Took this photo to make a card for three young friends who live in Oxfordshire. I call them my "great friends" as opposed to "grandchildren". The card accompanied the wonderful wolf on its way to their home. I used the image as a Zoom background in a meeting, and amused colleagues with my story of going into the wood, with a tripod, setting the camera to timer, running in front and putting the puppet on ready for the photo. I wondered what passersby might think watching me. This morning one of the great friends encouraged me to put it on Flickr. So here it is.

Parallel tasting of two dark beers from Two Chefs Brewing in Amsterdam at Kafé België in Utrecht, Netherlands.
The bottle on the left is Two Chefs Dirty Katarina, a 10.5% abv Russian imperial stout. Very soft mouthfeel but full bodied, with a fairly roasted character and some hop bitterness in the finish.
The bottle on the right is Two Chefs Howling Wolf, an 8% abv imperial porter. It was rich and creamy with dark chocolate and licorice. Nice bitter finish with a long aftertaste.

Got to Give it Up- Marvin Gaye
Open with an odd one... a particularly long song, but FUNKY AS FUCK! Mmmmm. And the sentiment is sweet, and like myself, basically he used to go to parties and be too shy to "give it up' and dance... but learnt that you just gotta. TARANTISM. I and i deny you not to give it up and wiggle those hips a little when listening to this! So should be a good opener.
Also considered sunny by marv or ain't no mountain high enough. He is also ashamedly the only representative of the soul greats on this comp. Big props to Stevie Curtis, Herbie, Bill and the rest.... Love you guys, you make my life worthwhile!
True Skool-Coldcut featuring Roots Manuva
Just a FUCKING AWESOME TUNE. from the start all the way through. Coldcut at there best.. And everything Mr Manuva touches turns to Gold. This is such a repeatable tune!
Could have had a number of other tunes from Manuva MC, particuarlly Witness or dreamy days, which is quite sublime.
Get a Move on-Mr. Scruff
Just do... get a moove on, longer than i thought, but a great tune! Always!
Al;so worth notoing the greatness of Mr Scruff's UG
DJ format featuring abdominal "I'm good"
Best turntable and Emceeing skill going for my mind. and the title is obviously quite appropriate!
"Ohmega Watts" "That sound"
Grate tune, a new introduction... big thanks to the funky white boy, bit of agrower, but cool intelligent well produced hip-hop. And the refernce to Jam master J is so worthy!
Also the sun setting song on this album is a good laid back tune.
coffee in the pot-Supergrass
A lovely interlude. Supergrass haven't put a foot wrong in over 10 years, deserve so much credit.
Other great supergrass tunes include the obvious but particularly sitting up straight, she's so loose and b-sides off pumping on your stereo... Sick and you'll never walk again. Also as an intermission track i'd've licked to include would be soul limbo by booker t and the MG's, used to be the track they used for the cricket. lovely stuff.
Lookin' out my back door: Creedence Clearwater revival
Coz i am a dude, wanting to be THE Dude. Great tune, great movie, great scene, great album, great band.
Here as a replacement is the possibility of either just stopped in (to see what condition my condition was in) which is classic, or Lujon or Heard it through the grapevine by CCR which is one of the most accomplished Covers ever!
Stereotype-The Specials
Listen to the lyrics and you'll understand. So autobiographical it hurts. Also considered Alcohol or too much too young or friday night, saturday morning... But this beat them all. Lovin’ the 2 tone
little wing-Jimi Hendrix
A BEAUTIFUL SONG
killing floor - howling Wolf
The Original and still the best. Classically covered as the Lemon Song by the Zep!
Ramble On; led zeppelin
Partly to do with the whole travellin’ on thing etc, but it also is probably my TOP rock song ever! In the words of Bob Dylan “Play it Fuckin’ LOUD”
You can't go home again DJ Shadow
Notice another reference to the moving on / travelling thing. But this also a very cruisy nice tune, head bobby indeed.
March of the swivelheads-The Beat
You may well remember this from the end sequence in Ferris Buller when he is chasing his parents home. Wicked tune as well. Took a bit of tracking down.
Change(Letterman show -Blind Melon
Need an entry from Blind Melon in somewhere.. I like the version iof this song, also the Change blah blah, what with change of situation and everything!
If you want me to Stay: sly & the Family
Best song EVER" FACT, well opinion actually!
If I could only listen to 1 song for the rest of my life… this would be it. No. 1. and has been for a very long time!
It's not an easy place to get to if you dont have your own transport. I'd phoned the only taxi in town (Cleveland, Mississippi) to get me there. He said he'd pick me up in half an hour but actually turned up 2 hours later. That's 'Mississippi Time' for you! It's normal apparently :-) When I finally got here it was close to dusk and the light was going fast, but I managed to get a few shots in before it went completely.
So here we are at the old Dockery Plantation out on Highway 8 several miles east of Cleveland, which is situated on Highway 61(the so called 'Blues Highway') down which I'd travelled from Memphis by Greyhound (well technically Delta Bus Lines but my Greyhound pass was nevertheless good to go, so what's in a name). As the sign says Dockery was once home to such legendary blues singers as Henry Sloan one of the earliest known figures in the history of Blues music, Charley Patton (one of the very first blues artists to actually record), Willy Brown (a known associate and travelling companion of the legendary Robert Johnson), and the great Howling Wolf. All these guys would have spent at least part of their life here as plantation workers and of course would certainly have been entertaining their fellow workers and share croppers.

