Dirección: Carretera a San Andrés Mixquic.

Aire Libre

The "Lock Up The Year" Royal Canal Trail Marathon was held on the banks of the Royal Canal from Moyvalley, Co. Kildare to Leixlip, Co. Kildare on Tuesday 31st December 2012 at 09:00. The race started at Furey's Pub at Moyvalley (goo.gl/maps/3pqhF) and proceeded westwards to Blackshade bridge (goo.gl/maps/4yVNI) where the race turned around and then the route was direct back to Leixlip. The running route followed the Royal Canal Way from start to finish. There was also the option of a 1/2 marathon (from Cloncurry Bridge near Enfield) and a 10KM distance from The Maws at Kilcock. This event is made possible through the cooperation of East Of Ireland Marathons and Jarlath B. Hynes and Brendan Murphy from Leixlip, Co. Kildare (see a Facebook group page here www.facebook.com/groups/524790427539290/?fref=ts). The key aspect of this run is that they are three races are informal and self supported runs along on the Royal Canal Way trail. There is no chip timing, water stops, marshals, massages, t-shirts or prizes. But it ise an enjoyable run along the Royal Canal and a chance to meet up with fellow runners during the race and then after it at the Le Cheile clubhouse in Leixlip. There are some nice numbers for the race today. 26.2 miles, 2 counties, 5 traversals in and out of Meath and Kildare, crossing 6 roads, and passing under 5 bridges before the finish outside the Leixlip amenities center.

Due to recent heavy rains the canal towpath (particularly between Cloncurry and Kilcock) was very wet and muddy and proved difficult and testing terrain for all of the runners. However despite a strong breeze at a few sections the weather was bright and dry and made for good running conditions.

This photograph is part of a larger set of photographs taken of the event(s) today. They are all available for viewing in this Flickr set. www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157639233559965

The Royal Canal is a very special piece of Irish Heritage. It's waterway channel and it's banks have seen much history with both the rise and subsequent decline in railway and canal travel and transportation. Our run on the Royal Canal is made possible by the incredible hard and dilligent work by the Inland Waterways of Ireland and countless volunteer individuals who turned their vision of a restored Royal Canal into reality.

How can I get a full resolution copy of these photographs?

All of the photographs here on this Flickr set are available for view and download under a Creative Commons License (www.flickr.com/creativecommons/). This means you can view them, post them to other websites, use them, etc provided you provide a link back to the original photograph or photoset here on Flickr. All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available offline, free, at no cost, at full image resolution also. We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember - all we ask is for you to link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. Taking the photographs and preparing them for online posting does take a significant effort. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc.

If you would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Both of these are from this book. Below is the original recipe, from which I made several changes I'll detail after the recipe.

1 1/3 lb ground chicken or turkey

1/2 lb andouille sausage, casing removed, diced

3 celery ribs and their greens, finely chopped

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped.

1 small onion, finely chopped

4 garlic glove, finely chopped

3 tbs fresh thyme, chopped

2 tbs hot sauce

4 tbs olive oil

10 oz frozen corn (thawed) or about 3 ears of fresh corn

4 scallions, chopped

1 can red beans, drained

1 cup chili sauce, divided

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup grainy mustard

4 jumbo shrimp, peeled, deveined and butterflied

1 tbs Old Bay Seasoning

4 crusy rolls, split

4 green leaf lettuce leaves

1 large beefsteak tomato, sliced

Burgers

Preheat a grill pan or large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.

Place the meat of your choice in a bowl. Add the sausage, halft the chopped celery, all the onions, half the garlic, the thyme, hot sauce, salt, pepper and about 2 tbs of the olive oil. Combine and from 4 patties. Grill 5 minutes on each side.

Cajun Corn and Red Beans

Heat a skillet over medium-hig heat. Add 2 tbs of the olive oil the remaining bell pepper and garlic along with the corn. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the scallions and red beans and heat through, another 2 to 3 minutes. Add 1/2 cup of the chili sauce and cook for 1 minute more. Turn off the heat and let stand.

Combine the remaining chilic sauce (1/2 cup) with the remaining celery, the mayo and the mustard. Set aside.

Coat the shrimp witha little oil and the Old Bay Seasoning, salt and pepper. Press down with a small skillet (or something) to prevent shrimp from curling. Cook for 2 minutes on each side.

Put the burger on the bun, top with the shrimp, mayo mixture, lettuce and tomato. Serve the beans along side.

