nearby bustling cafes and trains.
in the quiet hum of mercat d'olivar, just before closing time, a young boy stands entranced by the delicate task of a shopkeeper arranging her wares. the overhead lights cast a gentle glow on the polished tiles, reflecting the subdued energy of the nearing end of the day. in the background, stalls brimming with local produce and cured meats hint at the market's daily bustle, now giving way to a serene stillness. this candid moment captures a blend of curiosity and calm, a fleeting intersection of daily routine and youthful wonder.
This photo, a part of the street photography series, depicts an intimate yet silent exchange between mannequins, with a blurred human figure in the background. The scene toys with the concept of human interaction versus the artificiality of retail displays, capturing a moment where the inanimate seems to convey more emotion than the living. It's a commentary on the silent stories in bustling urban spaces and the unnoticed narratives that unfold around us every day.
This photograph, created by Duncan Rawlinson, is a visual exploration of the space at the edge of discovery, where AI's potential is rendered in a spectral display of light and color. The setting is an industrial expanse, where the rawness of the environment is juxtaposed with the fluidity of digital enhancements. Human figures, cast in shadow, navigate this transformative realm, their presence a grounding force in the midst of AI's expansive potential. The palette is alive with dynamic hues, a spectrum of color that seems to be in constant flux, echoing the ever-changing nature of technology. Reflective surfaces capture and multiply the scene, creating layers of depth that draw the eye deeper into the photograph. Rawlinson's work is a visual threshold, inviting the observer to step into a world where the lines between the real and the artificially rendered are beautifully blurred.

Bombay Hook's Plan of Action: Letter from manager SIGNS POSTED
Ms. Cher,
Thank you for the information and photographs regarding people feeding and interacting with foxes on Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. We have been made aware of this problem by multiple sources. In the photographs we did observed violations of the National Wildlife Administration Act (16 U.S.C. 668dd). The animals on the refuge are in fact wild animals and should not be approached nor should an attempt be made to handle them. The Refuge will be posting the den areas with warning signs, providing information on the concerns related to humans interacting with wildlife and enforcing the regulations. Again, thank you for your concern for the Refuge and its wildlife.

Update: what 2 months later?? on July 12th ,2009 I went to Bombay Hook and there was no ranger in sight, Nor were there any signs posted!!!
Response from Oscar- There is a big sign posted!
Ms. Cher,
In response to your letter, we do take the matter seriously. As you approached the Auto Tour Route, you should have seen the warning sign that we posted. It is located at the beginning of the Auto Tour Route (at the "T" before you make the right hand turn starting around Raymond Pool) and it measures approximately 22"x30" with a bright white background. We chose to place it there (instead of the den sites) because it is the best location for all visitors to see it and because the foxes had begun to move away from the dens. Though we were not there during your visit, we are patrolling and have encountered violators. We will continue to do so.
Thank you for your continued interest in and concern about the wildlife here on Bombay Hook NWR.

A Call From The Wild:
"I'm a baby Red Fox and if you feed me, touch me
and let me sit upon your lap...
I will have faith in all the world
and the Eagle will take me down." AC
I'm a baby bird and if you take me or my nest
My Momma will abandon me
and I will never fly.
I'm a baby deer and if you feed me
the hunter will be near
He will hunt me and
I won't have no fear.
We are wild
and if you love us
Please don't feed
Please don't touch
Please dont let us
have faith and trust.
Written to the photographer, by Angel Cher
This poem was written regarding how I feel... I have deer who eat the grass cuttings in my yard and sometimes when I have corn I will throw it to them- It is my Yard and I have to consider the outcomes and I do. I would never touch a deer with my hands or welcome them to me - Even if It is cute and I have seen it and find it adorable by others. The refuge animals are way different to me.
There is no hunting aloud on my property- It's Posted!
A QUOTE:
Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals "love" them. But those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal lives, love them more. ~Edwin Way Teale, Circle of the Seasons, 1953
My Story: The young fox kits are curious and this little one approached someone eating lunch!
Chloe is what some of the regulars call Momma and she is vigorously teaching them to hunt right now by burying food for them to find so they will master the skills and go out on their own very shortly. Many photographers this day were baiting them to get a photo.
while I don't like the fact people do throw them food, they do... and I hope they will soon run around and catch mice and other rodents! These guys are not too timid right now and hopefully they will eventually keep a distance and stay safe!
This photo was surely a blessing for the person here eating her lunch!
The fascination of seeing them so friendly is astonishing to say the least. This was an amazing moment for a human to experience.
These Kits have been fed by most people there and are so used to it that I watched as this little one approached in delight and amazement. I wish that people would consider the outcome for them and the danger it could pose. Caught in the moment how can a photographer resist such a shot nonetheless. I also think this shot is a story in itself of how a wild animal can be so interactive with a human with so little fear and much trust.
It would help though if the park rangers would monitor it just a little better. A Human being has always been fascinated with wildlife and If only they can touch them for a moment. This particular woman was not at all expecting such an awesome blessing like this!
Many were feeding sandwiches, bagels, cream cheese, ham, mustard:
Note to all who feed them: Diet: Foxes are carnivores. That means that they eat other animals. Their favorite things are rodents, rabbits and small birds. If they live near people, they are famous for raiding hen houses and stealing chickens.

I have taken yesterday 300 photos at Borough Market, near London Bridge, but this is the one I prefer: friendship and culture.
November 2008
For Day 2 of the 5 Day Black and White Photo Challenge, given to me by Michael Bandy... I wanted to choose an image from my time doing freelance media photography, to show an image that tells a different story then most people have come to expect in my photos. While the concept of a 5 day challenge might sound silly to some folks, i really want to use this as an opportunity to review my work... where it's come from, where it's going and find ways to share events, places and people in an expanded way.
This photo was taken at the San Jose Tech Museum, for one of their "after hours events." What grabbed me in this image was the couple and their interactions with TV screen that broadcasting the faces of people that had just previously been at this exhibit. It was a unique mix of human and electronic interaction.
Photo by Bill Stone. After a morning and afternoon of photographing fall colors south of Lake Tahoe my daughter and I stopped for a late lunch at Sorenson's Resort. We had watched this Jay flying around the outside tables and when the people next to us left he helped himself to the sweetener packets. He stashed them around the resort and came back for more.
We have all been there getting caught by enforcement officers, however I believe they negotiated a truce!!!!
". . . Each mushroom in this sophisticated cluster has its own character and delightfully responds to human interaction. As participants step on the footpads located beneath each cap, the mushrooms grow and breathe. In daylight the grouping appears ethereal white, while at night, it magically transforms as embedded LEDs glow through the translucent outer skin." [From the text accompanying the installation]
