In the shadow of the highest peak on Mallorca, Puig Major, ice remained well into summer. Under cover of darkness it was mined and brought down to cool down cellars and protect food.
My first time to see a Joshua Tree! I don't find them the prettiest trees out there but I still find them pretty amazing!
Apparentlly the fruit can replace cocoa in practically all regards. I want to try it now, but curiously it's mostly used for animal feed these days.
Johannesburg (a.k.a. iGoli) is going to be a host city for the 2010 Football World Cup. In advance of the tournament, there is frantic construction across the country - a rash of new stadiums, bigger and better roads, hotels, guest houses, liquor stores, brothels, prisons, etc ;-) The Telkom Tower in Hillbrow has had a giant football grafted to its trunk in advance of the tournament. I had been waiting for this moment for days. I have never seen an almond an the tree. Turns out they look pretty much like the seed itself. Apparently the fruit can be eaten (though it looks like there isn't much to it).