Changes I Made

I used spicy italian sausage instead of andouille, because I couldn't find uncooked andouille. I also used 3 tsp dried thyme in place of the fresh thyme.

I omitted the celery (not a big fan, its a texture thing). I also omitted the bun, tomato and mayo dressing.

These burgers are huge, almost a 1/2 lb each. First time I've tried this, so I followed the size recomendation. Next time I would either half the recipe or make 8 patties.

I used a George Foreman grill (for the first time) to cook these. The top/bottom is a little chared, but the inside is fine.

The burger was great. The corn and beans were good, but I think would be better with barbeque sauce in place of the chili sauce.

Florentina Bracelet is now available at www.etsy.com/shop/bybeejang. You will receive two files. One is CRAW technique and the other file is how to make this bracelet.

Yes, this is another variation for CRAW, using only the basic beads of 11/0 seed beads, bicone crystals and round pearls.

I hope to have more designs on CRAW. The technique is so fun to make once you get a hang of it. Then, I will move on to other basic stitches.

This is the "Punch" end of the buffet table . . . the floating apples are frozen. These are used instead of ice or a frozen punch ring (hard to make as far as *I* am concerned - I quit doing it years ago and use apples of "seasonal" colors - - - green and yellow in the spring, and red or green (depending on what color the punch is) for Christmas, yellow or red for fall, etc. I used green in the white-cranberry-grape-juice punch for my daughter's wedding. (Picture of THAT punch bowl is in the first comment below . . . it wouldn't "stick" here!

My mom taught me this trick and people love it. The apples can be "trash apples" - things you don't particularly enjoy eating . . . small ones, etc., as long as they are good and clean without bruises or "bad" places since they get quite mushy when they thaw out over several hours time.

They're festive and they make WONDERFUL "ice cubes" - - - keep it very cold without diluting the punch at *all*!!!!

This week the Sunday Club members Dave K and I visited the Bleanavon Heritage Railway.

Locomotive details-

Builder: R. Stephenson & Hawthorn Ltd., Newcastle-on-Tyne.

Built: 1945, works no.7169

Wheel Arrangement: 0-6-0ST

Wheel diameter: 4’ 3”

Boiler Pressure: 170psi.

Weight : 48 tons 5 cwt.

71515 was commissioned by the War Department in 1945 from Robert Stevenson and Hawthorns as WD71515, but, with WW2 all but over, was quickly put to work at the Swalwell Disposal Point in what was then the county of Durham, but is now Tyne & Wear. At the time the opencast disposal point was worked by Mechanical Navvies Limited, and it is in that company’s livery that the loco now appears.

It was taken into preservation by 1974 to the East Somerset Railway, where shortly after arrival she was was liveried in BR black with the spurious running number 68005.

By 1995 she was in service at the Bolton and Embsay Railway, still in BR black and where she was nicknamed ‘The Mog’. She was overhauled in 2004, but burst a boiler tube two years later and was laid aside.

Three years later, following interest shown by a PBR member, she was purchased in August 2009, and in the following month, taken to the Flour Mill works in the Forest of Dean for repair, and repainting into her original colour. She arrived at Furnace Sidings on 28 April 2010, and has worked the majority of services scheduled for steam haulage since. Her sure-footed bark as she tackles the steep grade between bridge 16 and Whistle Inn, and mournful Midland-style hooter is a familiar sound over Blaenavon.

Tây Ban Nha: Casillas; Capdevila, Puyol, Piqué, Ramos; Busquets, Xabi Alonso (Fabregas 86’), Xavi; Iniesta, Pedro (Navas 60’), Villa (Torres 106’).

Hà Lan: Stekelenburg; Van Bronckhorst (Braafheid 105’), Mathijsen, Heitinga, Van der Wiel; Van Bommel, De Jong (Van der Vaart 98’), Sneijder; Kuyt (Elia 70’), Robben, Van Persie.

Tuesday 23 July 2013 - Day 04 - Acclimatisation day 2, Huaraz (3,052m)

Our second day's acclimatisation in Huaraz saw us head out of town, past the smart residential district built for the people working for the mines, onto unpaved roads and out through the older villages and farmland beyond. Our minibus coped brilliantly with the ever narrowing, winding route, until we approached our drop off just past the last village, when we stalled on an uphill section and rolled back, almost into a drainage ditch. Much excitement (of varying kinds) ensued. Eventually it was agreed that the ladies should start off on the morning's walk, heading east towards the Quebrada Llaca, a gap in the Cordillera Blanca that lies within the Parque Nacional Huascarán. Having walked back to the village to get planks and successfully getting the minibus out of its hole, Val and the chaps followed in our footsteps.

