After lunch today I walked over to the flowering plants on the south side of the swimming pool in the gated community that I live in to see if there was something new that I could take photos of and I observed and photographed 2 different syrphid flies species, this one being the smaller of the 2. This Bird Hover Fly is resting on a retaining rock wall that supports the flowering plants. I posted this image in BugGuide,Net and Ken Wolgemuth identified it as a Bird Hover Fly, a male.
Daddy was building a hover truck for Georges' World so I build one too. Mine is a delivery truck. I had the idea for the wheels for hover engines first, Daddy copied mine :-P
I spotted this as I drove past this afternoon and didn't have a camera with me other than my iPhone which is useless.
I went back again later and although the full on sunshine of earlier had gone away it still looked great. I had to park very illegally and hover suspiciously on the opposite side of the road with my camera waiting for a break in the constant stream of traffic. I think it was worth the wait!
I have been reliably informed that it's a quote from Leonard Cohen's 1966 novel Beautiful Losers.
This juvenile ruby-throated hummingbird kept hovering and chirping next to us while we were sitting on the deck. I wondered if it was seeing the red hummer feeder reflected in my camera lens. Or maybe it was thanking us for filling the feeder and thrilled that the dominant male was letting it feed.

Few weeks ago I saw pictures of Lego 76115 Spider-Man Mech vs. Venom Mech and there is cute hover surf in this set. And I thought the paddle board like that would be nice.
I know you do not need paddle in the sky when you have hover board with jet engine but I like it ^^
Bird was hovering over water looking for fish, it was ultimately successful, diving into the water and grabbing fish with it's talons. Taken along Four Mile Run in Arlington/Alexandria, VA.

These are mods of Artasid's Hover Frames.
Altering the design further, replacing the inverted round tile with 2x2 brackets. Also realized that I could turn the rear core 1x1 bricks with side studs to face backwards and the frame would hold together fine.
He was eyeing something under the water in the pond below, and hovered overhead for a good 30 seconds, which also served to freak out all the coots below
This tiny terror was coming in for a landing at my sister's feeder this afternoon. I used a 300 mm lens with a 1.4 teleconverter, so with the multiplication factor of 1.5 it was effectively a 630 mm lens. This is quite a tight crop to make this bird look so big. This was taken with a shutter speed of 1/3000 second, so you can imagine how fast its wings were beating.
More hummingbird pictures are in my Hummingbird set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157627149575339/.

First time building imperial vehicles! Did you know in-universe, they were supposed to have tracks and not hover?
I have been so stoked this week to capture some beautiful photos of the Eastern Spinebill feeding early in the morning on a tall hedge of grevillea at our home. The yellow winter leaves of the Jacaranda behind it provide lovely golden green tones in the bokeh. It has been really interesting watching these birds feed. They are happy to sit and feed on the flower for awhile, but then they like to hover and feed on the very tip of the flower. It has been really fun to try to capture these beautiful little birds in the process of hovering. This shot is one of my favourite.

Shot last week at Farlington Marshes with the Fuji gear, when this female Kestrel put on a good show, hunting close by on several occasions.
This lovely pink Herb Robert Blossom is one of many growing in the shady part of my backyard under the pines.
This fly species is in the Syrphid Fly family, commonly called Flower Flies. As adults these flies are important pollinators. As larvae, many species are considered beneficial in that they eat other insects, often injurious to plants, such as aphids.
