The Finnish Defense Forces are hosting the CISM 50th WMC Orienteering from 10 to 16 June 2017 in the town and municipality of Hamina.
Approximately 260 military athletes and a hundred team leaders representing up to 30 countries are expected to take part in the competition.

As the premiere sponsor of the art fair, ST Residential hosted an arteaméricas launch event at Infinity, one of their luxury properties in Brickell, and during the art fair created a “home gallery” VIP lounge with food and cocktails for guests to enjoy during this year’s fair.

"Winningen is a local community in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It belongs to the Rhine-Mosel municipality, which has its administrative headquarters in Kobern-Gondorf.
Winningen is located in the landscape protection area “Moselle area from Schweich to Koblenz” on the Lower Moselle between Koblenz-Güls and Kobern-Gondorf on the left side of the Moselle. The nearest cities on the Moselle are Koblenz, about 5 km downstream, and Cochem, about 40 km upstream.
A left tributary of the Moselle is the Weilsbornbach with a length of 1.8 km.
The Distelbergerhof residential area also belongs to Winningen.
Winningen was already settled in Roman times. During the construction of the A 61, the foundations of a villa rustica were discovered near the Moseltal Bridge, today enclosed by the loop of the exit to the Moseltal Ost motorway service area.
Winningen was first mentioned under the name “Uuidinge” in a document from King Ludwig II dated October 20, 871. When King Arnulf donated the “Villa Rübenach” in Mayenfeldgau and its accessories to the Imperial Abbey of St. Maximin on January 23, 888, “Uuindiga” was also counted among them. This document from 888 may be falsified, but even later Winningen was always mentioned among the Maximin estates: “Windingun”, “Windingis”, “Wendenges”, “Wendengias”.
Estates in Winningen (Windinga) were donated to the Kaufungen nunnery by Emperor Henry II in 1016. In 1320 the knight Hermann von Winningen is mentioned. He owned one of the oldest documented vineyard sites, which he received as a fief from Count Wilhelm I von Katzenelnbogen. These were a vineyard in Winningen in the distilling style near the garden of Heinrich Kind von Pfaffendorf, a vineyard on the Wolfspfade and a vineyard on the Gire.
The wine witch fountain, surrounded by a half-timbered ensemble, alludes to the witch hunts in the 17th century. Above the town on the Witches' Hill, the currently oldest known monument from 1925 commemorates the victims of the witch hunts of that time.
Winningen is traditionally a Protestant enclave in a Catholic (formerly Electorate of Trier) surrounding area. Due to the legal succession of the County of Sponheim, dual rule existed in Winningen between Palatinate-Zweibrücken and the Margraviate of Baden until 1776. Since both gentlemen converted to the new faith during the Reformation, Winningen also became Protestant.
From 1776 until it was occupied by French revolutionary troops in 1794, Winningen was part of Baden. After the end of the French era, it belonged to the Prussian Rhine Province." - info from Wikipedia.

The Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Region hosted a public field tour at the Wind River Experimental Forest, located within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington state. This tour highlighted old-growth trees, the unique characteristics of old-growth forests, and information about the Forest Service’s National Old Growth Amendment.
The Wind River Experimental Forest's old-growth stands, primarily composed of Douglas-fir and western hemlock, are living testaments to the ancient and intricate ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest. Some trees here have stood for over 400 years, surrounded by a diverse understory of shrubs like salal and huckleberries, and ground plants such as trillium and beargrass. These forests are vital sanctuaries for wildlife, including the federally threatened Northern spotted owl.
Since the early 1900s, these venerable woods have been pivotal in forest ecology research, guiding sustainable management practices. With over 80% of the region's remaining old growth on federal land, policies like the 1994 Northwest Forest Plan, its upcoming amendment, and the Forest Service’s National Old Growth Amendment underscore the importance of protecting these irreplaceable habitats.