A lovely morning's walk, rising to over 4000m, with beautiful landscape all around us: luring us ahead were the imposing snow tops of Ranrapalca / Ranrapallqa (6,162 m) to our right and Ocshapalca / Uqshapallqa (5,881 m) to our left, on the lower slopes sheep were grazing and accompanying us on our route east rose an imposing ridge. All around us we could find colourful examples of High Andean flora (including lupins!), and as we rejoined the road for a short stretch we walked between Queñuales / Polylepis (paperbark) trees.

Yesterday evening en route to dinner we'd bought bread rolls from a local lady outside one of the town's supermarkets which had supplied a block of cheese and some oranges, and stopping for our picnic lunch today we were rewarded with fantastic views from our gorge/ous location - looking back the way we'd come we could see Huaraz down the valley and the high mines cutting into the hill tops above, and head of us loomed the snowy, fluted ridges of Ocshapalca / Uqshapallqa with Ranrapalca / Ranrapallqa and its thick duvets of bright, white snow peaking snuggling up from the south.

After our picnic, we didn't continue on to Laguna Churup but instead retraced our steps back to the minibus. Back at base, after a kit check by Val, we packed and then headed into town for a mooch and to (at last!) withdraw some funds from the bank. In the town square, we had our first encounter with the build up of festivities in anticipation of 28 July when Peru celebrates its Independence day (Día de la Independencia) in great style, with the additional excitement of Huaraz's own 156th birthday celebrations. The town was holding its first Battle of the (Brass) Bands, with three groups facing off, literally, two at a time at either end of the stretch of the main street by the main square. Amongst the town residents we saw an occasional visiting villager in more traditional dress - including high hats and full skirts.

We rendezvoused for dinner at Crêperie Patrick, where Val treated us to a Coca Pisco Sour - no wonder sleep proved elusive that night!

Bevis Bawa's garden:

Brief Garden

Kalutara, Sri Lanka

Ten kilometres inland from Bentota is the Brief Garden. A barely controlled riot of a garden out of the Jungle Book , the grounds are a lovely place to get lost. The house, which used to be the home of Bevis Bawa, brother of renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa, has an eclectic range of artwork on display – from homoerotic sculpture to a wonderful mural of Sri Lankan life in the style of Marc Chagall.

To get here, follow the road south from Aluthgama to Matagama Rd and turn inland to the village of Dharga Town. From here you will periodically see yellow signs saying ‘Brief’, but as everyone knows this place, it’s easy enough to ask directions. There’s no public transport.

www.gardendesign.com/places/the-brothers-bawa

By Caroline Seebohm:

Bevis Bawa (1909-1992) started his garden (also a former rubber plantation) in 1929, almost 20 years before his brother (Geoffrey Bawa, 1919-2003). His design follows narrow winding pathways through dense tropical foliage, runs up and down slopes, then suddenly opens onto a staircase, a patio, a pond, or a strategically placed piece of sculpture. Walking through it one feels that Bevis somehow tamed the jungle for his purposes, but only momentarily—stray from the path and you are back in the forest.

Bevis’ garden, (...) was the wilder of the two but somehow more comforting and intimate. A drenching monsoon rain had just ended, leaving a steamy and muggy atmosphere with drops of water still trembling on the palm fronds and rivulets of rain racing across the paths like little snakes. No other tourists ventured out in such torridly humid weather, and no guide appeared to accompany me. Yet I did not feel lonely. The paths took me from vista to vista, each more breathtaking than the last. I felt I was being led by an invisible docent who told me where to stop and look or where to sit and rest. It was magical. At every turn I was aware of the giant palms and tropical plants looming overhead, ready to pounce and return to the jungle the land Bevis had so cunningly captured.

Arquitecto: Alberto Campo Baeza.

Colaboradores: Emilio Delgado, Ignacio Aguirre y David Delgado, arquitectos; Miguel Ciria y Juan Yruela estudiantes, Manuel Cebada arquitecto técnico y Andrés Rubio y Jorge Conde, ingenieros

2000-2005 Proyecto 2007-2009 obras

A visit to War Memorial Park in Coventry.

It is a short walk from Coventry Station via the Warwick Road.

I only walked around half of the park that day.