An adult alpha male eastern coyote skuling in the spring. The Coyote , Canis latrans, runs with it's tail down, unlike domestic dogs with their tail up or wolves with their tail straight. Known as the best runner among the canids, the Coyote cruises at 25-30 mph (40-50km/h), with a top speed of 40 mph (65 km/h). Always an opportunist, Coyotes eat small mammals like mice, squirrels and rabbits, as well as birds, frogs, toads snakes, insects and fruit.

I hear your voice on the wind
And I hear you call out my name
"Listen, my child," you say to me
"I am the voice of your history
Be not afraid, come follow me
Answer my call, and I'll set you free"
I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice, I will remain
I am the voice in the fields when the summer's gone
The dance of the leaves when the autumn winds blow
Ne'er do I sleep thoughout all the cold winter long
I am the force that in springtime will grow
I am the voice of the past that will always be
Filled with my sorrow and blood in my fields
I am the voice of the future, bring me your peace
Bring me your peace, and my wounds, they will heal
I am the voice in the wind and the pouring rain
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice that always is calling you
I am the voice
I am the voice of the past that will always be
I am the voice of your hunger and pain
I am the voice of the future
I am the voice, I am the voice
I am the voice, I am the voice

'Dockery Plantation was a 10,000-acre (40 km2) cotton plantation and sawmill on the Sunflower River between Ruleville and Cleveland, Mississippi. It is widely regarded as the place where Delta blues music was born.Blues musicians residents at Dockery included Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson[???] and Howlin' Wolf. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
The plantation was started in 1895 by Will Dockery (1865-1936), a graduate of the University of Mississippi who originally bought the land for its timber but recognised the richness of its soil. At the time, much of the Delta area was still a wilderness of cypress and gum trees, roamed by panthers and wolves and plagued with mosquitoes. The land was gradually cleared and drained for cotton cultivation, which encouraged an influx of black labourers. Some became settled sharecroppers, who would work a portion of the land in return for a share of the crop, while others were itinerant workers. Dockery earned a good reputation for treating his workers and sharecroppers fairly, and thus attracted workers from throughout the South.
Charley Patton and his family are believed to have moved around 1900 to the Dockery Plantation, where he came under the influence of an older musician, Henry Sloan. In turn, Patton became the central figure of a group of blues musicians including Willie Brown, Tommy Johnson, and Eddie "Son" House, who played around the local area.Because of its location, central to Sunflower County’s black population of some 35,000 in 1920,the plantation became a known centre for informal musical entertainment. By the mid-1920s, the group widened to include a younger generation of musicians including Robert Johnson, Chester "Howlin’ Wolf" Burnett, Roebuck "Pops" Staples, and David "Honeyboy" Edwards. Some of these were itinerant workers while others lived more permanently on the farms.
In 1936, the plantation was inherited by Joe Rice Dockery (1906-1982). With agricultural mechanisation and the employment attractions of the larger cities further north, the plantation settlements gradually disappeared, although some of the historic buildings still remain. The farm later diversified to produce corn, rice and soybeans. Later members of the Dockery family have established a foundation to fund research into the Delta Blues. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Today the site hosts a small number of private tours, lectures, and events in partnership with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Delta State University, and other academic and cultural institutions.' ... and now here's some music by Pop Staples: Down In Mississippi
As many of you know, we're lucky enough to get to travel the world, but sometimes the most fun can be found in your own back yard. So we took a trip out to the Wolf Creek Habitat today, ostensibly to shoot wolves in the snow. But I loved this shot with one howling, the other licking, so I've posted it instead. Wolf Creek is about 45 minutes outside of Cincinnati, near Brookville, Indiana. I still cannot get over how cool it is to hang out with a pack of wolves, and today I had one lick my face, and slightly more problematically, lick the front of my lens :-). They are beautiful creatures, not frightening at all, just impressive. You can find out more about Wold Creek, and find a bunch of great photos by Kathy, who runs the center, here www.wolfcreekhabitat.org .

New box creation from my mom (Nancy). It's a chipwood box, and the wolf is polymer clay. Everything was painted with acrylics, and has a protective sealer over it. It's about 6 3/4" around, and 2 3/4" deep, lined with felt.
Very cool:-)
