A strange combination made by shadows and the wheels cover made this Land Rover Defender looking like is hovering. We were in a group and we were going up toward the Teide volcano in Tenerife

Hoverflies are good to photograph because they stay still much longer than other insects :D

Whatever is lovely. It is the small things that get me through.

Although this shot appears somewhat surreal / alien-like, the shot was taken in my own backyard.

The only manipulation was auto-adjustment on the tone, contrast and colour.

If you like this shot I think you can attribute it to the Nikkor 70-300 mm lens, taken at the full 300mm with the Nikon D90. No, I am not on commision :-) I am just amazed at some of the pleasing results with this lens!

Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000)

Aperture: f/5.6

Focal Length: 300 mm

ISO Speed: 200

Photoshop CS4 used to auto-adjust: tone / contrast / colour

Kestrel at Seaton, Cornwall

I think it is a hover fly but have no idea of ID so if anyone can make a suggestion that would be welcomed.

It was taking advantage of some weak sunshine after rain all morning.

Thanks to John who suggested an ID that I have amended the title.

These are mods of Artasid's Hover Frames.

More colors, more leg designs, though the tan one uses 1x1 with two corner side studs for the rear core bricks.

Today' story and sketch "by me" you see Scoop Gofish in

the Hover Gas emergency worm hole patrol glider.

(Hover Gas is an Anion Gas, used in many anti gravity propulsion systems). Scoop is heading into the Wonder World Hover Gas Galaxy Headquarters to fill his tanks and see his girlfriend Mandy Kagler, she is the Hover Gas worm hole patrol dispatcher, Scoop and Mandy have been dating for 72 years,

and are planning a big combination wedding and retirement party

on Mars next spring. Until then Scoop travels back and forth through worm holes helping stranded intergalactic travelers, (stranded because they were lame, lazy or just to excited to get away), and not notice the Anti Gravity Fuel Gage before embarking on a journey into a worm hole to some location in a galaxy far far away.

While on the Galaxy far away subject, the best man for

Scoop and Mandy's wedding will be (Rescue Randy, the most interesting Anatomically correct crash test dummy, and

Intergalactic Bounty Hunter, who once dated Mandy, but is currently far away tracking Dibbly Doogan, who escaped from the Flip Flop Maximum Security Prison Resort on Lippo the Blue Moon, where he was doing a 200 years to life sentence for leaving his wife Shanequa and 17 of their children with her Mom and Dad (Dad who just happens to be Warden of the Flip Flop Resort), while Dibbly was off on Mongona Five with his buddies ice fishing, Mongona Five happens to be a very cold and all female Planet, at least it was until the fisherman arrived, but that is a story for anther time.

Randy is quite familiar with Mongona Five, himself having

spent quite a bit of time there when he was dating a Mongona

Five Princess, it is probably, where he will start his search for Mr Dibbly Doogan.

Until next time taa ta the Rod Blog.

#6 Insect

I'm not a fan of bugs or insects so this is pretty much the best I'm going to do for this topic.