The War Memorial Park is a large park of about 48.5 hectares in southern Coventry, England. The park was opened in July 1921 as a tribute to the 2,587 Coventrians who died between 1914 and 1918 fighting in the First World War. The landscaped gardens and sports areas were created in the late-1920s and 1930s, and the most prominent structure in the park is the city's war memorial monument, built in 1927.

War Memorial in Coventry War Memorial Park

Summary

A War Memorial built in 1925-7 to a design by Thomas Francis Tickner (1864-1924).

Description

A War Memorial tower in Art Deco style, with stripped Classical detailing, built in 1925-7 to a design by Thomas Francis Tickner (1864-1924).

PLAN: the memorial tower has a square footprint and is set on a circular platform, which was rebuilt in 2011, and replaces the original octagonal shaped platform.

MATERIALS: the memorial tower is built of reinforced concrete and clad in Portland stone, with a stepped platform in granite.

EXTERIOR: the stepped tower is over 27m high. It has heavy buttresses to its corners, rising to ten tiers. Large, decorative bronze doors (restored in 2004) to both the east and west elevation, are set in plain chamfered Portland stone surrounds, and give access to the Chamber of Silence inside the tower. Each door contains, in relief, a full height cross with above it '1914-1918' and '1939-1945'. The north and south elevations each have a plain cross set on a stepped corbel with guttae. Below the cross on the north elevation is a circular wreath carved in stone, with the dates of both World Wars and the Coat of Arms of the City of Coventry below it. At the top of the tower burns an Eternal Light. The replaced steps of 2011, surrounding the monument, incorporate hand rails and an access ramp, and contain a bronze circle engraved with parts of Laurence Binyon's poem 'For the Fallen' and six bronze discs commemorating the Coventry service men who have been awarded the Victoria Cross.

INTERIOR: the Chamber of Silence inside the memorial tower, containing the Rolls of Honour, could not be inspected.

SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: there are four Portland stone pedestals, built in 1928 to support floodlights, standing in line with the corners of the memorial tower. Behind the pedestal north of the Memorial is a cast iron power supply junction box with decorative patterns and hinges to its door, which would supply the electricity for the floodlighting, and loudspeakers used on Armistice Sunday and/or other gatherings.

History

In 1919 Coventry City Council invited members of the local community to form a War Memorial Committee to consider ways to create a fitting memorial for the city to commemorate the local soldiers who had lost their lives in the First World War. It was decided that this should be a park, which would also be a welcome and valued new asset, as the provision for open space in Coventry was limited at the time. The favoured location was Stivichall, and in 1919 the land was purchased from the Hon AF Gregory following a public appeal for donations. The plans for the park were partly dictated by earlier features and in particular the course of a medieval track, which would divide a formal section from playing fields. The latter were assigned for games and physical recreation for which Coventry had scant provision in 1919. The formal area would include rock gardens, which utilised existing cattle ponds, and in the centre, a War Memorial with radiating avenues planted with memorial trees. A children’s playground, pavilions, shelters and refreshment rooms would also be provided. Due to a lack of funds and priorities elsewhere, such as local housing provision, the creation of the park would take over ten years. When the park was formally opened on 9 July 1921, which included a dedication and memorial service followed by folk dancing and races, only the preparation of the ground had been completed. In 1922 the path layout was agreed with the Council, and in 1923 it was decided that the main entrance should be at the Grove; that the War Memorial should be sited on the high ground in the centre of the park; and that memorial trees should be an important element within the design. Plans were also made for a pavilion with lavatory accommodation for which works started in 1924. By the end of that year a temporary bandstand that had been erected in the summer of 1923, and the Earlsdon Cricket Club pavilion were removed. Planting of the park started in the spring of 1925, and the avenues were opened that summer. On 8 October 1927, the War Memorial, built to a design by the local architect Thomas Francis Tickner, was opened by Earl Haig. In 1926 the City Engineer drew up plans for the main gates, which were completed a year later. On 25 February 1927 the Coventry Herald reported that the memorial had been partly finished, that the paths in the park were lined with copper beeches and that it included a beautiful rock garden, flower beds and shrubs. Golf was introduced in 1930 when a small golf course was laid out on land by the railway. In 1933 the City Engineer prepared plans for a shelter, tea room and conveniences, for which a classical style was chosen. Building work continued during 1934 and the pavilions were first used for the carnival in June 1935.

