". . . Each mushroom in this sophisticated cluster has its own character and delightfully responds to human interaction. As participants step on the footpads located beneath each cap, the mushrooms grow and breathe. In daylight the grouping appears ethereal white, while at night, it magically transforms as embedded LEDs glow through the translucent outer skin." [From the text accompanying the installation]

The little girl appears to be warned by a man. A strange gentleman or a family member? The background of this story, however, is missing...
Het kleine meisje lijkt een waarschuwing te krijgen van een meneer. Is het een wildvreemde of een familielid? De achtergrond van dit verhaal ontbreekt helaas...

Not our first encounter with Koalas since our move to Adelaide, but I'm sure it will be our most memorable. This young koala was seeking water after a hot 45 Deg day.

I usually don't photograph people - especially not random strangers. There was just something interesting about these two; they were deep in conversation for a good length of time. The eldery woman had a wonderfully expressive face.
I may make this photo private after a while... I am just curious as to how much 'attention' this shot is going to attract.

Photo by Robert Lewis. At about 13,000 feet on the slopes of Antisana, Ecuador's fourth highest mountain, this Bar-winged Cinclodes investigated the settings of my camera, and showed his disapproval by leaving droppings on the viewing screen.

Diatas Normal
Pikiranku tak dapat kumengerti,
Kaki dikepala,
Kepala dikaki

I was on the Green Line Metro train April 1st, when I heard a voice say: "$2 for a picture." I instantly turned around and there was a group of high school aged kids looking at me.
How some of you who follow my stream know of my involvement with the $2 Portrait Project and for a brief moment I thought to myself that somehow this person knows my work and has recognized me so I asked: “How do you know?”
He looked at me and paused for a moment so I asked: “Do I pay you or do you pay me?” to which he replied: “I pay you. You’re the one with the camera.” So I smiled and told him that I will do the picture for free because I am the one who usually pays for the photo, and he seemed just a little surprised as I changed to the 50mm f/1.4 and moved towards him, telling him that I am going to get up close.
I ask him his name and he tells me: “King”, but my hearing is getting bad and I have a hard time hearing the pronunciation so I ask him to spell it, which he does.
I take a few exposures and, after looking at the images in the monitor, we both decide that we like this shot and I tell him that a lot of people are going to see his picture when I post it to flickr. He smiles again and seems to enjoy the thought of having his image seen.
As I finished with his shot, one of the young women in the group asks me to take her picture also. So, of course, I agree and do so while asking her name, which she tells me is: “Ro Ro”. and again I have to ask for the spelling.
There were more kids in the group and I actually wanted to photograph them all but just as I was going to ask, the train came to the next stop and they started filing out. It was all over in just a couple of minutes.
So, to King and Ro Ro; thank you. In a world that hungers for human interaction, you and your friends made a difference in my life by reaching out and was my sincere pleasure and honor to have made your acquaintance, truly. Good luck and best wishes to you both.

Photo by Catherine Dobbins d'Alessio. This Burrowing Owl was photographed at the Prewett Family Park Burrowing Owl Preserve in Antioch, California, on a bright sunny day. These little guys like to use perches, such as fence posts, to watch for predators. Unfortunately, urban development has been displacing them from much of their native habitat in the Bay Area.
