I was quite pleased. We entered the area, and I smelled the volcanic rocks before I even saw them. I said "there are volcanic rocks here" just seconds before our guide launched into a geological lesson on how they ended up in the middle of the limestone Mallorca otherwise is composed of.

A passionate spiel on the history of olive oil, and how regulations and commercial greed have ruined the product's taste and longevity.

He carried a bad all the way down the mountain, in the sweltering heat. He also wore two watches and interrupted the tour guide to point out the year in which the current pope had visited Mallorca, apropos of nothing.

She's happy for not having to hike down to the valley floor in the sweltering heat like an insane person.

Johannesburg (a.k.a. iGoli) is going to be a host city for the 2010 Football World Cup. In advance of the tournament, there is frantic construction across the country - a rash of new stadiums, bigger and better roads, hotels, guest houses, liquor stores, brothels, prisons, etc ;-) The Telkom Tower in Hillbrow has had a giant football grafted to its trunk in advance of the tournament. Photographed on the afternoon of December 22, 2009 in Gauteng, South Africa.

"On a dark Desert highway" except its not dark. but I can see the attraction of "Cool wind in my hair", that is if I had any.

The barrenness of the landscape is really the beauty of what is to be seen here, its not the best place to stop for a picnic that's for sure, but the long stretch of highway before me was the photograph I wanted, and that is what I got, nothing else in the frame to distract the viewer.

We are supposed to have 101 degree highs tomorrow! WTF? This is Seattle for goodness sake, not Vegas! Look our weather prediction from our local news doesn't even have the space to indicate triple digits. It will be the hottest day on record in the city if we hit that high. Very few people have AC in their homes here. Ridiculous! Help! Send popsicles!

Salva signaling some secret agent somewhere that now is the time to turn up the heat.

You wait in the car at the side of the road

Let me go and stand awhile

I wanna know you're there

But I want to be alone.

If only for a minute or two

I wanna see what it feels like to be without you

I wanna know the touch of my own skin,

Against the sun against the wind

Salvador has arrangements with several of the farmers to be able to pass through their land, where other hikers are barred because of bad behavior.

When sheep die, especially in winter, the carcass is burned to eliminate whatever disease got them.

MILTON WV: BLENKO GLASS: One of the steps in forming a vase using the glass blowing process.

This man, using his left hand, rolls the glassblowing pipe with its 'blob' of molten glass back and forth across two steel blades while forming the 'blob' into the shape of a vase. To do this he uses the wooden form, or mold, in his right hand.

To keep the mold from catching fire or getting scorched, the man keeps it in a bucket of water in between forming pieces. Not only does this save the wooden mold but it adds a spark of drama when the molten glass hits the moisture and boils it off in a cloud of steam.

DISCLAIMER: I am not sure that 'blob' is the proper technical term, but I think it works.
