My first Car was a Renault 5, it was a Green 1300 GTL UUT 310S and it never looked this Good or went that fast!!! :-)

The Renault 5 Turbo 2 was at The Classic Motor Show at The NEC in Birmingham. Down Loaded from my Sony Smart Phone with the Flickr App.

Apologies for the lack of uploads lately. Dangerously low on content combined with selling my laptop and having to wait for my new one to arrive as well has meant content uploading has been lil difficult!

Originally developed by TWR for the one make race series and based on the second generation Renault Clio the car is a mid-engine rear wheel drive sport compact Designed by French automaker Renault the Phase 1 models were built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) in Uddevalla, Sweden and Phase 2 were designed and hand built by Renault Sport in Dieppe, France. Both variants were developed by TWR. The mid-engined, wide-body concept of the Clio V6 was very reminiscent of the 1980s Renault 5 Turbo

The Phase 1 was based on the Clio Mk II, though it shares very few parts with that car. The 3.0 60° V6 ES9 engine, sourced from the PSA group was upgraded to around 230 PS and mounted amid ship dissplacing 227bhp In order to accommodate the radical change from front-engine, front-wheel drive hatchback to mid-engine, rear-wheel drive two-seater quasi-coupé, the car had to be extensively reworked structurally, leading to the Phase 1 version being some 300 kg heavier than the "regular" Clio, There were 1,555 production cars built in total between 2001 and 2002.

The Phase 2 was built between 2003-05 At the time of its launch in 2003, the upgraded Phase 2 Clio V6 was the most powerful serial produced hot hatch in the world with 255 PS (252bhp) The Clio V6 Phase 2 gained even more weight, but offset it with an additional 25 horsepower. This resulted in a reduced 0–60 mph (97 km/h) run at 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 153 mph (246 km/h). The Phase 2 Clio V6 retailed for £27,125 in the United Kingdom, until it was withdrawn from sale in 2005 coinciding with a facelift for the Clio range. here were 1,309 production cars built in total between 2003 and 2005

The Chrysler Sunbeam had been aimed at the super-mini sector when launched in 1977. But it was felt that a hot hatch was needed to boost the sporty image. To this end the Chrysler Sunbeam Ti was launched in 1979 with a 1600 cc twin Weber carbs and an output of 100 bhp

Chrysler had also commissioned Lotus to develope a rally version. The car was unveiled at the 1979 Geneva Motor show , but the road going version was not offered to the public until after the re-branding and became the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. With a 2172 cc version of the Lotus 2.0 ltr 16v slant valve engine and ZF gearbox. both mounted in the car at Ludham Airfield, close to the Lotus facility in Hethel, Norfolk, where the almost-complete cars were shipped from Linwood. Final inspection, in turn, took place in Stoke, Coventry In road trim, the type 911 engine produced 150 bhp increased to 250bhp in rallying trim. The Sunbeam Lotus was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in April 1979, but the road-going version of the rally car was not ready for deliveries to the public until after the rebranding, and thus became the "Talbot Sunbeam Lotus". At first these were produced mostly in black and silver, although later models came in a moonstone blue and silver (or black) scheme. The car saw not only enthusiastic press reviews, but also much success in the World Rally Championship - in 1980, Henri Toivonen won the 29th Lombard RAC Rally in one, and, in 1981, the Sunbeam Lotus brought the entire manufacturer's championship to Talbot

This is one of the rare late build DAC registered Lotus Sunbeams in moonstone blue with black decals as sold by Arbury Service Station

The Austin Maestro was launched in 1983 as a 5 door compact hatchback, together with a 1600cc MG version, powered by a Rover R Series engine with twin Weber carburettors. The R series engine proved troublesome, to srart when warm and its Weber carburettors were problematic to dealership workshops, who were used to SU carburettors. The R Series engine was dropped in July 1984, replaced by a short lived S series engine until the end of the 1984 model year

The 2.0EFi was introduced as its replacement in October 1984 for the 1985 model year. The fuel-injected 2.0-litre O-series engine gave a much better performance and handling was also improved handling was also improved giving Austin-Rover a serious competitor in the VW Golf GTi, Ford Escort XR3i market.