During the Second World War large sections of land in the park were ploughed and used for food cropping and demonstration allotments. As shown on aerial photographs taken in c1946-7, most of the mature trees in the playing fields had disappeared, possibly because of intensive sport use, but more likely because of the introduction of anti-aircraft guns in 1941, a row of concrete cubes (probably to defend an underground ammunition store situated in the park), trench shelters, and a roadway to allow military access to the pavilion. After the War in 1948-52, a memorial tree planting campaign took place to commemorate the local people who lost their lives in the Second World War, resulting in the planting of another avenue across the north of the golf course to the pavilion, and one near the Beechwood Avenue entrance, where by 1977 a car park had been created. In the early 1950s children’s facilities were developed in the park including play equipment and a paddling pool. In 1963, a German Peace Garden was opened to the north of the rock garden. In 1990 an aviary was introduced in one of the former tennis courts, and replacing a collection of war time huts that stood on this site.

Memorial tree planting continues (2012) and recently Coventry City Council has refurbished the park through joint funding from the BIG and Heritage Lottery Funds Parks for People Programme.

It was intended from the outset, apart from the planting of memorial trees, there should be a monument in Coventry's War Memorial Park. In 1923, the Memorial Committee had invited architects to submit plans. The selected design was by the local architect Thomas Francis Tickner (1864-1924), who died shortly afterwards, so the work was overseen by his partner TRJ Meakin. Funding for the memorial was achieved through a public appeal in 1924. Building works, carried out by John Gray, a local builder, started in the autumn of 1925. On 8 October 1927, the memorial was inaugurated by Field Marshall Douglas Haig. The Roll of Honour was to be housed in a cabinet in a room inside the memorial, to be called the Chamber of Silence. During the opening ceremony the monument was floodlit, and the power supply box was left in place so that it could be floodlit every year on Armistice Day. At the end of 1928, money became available to install decorative bronze clad doors to the Chamber of Silence, and permanent floodlighting pedestals were placed around the memorial. After the Second World War another Roll of Honour was added. The monument commemorates 2587 military victims of the First World War, and 817 casualties in the forces, 115 in civilian defence organisations and 1085 civilians of the Second World War. Soldiers who lost their lives in more recent conflicts, such as the Gulf War, have also been added to the Roll. In 2011 the tower was restored, and stepped platform to the monument replaced to incorporate railings and an access ramp.

Reasons for Listing

The War Memorial in Coventry War Memorial Park is designated at Grade II* for the following principal reasons:

Architectural interest: it is a particularly important example of a bespoke war memorial tower that is of an unusually bold and arresting Art Deco style design that displays high quality architectural detailing and use of materials and give this memorial more than special visual interest;

Historic Interest: especially in the context of Coventry, a city which suffered such great human loss in both World Wars, the war memorial possesses considerable historic and cultural interest for its link with these world conflicts and the poignant cost of such involvement, both at a local and national level;

Setting: its surrounding park (registered Grade II), specifically designed to complement the War Memorial, with formal avenues radiating from the war memorial, adds significantly to its high level of special interest;

Group Value: it forms an important group with the contemporary main entrance gates and piers to Coventry War Memorial Park (listed Grade II).

BOSS Dumpling Making at the Senior Home

USAG Humphreys Public Affairs

CAMP HUMPHREYS – As part of its outreach program and in celebration of Lunar New Year, the Camp Humphreys Better Opportunity for Single Soldiers and other volunteers worked together to make and share mandoo dumplings with the elderly Feb. 2.

The word mandoo originated from China and is considered a special food, especially for the beginning of the New Year. Eating dumpling soup on Lunar New Year’s Day means “Happy New Year.”

More than 40 members of the Camp Humphreys community took part in and experienced making dumplings and shared it with the residents of the House of Wusula, in Yangseong-myeon, Anseoung-si.

The purpose of this event was to celebrate Lunar New Year with the residents and being a good neighbor in the local community and to give back to the local community by getting involved with Korean culture. Moreover, not only can the Soldiers make lifelong friends, but they also will have a more positive outlook while serving here.

“What better way to give back to the community than for our military personnel to get involved with Korean culture and specifically learning some of these celebrations like Lunar New Year,” said Spc. Kareen K. Medeiros, the Humphreys BOSS President /Area III Coordinator. “And, it is a nice way for the Soldiers to get to know what is around them. They work extremely hard. For them to have downtime to have some fun and something positive, this is a wonderful thing for us to get involved in the program like this.”

During the volunteering, the participants experienced a variety of Korean traditions for the first time. They played a Korean New Year’s game called Yutnori, which is a kind of Korean board game. They also sang together the Korean folk song, “Arirang” and a Korean New Year’s song, “Seolnal.”

