All kinds of flies were attracted to these flowers. It was fascinating to observe

Part of a long-planned series of cameo shots of my niece in full Victorian-era mourning dress on location in a remote woodland burial ground. I paused shooting momentarily for some camera adjustments. When I looked up she appeared to be levitating off the ground like some dark version of Mary Poppins. It seemed completely unnatural yet somehow perfect for this time and place. I go into situations like this with pre-planned ideas on how to compose shots. But often the best ones are spontaneous and can't be anticipated. Best to allow for things like this and let events unfold as they will.

Taken at Southmoor, Havant, yesterday, with the Fuji X-H2s and the 150-600mm, where this male kestrel put on a good, though brief, display. I do prefer to shoot Kestrel head on but this one appeared v shortly after my arrival and I didn’t even have time to attach the monopod.

Common Tern in hover mode at Brandon Marsh, I ask you to view it here please On Black

Was working on some more 3 drop shots last night. Sometimes it is very challenging to get the right timing. With this one here, I didn't quite get that second impact but I'm ok with that because I really like the way the initial impact has spread out and the 3rd drop is just hovering above.

To me there's a sense of anticipation. What will happen when that drop does connect? How will it look? So while a bit different from my initial intention, I'm happy with my creation.

This one was created with water mixed with some guar gum. The drop was colored with blue food coloring and the basin was colored with yellow, although not much of that seems to come out.

As always, thanks for viewing and comments are welcomed and appreciated.

I was wanderging around my neighbour's garden when this strange insect landed. It looks a little like a hover fly, but the eye is something that I haven't seen before. These are full frame photos and not cropped. The last photo shows that the fly is the size of a hover fly but a bit more chunky. Thank you Darrel for your ID.

Hover Flies ( known in America as Flower Flies ) belong to a large family of small to big flies. They are true flies or Diptera, with only one pair of wings in the Family Syrphidae. ( Wasps and bees have two pairs ).

These hover flies always look like the thugs of the insect world but they have their place and as you can see they like the finer things in life having chosen this bramble flower to provide a snack.

A little something different for Febrovery, here are some simple hovercraft-style rovers, that I affectionately termed Hover Pods. I'm not sure these fall strictly within the Febrovery guidelines for rovers, but thought everyone might enjoy them anyway. So....enjoy!!!

These are mods of Artasid's Hover Frames.

Altering the design further, replacing the inverted round tile with 2x2 brackets. Also realized that I could turn the rear core 1x1 bricks with side studs to face backwards and the frame would hold together fine.

Great Wall Hover in Bonn, Germany.

Nice young man was kind enough to let me take his picture. Naples, FL.

these hover flies are so funny, they seem to watch you as they hover in front of you, as you get closer, they buzz off and do it all again, i have managed to get one to land on my hand, they have a wash and rest then up they go to hover again in the same spot

Another view of a different one. If this little guy is a hover fly, it must have been a baby!