The EFi was joined in 1989 by the MG Maestro Turbo, a car capable of 130mph.

The fist-generation Honda City - Honda Jazz in Europe - was a subcompact hatchback. While the city's layout was traditional for its category, with FWD and a transversely mounted engine, its relatively upright seating arrangement was innovative, creating legroom comparable to larger cars. This, combined with class-leading fuel economy, led to it being a rapid and considerable success in the Japanese domestic market. It was also available with the Motocompo, a special 50 cc folding scooter constructed to fit in the City's small luggage area. This is a rare Turbo with special body panels.

The front of a Rover Metro as you've never seen one before. Spot lamps galore, skirting and bits of plastic all over to make this small sedate hatchback into one hell of a mean machine. The engine in the back is more like a rocket than an engine, this car is probably faster than anything else you've been in on the road.

Legend among legends, the 205 GTI 1.6 is unanimously acclaimed in 1984 by journalists and enthusiasts. However, as the years go by, the competition changes. The Renault 5 GT Turbo now boasts 120 hp and Volkswagen releases a 16-valve version of its Golf 2. Peugeot then has no choice but to launch a more muscular version of its sacré numéro. The light alloy rims are increased to 15 inches and hide a specific braking system, revised running gear to transfer the power to the magnificent MXV tires in 185/55 - 15 specific to this version. Thanks to this set, the car offers even better performances and a really sporty character, allowing it to compete with the most powerful and prestigious GT of the moment.

The 205 GTI presented here is a 1.9 model put on the road for the first time on July 15th 1988. Graphite grey in color, it is equipped as the only option of the desirable panoramic sunroof. Sold new in Caen, it remains in the hands of the same owner until 2016, who rarely uses it. Still in absolutely new original condition, this exceptional 205 GTI is unique on the market today, offering a low mileage of approximately 42,000 kilometers. Not a single part has been modified or repainted during its life. Parked in a dark and weatherproof location, the overall appearance is new but not restored. The booklet is present with invoices tracing the quiet life of this GTI. The test drive will confirm the unique condition of the car. No noise or vibration disturbed our drive on the small roads of Normandy. The engine takes its rpm well and has great torque. It’s rare to find a beautiful 205 GTI 1.9 that never suffered from the ravages of time. This true second hand is an opportunity not to be missed!

The AKAI GOLF

This car was created as a racing car for Richard Lloyd, prepared by Broadspeed and backed by Volkswagen GB. using a standard 1977 Golf 1600 GTi, the car went on to dominate its class in the British Saloon Car Championship for the next three seasons. Lloyd established the highly successful GTi Engineering and prepared a team of Audi GLEs for himself and Stirling Moss to drive in this season’s Tricentrol-backed Championship. Before his motor Racing career Lloyd was involved in pop star management, managing (the little known) Cliff Richard. Lloyd and the Golf came third overall in the 1977 British Saloon Car Championship and taking the Class Honours. Inspired by this and with support for another season forthcoming from VW, he set up GTi Engineering in March 1978 with Brian Ricketts They developed a brand-new GTi for the 1979 series and took the class again, together with second overall in the Championship. Lloyd used the same car, now with Akai as well as VW backing, to notch up his hat-trick of Championship class wins. This Group 1 GTi took 19 wins from 24 races in two seasons, which included one DNF, in fact it was only beaten by Win Percy’s Toyota. .

The first series delta was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and released in 1979 and introduced in Britain in 1980 they remained almost unchanged until 1986 with small changes to the body shape and engines were uprated. most Delta models were ordinary small family cars but like the Subaru Imprezza have remained more famous for the performance and rally cars

The Integrale was introduced in 1987 and for the first eight months was known simply as the HF 4WD with a 165bhp turbo charged engine. But it became the Integrale wearing flared arches and winning International rallies. Yet it had five doors and remained a practical family hatchback. In 1989 the power was increased to from 185bhp to 200bhp with a 16 valve head finally reaching 210bhp