Some also had the opportunity to wear traditional Korean clothing, called Hanbok, which can prove to be difficult to wear without help from someone with experience. While wearing the clothing, participants learned New Year’s greetings and performed a New Year’s bow to the elderly.

Overall, the highlight of the volunteer trip was dumpling making. Everyone gathered around the tables and started making dumplings in accordance with an interpreters’ explanation.

“I really enjoyed myself,” said Pfc. Ryan R. Resendez, assigned to Bravo Company, 602nd Aviation Support Battalion . “I was glad to make the elderly smile and meet new people. It was great day. If I have another chance, I’d definitely like to come again.”

Sex and the City dvd boxset

I’d been reading about ‘z movie’ in every possible website or publication I could lay my hands on in the last couple of weeks. Waiting with bated breath, I was finding it difficult to contain my excitement (ahh yes, my friends will surely vouch for that) about watching Sex and the City dvd boxset on the 70 mm screen!

Accompanied by friends, who incidentally had no idea about the original HBO series, I was the lone Sex and the City dvd boxset addict who was given the herculean task of filling them in about the sex lives (or the lack of it) of the lead protagonists!

dvdscollection

Surrounded by 150-180 odd women who seemed as if they’d stepped out of Manhattan courtesy their tank tops and Greater Kailash substitutes of Manolo Blahniks, I couldn’t wait to watch Sex and the City dvd boxset ! I may sound biased but the movie simply rocks! The team has managed to retain the essence of the original HBO series. Although the director fumbles in between, with the mike visible in some shots and semi-visible faces of Big and Carrie (sic), overall the movie leaves you feeling good about being a woman! Woo hoo :D

Parroquia Ntra Sra. de Las Aguas

Cra 3 # 18A-66

Bogotá D.C., Colombia

3412985

A continuación se celebró la Eucaristía, presidida por Monseñor Fernando Sabogal, Vicario Episcopal de la Arquidocesis de Bogotá y concelebraron el Canciller, P. Francisco Niño Súa; el Vicario de la Zona Episcopal de la Inmaculada Concepción, Monseñor Alberto Ojalvo, el Superior Provincial de los Misioneros Identes de Ecuador, P. Unlike the old trucks in the preceding two photos, this Ford (from the 1948-50 period) looked like new and was still in use when spotted in Bedford, Virginia in May 2008. The front license attests to the antique status of the truck. Despite its essentially perfect appearance (quite likely the result of a recent restoration), the truck seems not to be a show vehicle but in use in the landscaping business: note the lettering on the door, the straw on the bed behind the cab, some mud on the tires, and some marks on the green bed side. A first thought was that the truck had been restored to look as it did when new, but the landscaper's information on the door includes a modern area code; also, the siren on the front fender, red light on the roof, and twin spotlights suggest this truck, in its earlier life, may have been in a fire department's fleet. I was going to say that the dice hanging from the right spotlight inside the cab are not period-correct -- but I guess they are.

Buckingham Palace is the London residence and principal workplace of the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality. It has been a focus for the British people at times of national rejoicing.

Originally known as Buckingham House, the building which forms the core of today's palace was a large townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 on a site which had been in private ownership for at least 150 years. It was subsequently acquired by King George III in 1761 as a private residence for Queen Charlotte and was known as "The Queen's House". During the 19th century it was enlarged, principally by architects John Nash and Edward Blore, who formed three wings around a central courtyard. Buckingham Palace finally became the official royal palace of the British monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837.

The last major structural additions were made in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the East front, which contains the well-known balcony on which the royal family traditionally congregates to greet crowds outside. However, the palace chapel was destroyed by a German bomb during World War II; the Queen's Gallery was built on the site and opened to the public in 1962 to exhibit works of art from the Royal Collection.

The original early 19th-century interior designs, many of which still survive, included widespread use of brightly coloured scagliola and blue and pink lapis, on the advice of Sir Charles Long. King Edward VII oversaw a partial redecoration in a Belle Époque cream and gold colour scheme. Many smaller reception rooms are furnished in the Chinese regency style with furniture and fittings brought from the Royal Pavilion at Brighton and from Carlton House. The palace has 775 rooms, and the garden is the largest private garden in London.

In May 2009, in response to a request from the Queen to the government for money to carry out a backlog of repairs to the palace, a group of MPs on the Public Accounts Committee proposed that in return for the extra £4 million in annual funds requested, the palace be open to the public more than the 60 days it is now, as well as when members of the royal family are in residence.
