Granular debris flows are found in many young impact craters and are the products of masswasting. Over time, material from the crater rim and walls erodes into successively finer particles, and when the influence of gravity becomes too much this material moves downhill. Observations of mass-wasted material are prevalent in this LROC NAC image, and the detailed morphology of the flows are striking. Examples are composed of low-reflectance material when compared to the crater walls, fine-grained fingers superposing coarser-grained flows, as well as meandering flows interweaved with one another. Although debris flows on the Moon exhibit many spectacular morphologies and features, the resence of the flows represents relatively recent activity of a geologic process that is still active today.
Some debris flows show evidence of multiple formation events in the form of superposed lobes of material or braided channels, and this image is no exception. The debris flow descending across the center of the image (51.725°S, 347.058°E) has braided, meandering channels at the upper left (uphill) that gradually disappear downslope into larger lobes of material. The lobes are most easily distinguished at the lower right corner of the image (downhill) where the flow terminates, and there are at least three individual flow units (and thus separate depositional events) that can be distinguished by a faint outline of higher-reflectance material. However, what makes this flow special is the ~13 m diameter impact crater superposed on the flow because both of these features are geologically young. The presence of an impact crater on a debris flow suggests that the flow may not be geologically active at present and may not have been geologically active for some time (although constraining that time period is difficult).

The surface of a millstone is divided by deep grooves called furrows into separate flat areas called lands. Spreading away from the furrows are smaller grooves called feathering or cracking. The furrows and lands are arranged in repeating patterns called harps. A typical millstone will have six, eight or ten harps. The grooves provide a cutting edge and help to channel the ground flour out from the stones. When in regular use stones need to be dressed periodically, that is, re-cut to keep the cutting surfaces sharp.
Millstones come in pairs. The base or bedstone is stationary. Above the bedstone is the turning runner stone which actually does the grinding. The runner stone is supported by a cross-shaped metal mill rynd fixed to a "mace head" topping the main shaft or spindle leading to the driving mechanism of the mill (either water or wind powered). The pattern of harps is repeated on the face of each stone, when they are laid face to face the patterns mesh in a kind of "scissoring" motion creating the cutting or grinding function of the stones.
Millstones need to be evenly balanced, and achieving the correct separation of the stones is crucial to producing good quality flour. The experienced miller will be able to adjust their separation very accurately.

Poor focusing on my part, but I reckon this is how Colin would have taken this corner, over the grass and close to the tree.
I was asked to make an Xbox controller Groom's cake for my friend Mikie's wedding reception. Here are the steps it took to make this cake a success.
STEP ONE: I baked two rectangular layers of milk chocolate cake, placed buttercream filling between the layers, and used a stencil I created on my computer to cut the cake into the correct shape.
I love how the guitar looks so lonely in this photo because of the dark background I tried to add to. Originally, this one had a bright background thanks to the natural source of light, but then I edited the brightness to make it darker.

At Flock we have started reading/working through Keri Smith's 'How to Be An Explorer of the World'.
Sadly, Flockmates, this is the only one I did this past week due to a myriad of factors not worth going into, but I hope this week will go better. I certainly have plenty of ideas. I've singled out pages that especially excite me with adhesive tabs. How about you?

A friend of mine brought her little boy over to see Miley and also to ride her dam, Valentine. He is the sweetest little boy who loves animals so much.
I loved how they formed a little parade in the first photo :)
This little filly is for sale, btw, if anyone wants me to put them in touch with her owner :)

Anita Goodesign 10th Anniversary Embroidery Party - Phoenix, AZ
The speaker is Steve Wilson, owner and Master Digitizer of Anita Goodesign. There were 180 attendees, mostly women and a couple of men. Steve's wife, Aundrea, and the entire Mulqueen staff were there to make sure that machines were stitching smoothly and that we all had a good time, which of course, we did!
