I will gather myself tomorrow -or maybe a few days later because there's a lot of work to do- and I'll write a proper post about travelling across Romania by train and drilling mountain lakes in Bukovina, but I can tell you already that this journey was amazing. Sometimes I was so alone (in mostly a good way) and sometimes I was completely surrounded and taken care of.

Ah, the Monday after Easter! I can start to relax. Today, my camera will get some exercise, so I'll experience some well-needed recovery time. I also need to buy a car this week!
As for Mojo, the howler monkey, he's just complaining that someone is cleaning his enclosure. Mojo seems to have it backwards; I'd love someone to come and clean mine!
The grey wolf or gray wolf (Canis lupus), also known as the timber wolf or simply wolf.
Wolf howls, which can last from 0.5-11 seconds, typically have a frequency of 150-780 Hz.Howling helps pack members keep in touch, allowing them to communicate effectively in thickly forested areas or over great distances. Howling also helps to call pack members to a specific location. Howling can also serve as a declaration of territory, as shown in a dominant wolf's tendency to respond to a human imitation of a "rival" wolf in an area the wolf considers its own. This behavior is stimulated when a pack has something to protect, such as a fresh kill. As a rule of thumb, large packs will more readily draw attention to themselves than will smaller packs. Adjacent packs may respond to each others' howls, which can mean trouble for the smaller of the two. Wolves therefore tend to howl with great care.
Wolves will also howl for communal reasons. Some scientists speculate that such group sessions strengthen the wolves' social bonds and camaraderie—similar to community singing among humans.
During such choral sessions, wolves will howl at different tones and varying pitches, making it difficult to estimate the number of wolves involved. This confusion of numbers makes a listening rival pack wary of what action to take. For example, confrontation could be disastrous if the rival pack gravely underestimates the howling pack's numbers. A wolf's howl may be heard from up to ten miles (16 km) away, depending on weather conditions.
Observations of wolf packs suggest that howling occurs most often during the twilight hours, preceding the adults' departure to the hunt and following their return. Studies also show that wolves howl more frequently during the breeding season and subsequent rearing process.
The pups themselves begin howling soon after emerging from their dens and can be provoked into howling sessions easily over the following two months. Such indiscriminate howling usually is intended for communication, and does not harm the wolf so early in its life.
Howling becomes less indiscriminate as wolves learn to distinguish howling pack members from rival wolves. The Arabian and Iranian wolf subspecies are unusual as they are not known to howl.
Words can not express what it is like to have a coyote howl right beside you. This was taken on the sleigh ride at the National Elk Refuge just outside of Jackson. I would recommend this to anyone. It was a wonderful and educational ride. This particular ride there were several coyotes around. I was suprised at how bold they were around the elk. Most of the elk didn't even pay attention to them but, sadly there was one in the back that was hurt. Many coyote were surrounding it and waiting for it to pass. Very sad but a part of the cycle of life. The guide said they were howling because they had found their next prey.

At some time, they all started to howl, it was just awesome to hear them, I was like in another world! They were like a pack of wolves!
Of course I took pictures, here is one of them!
And for those who ask if they were cuddly, yes they were, maybe too much, it was hard to leave them! (I wanted to take some home ;)
This is an experience I will never get tired. I went to Wolf Park in Germany (www.wolfspark-wernerfreund.de/) and to my delight the timber wolves gave me a concert just as I was leaving
I had to convert the video to be able to load it, and so it lost quality, but it’s mainly the sound which matters

The Seas of Howling Winds
2133
Climate change has gone deeper than humanity thought... huge storms have devastated metropolises and industrial poles.
A great lull ensued in which ancient inland oceans and great seas evaporated.
Shipwrecks and the wreckage of a civilization allowed the construction of a new dispersed society that wanders along ancient tidal beaches and deserts that were once navigable seas.
Humanity now faces survival in structures built with the wreckage of its own past in the so-called Desert Seas or as many call it The Seas Of Howling Winds ...
For the winds no longer bring good news but wails and howls of despair...

These trees at the edge of a copse in Ty Canol looked evil; the wind and rain contributing to the atmopshere. Removing the fence from this has proven to be very therapeutic!
eerie full moon last night...almost could hear wolves howling or at least the neighborhood cats... ^^

While hiking through the jungle with my son at Muyil Mexico I heard the unmistakable sound of howler monkeys howling from the trees where we had just been. We walked back and watched them howling for a while till they calmed down. I don't know what set them off but it appeared to be a male and the female he was probably protecting as well as the trees he was protecting for their family.
