Launched in 1976 as a front wheel drive four speed supermini.

 

Although not the first Ford vehicle to feature front-wheel drive the Fiesta is widely credited as being Ford's first globally successful front-wheel-drive model. UK sales began in January 1977, where it was available from £1,856 for the basic 950 cc-engined model.

 

The car was available in Europe with a 957 cc (58.4 cu in) I4 (high compression and low compression options) dubbed Valencia after the new Ford plant in Valencia, Spain, 1.1 L and 1.3 L OHV petrol engines and in Base, Popular, L, GL (1978 onward), Ghia and S trim, as well as a van.

 

A sporting derivative (1.3 L Supersport was offered in Europe for the 1980 model year, using the 1.3 L (79 cu in) Kent Crossflow engine, effectively to test the market for the similar XR2 introduced a year later, which featured a 1.6-litre version of the same engine. Black plastic trim was added to the exterior and interior. The small square headlights were replaced with larger circular ones, with the front indicators being moved into the bumper to accommodate the change.

The first series delta was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and released in 1979 and introduced in Britain in 1980 they remained almost unchanged until 1986 with small changes to the body shape and engines were uprated. most Delta models were ordinary small family cars but like the Subaru Imprezza have remained more famous for the performance and rally cars

 

The Integrale was introduced in 1987 and for the first eight months was known simply as the HF 4WD with a 165bhp turbo charged engine. But it became the Integrale wearing flared arches and winning International rallies. Yet it had five doors and remained a practical family hatchback. In 1989 the power was increased to from 185bhp to 200bhp with a 16 valve head finally reaching 210bhp

Originally introduced in 1980 as a mid-engine rear wheel drive challenger to the dominant Lancia Stratos. The Turbo featured a mid mounted 1397 cc Cléon turbocharged engine situated behind the driver in mid body in a modified Renault 5 chassis which in standard form produced 160bhp.

Though it used a modified body from a standard Renault 5, and was badged a Renault 5, the mechanicals were radically different, the most obvious difference being rear-wheel drive and rear-mid-engined instead of the normal version's front-wheel drive and front-mounted engine. At the time of its launch it was the most powerful production French car.

 

Following on from the first 400 cars built for homologation Renault produced a second version, the Renault 5 Turbo 2, containing more stock Renault 5 parts, instead of the many light alloy components in the original 5 Turbo version.

The Turbo 2 was less expensive, but had nearly the same levels of performance, top speed of 200 km/h (120 mph) and 0–100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The Peugeot 205 Gentry was a limited edition version of the 205. It had 1.6 GTI suspension combined with a detuned 105 bhp 1.9 litre engine, but with an automatic gearbox. Only 300 models were made in Sorrento Green (like this one) and Aztec Gold. They came with full leather trim and real wood trim, power steering and heated mirrors.

Shiny new car arrived just in time for it to be driven up to the Lake District. Poor car. The red brake calipers were so lovely as well.

 

(We have this thing about challenging mountain pass roads, you know... ones with massive warning signs of doom.)

 

As an aside – he is happy with the car. I also gave the car my (unapproved) seal of approval on the week of delivery in February, by demanding to be driven to Heston Services when it was way past my bedtime, where I ordered a skinny hot chocolate and brought it back to the car, despite being told that hot drinks were not in the car.

On my way back from the French Riviera I came across a field of classic cars. Even though it looks like the cars have been spending some times in the field, the garage is brand new.

One year ago, there was not a single car to be found on this field!

I got the opportunity to photograph freely. There were some amazing cars.