At the September 1991 Frankfurt Motor Show Lancia introduced an heavily revised Delta HF,[once again named Delta HF integrale—but which became better known as HF integrale "Evoluzione" or simply HF integrale "Evo". . Evoluzione cars were built from October 1991 through 1992. At the end of the victorious 1991 World Rally Championship season, where the HF integrale 16v had won both the drivers' and manufacturers' championship, Lancia officially retired from rallying. The Evoluzione's engine was the same turbocharged 16-valve 2-litre used on the previous model, but power had increased to 210 PS. Mechanical changes included a strengthened steering rack and a power steering oil radiator, reworked and strengthened suspension The braking system featured larger diameter discs and vacuum servo, and fixed two-piston Brembo calipers at the front. No changes were made to the four-wheel-drive system. The wheel arch bulges were consequently extended and made more rounded the bodywork included a new bonnet, front and rear bumpers, box section side skirts, rear doors, and a rear spoiler. The front end was distinguished by twin, smaller diameter round headlamps he bonnet had a wider and taller hump, and new lateral air slats to further assist underbonnet ventilation. The roof spoiler above the tailgate was manually adjustable in three positions. he bonnet had a wider and taller hump, and new lateral air slats to further assist underbonnet ventilation. Toyota GR Yaris (XP210) Circuit 4WD (2020-on) Engine 1618ccc G16E-GTS turbo S3 257bhp

Registration Number MR 09 JWW (DVLA Special issue number)

TOYOTA ALBUM

The Toyota GR Yaris is a sport compact car manufactured since 2020 by Toyota with assistance from the company's Gazoo Racing (GR) division. It is a three-door hatchback which was designed to meet World Rally Championship (WRC) homologation rules. The GR Yaris is available with four-wheel drive alongside other significant modifications which differentiate it from the five-door XP210-series Yaris, with the rear of the car being based upon the larger E210-series Corolla.

Designed by Shota Ito, Takeo Okuno and Cho Byung-kan, The Gazoo Racing WRT team, led by team principal and 4-time WRC champion Tommi Mäkinen, was heavily involved in the design. The challenge was to build a car that was capable of being equipped to race at WRC events, but also suitable for daily driving. It was felt that unlike the standard Yaris the car needed to be three door, have four-wheel drive, a wider rear track and a double wishbone suspension layout to handle significantly increased torque. The design changes required that the GR Yaris be built on a combination between the front end of the standard Yaris' with the rear of the GA-C platform used by the Corolla, To save weight, the GR Yaris also uses aluminium for the front bonnet, boot lid and door panels. It also uses carbon fibre-reinforced plastic for its roof panel which was formed using the sheet moulding compound method

The production car is powered by a Gazoo Racing-built, turbocharged and direct/port-injected 1.6-litre G16E-GTS three-cylinder engine that produces 257 to 268 hp (261-272 PS) varying due to emissions regulations in certain markets. The engine is mated to a 6-speed V16-series intelligent manual transmission, and GR-Four permanent four-wheel drive system. It has a claimed 0-62 mph (0-100kmph) acceleration time of 5.2 to 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 143mph

There are some cars I never see at American classic car shows, despite their increasing vintage and scarcity. Chrysler K-cars, Ford Pintos and Tempos, and Chevrolet Chevettes are examples that come to mind. They were models that never quickened the car enthusiast’s pulse and unlike other makes that were once reviled in popular opinion (Edsels most notably), these cars remain impervious to nostalgia. The Dodge Omni of the late 1970s/1980s is another of the seemingly Unforgiven.

This sighting at a Lakeland FL car show broke that Omni Duck (to use cricketing terminology), but it was not a regular production model but a limited edition Shelby GLH-S of 1986. It incorporated a 2.2 litre intercooler turbo engine plus a sporting suspension. Branded as a Shelby, it is said that GLH-S stood for “Goes Like Hell S’more”. Production was limited to 500 examples.

So yesterday my little Clio turned 1! Have put 5,000 miles on it now and am still impressed with the car greatly! I know lots of people didn't like that it was auto only and said that the auto box wasn't up to standards, but for the majority of my driving, which is in the city, I can't really fault the gearbox, other than when it likes to hang onto 1st and 2nd into the higher rpm range, but what do you expect from a hot hatch? Aim to keep this car another year, then onto bigger and better things!
