Toyota heeft met de nieuwste generatie Yaris het suffe (maar degelijke) imago van zich afgegooid. De standaard Yaris ziet er al niet verkeerd uit, maar het Japanse merk bracht ook een performance variant uit. Met hulp uit eigen stal van Gazoo Racing (GR) is de GR Yaris tot stand gekomen: een compacte hot hatch met een vermogen van 261 pk en een topsnelheid van 230 km/u. Vrij rap, voor een een kleine stadsauto.

The Austin Metro was introduced in 1980 and proved an instant market success. In 1982 the range was expanded to include a luxury Vanden Plas version and a sporty MG version.
The changes between the MG engine and the standard 1275 included a modified cylinder head, with larger valves and improved porting, altered cam profile and larger carburettor leading to a 20% increase in BHP. and in 1983 a hot MG Metro Turbo was introduced. Both MG variants were given a "sporty" interior with red seat belts, red carpets and a sports-style steering wheel. The later MG variants were emblazoned with the MG logo both inside and out, which only served to fuel claims of badge engineering from some of the more steadfast MG enthusiasts. Others believed that this sentiment was unfounded, particularly in the case of the turbo variant, due to the undeniably increased performance and handling when compared to the non-MG models.

The fist-generation Honda City - Honda Jazz in Europe - was a subcompact hatchback. While the city's layout was traditional for its category, with FWD and a transversely mounted engine, its relatively upright seating arrangement was innovative, creating legroom comparable to larger cars. This, combined with class-leading fuel economy, led to it being a rapid and considerable success in the Japanese domestic market. It was also available with the Motocompo, a special 50 cc folding scooter constructed to fit in the City's small luggage area. This is a rare Turbo with special body panels.

Launched in 1976 as a front wheel drive four speed supermini.
Although not the first Ford vehicle to feature front-wheel drive the Fiesta is widely credited as being Ford's first globally successful front-wheel-drive model. UK sales began in January 1977, where it was available from £1,856 for the basic 950 cc-engined model.
The car was available in Europe with a 957 cc (58.4 cu in) I4 (high compression and low compression options) dubbed Valencia after the new Ford plant in Valencia, Spain, 1.1 L and 1.3 L OHV petrol engines and in Base, Popular, L, GL (1978 onward), Ghia and S trim, as well as a van.
A sporting derivative (1.3 L Supersport) was offered in Europe for the 1980 model year, using the 1.3 L (79 cu in) Kent Crossflow engine, effectively to test the market for the similar XR2 introduced a year later, which featured a 1.6-litre version of the same engine. Black plastic trim was added to the exterior and interior. The small square headlights were replaced with larger circular ones, with the front indicators being moved into the bumper to accommodate the change.

The second generation Ibiza was the first fully developed and produced under the ownership of the Volkswagen Audi Group and was based on the Volkswagen A03 platform later used on the Mk.3 Volkswagen Polo.
Available as three or five door hatchback with an Estate and Coupe version known as the Cordoba.
The GTi is the Hot-Hatchback version, with 115 PS (113bhp) placing it below the flagship performance car in the range the Seat 2.0 Cupra
The 6K had a minor facelift in 1996 with the addition of smoother bumpers, new grille, new headlights, trim and some engine changes. the 6K had a second more major facelift in 1999 now designated 6K GP01, and sometimes referred to in the UK as the Mk3) with the same underpinnings as the revised Polo Mk3 launched the following year. The car got revised front and rear styling, trim and interiors
The Ibiza's 1.05, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol, and 1.9 litre Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) and Suction Diesel Injection (SDI) diesel engines were the same as those used in the Volkswagen Polo.
